How do you feel about birth control for young teens? I'm fifteen, and I had a talk with my mom yesterday about when I should go to the OBGYN, and she told me she'd make me an appointment when my sister goes in May. During the conversation I brought up birth control, I asked her about it and everything. And she told me things I basically already knew, (I was just trying to get her to talk to me about it.) She told me how it regulates your period, which lately mines been crazy bad cramping, and heavy. But good thing is that it usually only last 3-4 days, but those are the worse 4 days of my life it seems. I think that while we was talking about it, she was getting the idea that the reason I wanted it was to 'control birth' so I brought up how I would want it for my period, and not because I'm ready to have sex.. because I'm not. I told her that me and Garrett have talked about it, (im not gonna lie and say we haven't cause it has came up) But we're both fifteen, almost 16, and we're just not ready to commit something that strong in our relationship. So again, how do you feel about teen my age, or a little older using birth control, for the right or wrong reasons?

I'd rather a 15 year old be on birth control than getting pregnant. I am all for birth control for either protecting yourself or regulating yourself. I was on different birth controls for my period when I was 14, so I don't see anything wrong with a 15 year old using it to help her health.

I know that if I was a 15 year old who wanted to be sexually active, I'd want an IUD. I'm always a little leery of 15 year olds being "perfect" with their pill taking (I know I wasn't), so I don't see why they'd even risk it. IUDs are 99.2 percent effective when having sex without a condom. It goes to 99.8 when you do wear a condom. It's the most reliable form of birth control besides abstinence.

I was on the pill to regulate my hormones. My periods were lasting 10-14 days and were really heavy. I also had ovarian cysts. So the doctors put me on birth control but I only stayed on it for a few months. I didnt use it to prevent pregnancy, for one thing I'm not going to have sex before marriage. Thats not really the point though. It worked great for me and even though I'm not on it right now, my periods are only 7-10 days long.

I would much rather a teen be on birth control than be pregnant though.

omg i would die.

they wanted to put me on birth control if my period hadn't started a year after i finished chemo. it started 7 months later thankfully.

i, too, would rather a girl be on bc than pregnant at our age.

I've been on the pill since I was 17, and I know people who have been on it since they were much younger. Some for menstrual reasons, some for sexual reasons. It doesn't really matter the reason if you ask me, because whatever the reason is, it really does help out with menstrual issues.
Since I've been on it, my period has been really regular, i barely ever get cramps and my period usually last 4 days.

I DID screw myself over recently though, I didnt refill my perscription in time so I wound up starting a new pack a week late. I was supposed to get my period last week but I STILL haven't gotten it yet. I know that messing around with your pill definitely messes up your cycle, so I have NO idea when I'm going to get it now. So you have to make sure you stay on top of it.

Sidenote; when I started to take the pill my ****s grew like 2 cup sizes!! (tmi?? lol) and I did gain a bit of weight, but all in all I think being on the pill is definitley a good thing, whether or not you're going to be having sex.
And to be on the pill BEFORE you start having sex would probably be really good, because dealing with condoms and stuff is really awkward to lots of teens, so having back-up is definitely a good idea I think.

My doctors didn't do anything until I went in sobbing. I had had my period for 7 months almost straight (I had 2 weeks relief once during that period).

One cup size for me. And I gained quite a bit of weight too...about 7 pounds I think.

They thought I had appendicitis when my parents took me to the hospital. I had been laying in the middle of my cousins living room curled up in the fetal position crying.
I cant imagine having my period for 7 straight months.

SEVEN MONTHS!!!!!!!!
If i had it for more than a week I would've marched my butt into the drs office and demanded the pill!!!!

Haha, I was 12 when the 7 month ordeal started so they're like, "YOU'RE JUST IRREGULAR, YOU'LL GET OVER IT." They said they'd think about starting me on birth control then, but didn't get around to it until right before I turned 14 and I hadn't had my period for about a year after the 7 months. I was like, "I RAN OUT".

I'm not on BC anymore (it really freaks with the chemicals in my brain...last time I was on it I tried to kill myself quite literally, soo...I'm not allowed to take it, haha), but now I have my period every 2-4 months.

im on it
i dont see a problem with it. i love not having my period every month
i get mine 3-5 times a year! its amazing

I honestly have no problem with birth control. At your age, I'm glad it's just for hormonal/period control reasons. I know girls on the pill who are 14 and are using it as acutal birth control. It saddens me.

I honestly have no problem with birth control at all. My mom, and I have talked about putting me on the pill, because of how irregular my periods are, how long they last for, and how bad my cramps are, not for sexual reasons. My periods are sometimes 2 weeks long, and my cramps are unbearable at times. I have times where I actually get sick, and I cry my eyes out because they're so bad. Then my periods are always skipping around, like one month it'll be on the 3rd, and the next month it's the 31st, and then the month after that I don't have a period, because I technically had one that month. I would really like to go on birth control, because I'm sick of everything. I'm just not looking forward to the gyno appointment, which my mom is suppose to schedule for me for the first time this week. :/ yay for gyno!

They arent too bad. Just relax. Its hard to do, but if you're tense it makes it worse and it takes longer. I've been to the gyno twice, maybe 3 times and it wasnt as bad as I thought it was going to be.

Really? Because my friends keep telling me that there first experience was horrible, and it hurt really bad too. So that just freaks me out even more. lol

Seriously. I've been told that when youre sexually active, it doesn't even phase you because of obvious reasons. I haven't had sex though and it still didn't bother me. and when you're tense, the muscles "down there" tense up too, and that makes it hard for the gyno and she/he has to tell you to relax which is slightly awkward. And its weird when they start feeling your b**bs. But overall its not too scary.

I'm always at the Gyno cuz I get yeast infections like every 3 months. It's not too bad. You just have to relax cuz itll hurt if u do.

Hahah right. lol I'm not sexually active either, so I was thinking that it was going to hurt since...you know. lol Well now that you said that I'm beginning to relax a little bit. I'm just going to be absolutely embarrassed through out the whole entire exam. lol

I would get a female one. Having a guy do it may be awkward. And just keep in mind that they've seen thousands of...you know whats... before. They look at you and it doesnt bother them anymore than it bothers you when you look at someones arm.

Oh yikes, I'm sorry.
I've never had a yeast infection before.

That's so true. I guess I just have to relax. Oh goodness that's gonna be hard for me. lol

in my opinion, i'd wait a little bit. maybe till youre sixteen or seventeen. your body is still trying to regulate itself right now.
