We are from Canada.

Do we have to bring our birth certificates if we have a US passport? (SORRY: I MEAN A CANADIAN PASSPORT)

Thanks.

You will be fine with your U.S. Passport ..... Andy

you may want to double check on that one, are you US Citizens living in Canada? Just to be sure, I would check with immigration, didn't know you could be Canadian and have a US Passport?

Please verify this based on your citizenship, as your post is somewhat confusing. IF you are US citizens, you can bring just your US passport. If you are Canadian citizens, you must follow the DCL policies for non-US citizens. This includes a mandatory presentation to US immigration authorities (all members of your party must attend) when the ship comes back into Port Canaveral. I really don't know what documents are required for non-US citizens.

The DCL website says:
All U.S. and Canadian citizens must travel with proof of citizenship, which is a valid passport, original, state-certified birth certificate and picture identification, or a certified naturalization certificate with a picture identification. Acceptable forms of picture identification are state or provincial driver's license, or federal, state, province or local government photo I.D. card. Guests age 17 and under who are U.S. or Canadian citizens are only required to have proof of citizenship, excluding picture identification. These guidelines are based on U.S. government regulations which are subject to change at any time. It is the Guest's responsibility to check with their Travel Agent, government agencies, embassies or consulates prior to their vacation to ensure that they have proper documentation. Any Guest traveling without proper documentation will not be allowed to board the vessel and no refund of cruise fare will be issued.

If you're a Canadian citizen can you just apply for a US passport? I didn't think you could do that.

This is the part that confuses me.

Do I need to bring my Canadian passport AND the birth certificate or just one of them?

You can bring either. If you use your birth certificate as proof of citizenship, then you must also have some kind of government-issued photo ID, such as a driver's license. The passport serves as both.

If you have a passport, I'd go with that. We bring passports as proof of citizenship, and leave them locked in our safe. To get on and off the ship in port, you need a photo ID. We use our driver's licenses for this.

I agree totally with Lloyd. We do exactly what he does--use passport for boarding/check in, and then leave it on board. The passport is both a photo ID and a proof of citizenship (serves both functions). If you use a birth certificate, it is only proof of citizenship, so you need the photo ID also.

We also use driver's license to get on and off the ship (along with KTTW card.)

Hi All! Glad there is a discussion about this! We are traveling on the Wonder in May and since our group is full of Canadian citizens, we have been told to bring our passports with birth certificates as back-up (the passports being used as the picture I.D.) After checking on the Canadian Immigration site, it says that passports are not mandatory, but two pieces of ID are: birth cert and drivers license, are good. But, after talking to many travelers, it was decided that it's just smarter to have the passport anyway! Can't go wrong with too much id!! And the idea of keeping the passport back on the ship is a good one since losing it would be devastating! You can only search for so long, if it's lost (or stolen!!)
Thanks for the discussion! Deb:Pinkbounc

That's why I am confused.

I have no problem bringing a passport. But I have lost my birth certificate. :(

Will the passport be sufficient?

Hi Again! I think you might want to get another birth certificate - it's a hassle, but probably worth having. Since you need two pieces of ID, the passport and the birth certificate will work ALWAYS, but not necessarily the drivers license, so I think it's probably smart to just get it. I know it's a cost, but worth doing - my son lost his so we had to get another and it cost about $15 to have them send it again. OH Well! Hope this helps! Deb:wave2:

I was not born in canada. To get my birth certificate, It would almost be impossible!

Where does it say OTHER THAN THE PASSPORT, WE NEED TWO PIECES OF IDENTIFICATION???

Please!

Hi Again! I guess the rules may be different for you if you don't have a birth certificate for Canada, but I checked out the necessary traveling documents on the "Passport Info - Canada" search and got the canadian passport office. They have info for travel to the US, but you may just want to call the office yourself if the rules are not as easy for you! That way you will get the absolutely right information and be more than safe! Hope this will help you because this trip sounds sooooooo great, you don't need any unnecessary worry! Good luck! I can't imagine a situation where you would need both a passport and a birth certificate. While I don't claim to be a world traveller, I have done a bit of overseas travel. The only thing I've ever used my birth certificate for is to get my passport. I've never, ever brought it with my when leaving the country. A passport has always sufficed.

I'm not Canadian, but do have many, many Canadian friends. None of them that I've asked carry both B/C and passport when travelling between the US and Canada. They either use their passport (most have H1-B visas), or their green card.

You only need two pieces of ID if one of them doesn't have a photo on it (i.e your birth certificate). Your passport doesn't require a second piece of ID.

I would call the cruise line to be sure, but I am just about 100% positive that if you bring your Canadian passport and provincial driver's license or ID, you will have no problems whatsoever. The DL will work to get on and off the ship in port. If you weren't born in Canada, I don't see how your birth certificate would be proof of Canadian citizenship, anyway....
