The Tula footbeds look just like the Birknstock bed. The soles are very close. The Tulas are made in China. They are very nice for the price...but you can tell if you really look that they are not made with as much care. Glue running over. Now they say leather upper but I think that is the footbed. I bought every style. The ones that are blue & black ... I can not tell if they are leather or not. THey are a little stiff. I hope they break in.
I am a longtime wearer of Birkenstock sandals, so I was eager to compare the Tulas at Payless. The two-strap style is very similar to Birkenstock "Arizona". The footbed, cork and sole seemed quite similar to my Birkenstocks. However, the uppers are not - (much to my disappointment). It seemed to be a thin layer of actual leather suede, bonded to a man-made waffled material that I found quite irritating to my skin. I really tried to talk myself into them, considering the sale price, but finally decided it wouldn't be worth it.
The other style I saw was a single strap slip on, which seemed to be made of leather - but I don't care for that style or the stiff leather. I'm totally addicted to my softer suede.
Today we bought 5 pair of sandals for $60 at Payless - Yippee! I am VERY shoe picky, and always put my kids in stride rites. But the Tulas seemed great and both my kids liked them - size 10.5 for DD and 8.5 for DS. I bought myself a pair and think they feel super. I'm very happy with our purchase, and the ladies at Payless seemed excited they now carried these shoes too!!
I see what you mean, JoannaOhio. My Birki's have a very soft comfy leather strap. The Payless Birk's probably wouldn't be good for me to walk around the parks all day, but they are perfect for going to the market, etc. I love mine so far!
Starting April 15th Payless is having a sale- buy one get one free I was going to buy sandals there last weekend and I asked the clerk if there was a sale coming up soon...
