Whatever you decide, since it's "not that serious of a relationship", I think you both should be using protection.

I am honestly surprised that this wasn't brought up earlier.

I am looking for Birth Control that is effective but not something I have to worry about every day. In my 20's, the last time I worried about it, I could not use hormone based options due to the side effects. At 45 I am done having kids but not prepared to have surgical sterilization (tubes tied).

I edited this post & the title due to the way the discussion has gone and because I no longer need/want information specifically about Essure.

I had the copper IUD Paraguard after my second son was born. I was told it lasts 13 years. I had it in for 9 months and surprise! I found out I was pregnant. On the plus side I do have a daughter that I never thought I'd have...

That would be my/our worst nightmare. My partner isn't very trusting of BC because 2 of his 3 sons are here due to it's failure. I am actually surprised he hasn't gotten snipped because he does not want any more children.

Mirena uses the hormone progestin (but no estrogen) but the amount is lower than some other forms of birth control and it is more localized in the uterus.
