I was just reading on another board that one needs to bring legal proof of name change if their name is different than what is on their birth certificate. Does that mean I have to bring a copy of my marriage papers too?

I'm thinking not, since I haven't read anything here about this, but thought I'd better ask just in case! I can't believe we're under the 60 day mark!! !:bounce:

Thanks in advance for answering yet another newbie question

Great question - as I had the same one. I got out both papers to take, but is a marriage certificate necessary? I would kind of think so, since on my birth certificate it reads, Mary Jane Smith and my Drivers license read Mary Smith Jones (made up names here). Please advice to a couple of newbie questions.::MickeyMo

I worried about this on my first cruise and brought my marriage lic, no one asked for it or wanted to see it at all. So I would say you don't need it.

I don't really understand what good your BC is if it does not have your "name" on it????????????

Doesn't hurt, just in case, but you will probably not need it.

From what I have read in other locations about DCL (and unfortunately, I can't pinpoint where right now), you are required to bring your marriage license as evidence of the name change. If they don't ask for it, that is great. But, think what a disappointment it would be to get there and be denied boarding because you didn't have it. I would take it just to be safe. As a matter of fact, DW and I are getting passports for our cruise just to avoid any unexpected problems.

Was just on the Wonder on July 18th - July 22nd and they never asked me for a marriage certificate. The birth certificates and i.d. were just fine.

My TA from AAA told me that I would need my marriage certificate also, but when I got to the DCL check-in they never looked at it at all. They said it was not necessary if a name change was simply due to marriage. I guess it's still better to be safe than sorry. If you have it, why not take it along? I had to order a copy of mine from our court house, because I had no idea where mine was. It only cost about $12.00. Hope this helps!!

I went on RCCL last year. My wife just had birth certificate. The agent let her on, but advised that the next time we cruise she should have marriage certificate as well as birth certificate and license. Better to have too much stuff than not enough.

We've never taken marriage papers and never been asked for it.

The only reason I could see that you might need marriage papers is if your madien name is still on your drivers license but you booked under your married name.

Do you need orginal birth/marriage certificates w/seal; or can you bring a copy?

I was on the May 8 cruise. I took my marriage license but I didn't need it. I would suggest you take it just to be safe.

Yes, bc and ml need to have the raised seal. May 03, Carnival required both BC and ML when ID name did not match ID. Even with that my sister's BC was an older copy from before they did the raised seal, the check-in women let her board, but nicely let us know that the BC was not quite proper.

Thanks for the information. We will make sure we bring the original bc & mc's.

You do not need your marriage cert. when cruising with Disney. Your booking name must match your picture ID. They compair your first name and birthdate on your picture Id (drivers licence) with the first name and birth date on the Birth Cert. It's that simple.

Gosh I sure hope they don't ask for my marriage certificate. I burned it after my divorce. LOL

What she said. :D You do not need your marriage certificate, and the birth certificate is an added proof of id/citizenship because the birthdate and first (and probably middle) names on your driver's license would also be on your birth certificate, ex. Mary Jane Smith, dob 1/1/60 on BC would now be Mary Jane Jones (or Mary Smith Jones) dob 1/1/60 on DL.

The only time the MC came up was last year at my airport. I didn't have it and I got scared. So from now on, I'm bringing it. I was able to travel last year but so what. I'm bringing all the ID I can just to be sure.

I was divorced and now remarried so I had 3 different last names. I took cruises for both honeymoos and never had a Marrige Cert until after the cruise.. Was never asked about it either. Also, my name was my maidenname on the cruise, since it was booked in my name at the time of the reservations. To be safe,, I went and got a passport. After 911, its just safer to have a passport. And I was told it took almost 2 hrs to through the Canadian border without one. And, now since I have a different last name from my children,, its just easier.

You sound like my mom!!!

Most birth certificates no longer have raised seals. They are printed off a computer on watermarked paper. Don't fret if your bc doesn't have a raised seal - you can still get on the boat!!!
