birthday at the resort question

Hi! I have read that some people have had balloons arrive in their room on their birthday. My son will be turning 8 during our trip in december, and I'm just wondering when do people tell the CM at the resort about a b-day. Do you call months in advance or wait till you check in. I would also like to order a b-day cake for him, but I think that has to be done seperatly, right? I kinow it's only july, but I am constantly doing some sort of planning for this trip!

I think you need at least 24 hour notice to order. Not sure about ballons though. Resorts may or maynot do much (outside of a happy birthday) for a birthday. pretty much depends on the cm you get. Cakes and ballons you have to order and pay for.

When we celebrated my DD's 5th b-day, I just spoke to the CM at check-in. She received a signed card from Mickey and Minnie with a picture of the two of them at MK. She got the card on the second or third night of our trip.
I also ordered a cake, but I did it when I made my ADR's. We had it at Chef Mickey's and it was great! If my computer wasn't so slow, I'd add a photo!

PS Don't forget to ask for the special b-day pins at the parks and to get a special phone call at one of the parks from one of the characters (we had Goofy),and either I or my DD made sure to tell the characters whenever possible that it was her b-day; it made her day to her to have them write "Happy Birthday" in her autograph book!
