Last year for the first time ever I had hummingbirds out in my backyard for nearly two months. Well I figured it would never happen again but, just in case, I hung three feeders about an hour ago.

About 10 minutes ago I was out in the yard puttering around and just happened to look up at one of the feeders. I nearly fainted. A beautiful male ruby throated hummingbird was having lunch! :Pinkbounc

He's already been back once and has tried out all the feeders. It is such a wonderful gift to be able to observe this tiny little birds.

They come back to my aunt's every year on the same date. Just like the swallows, or the buzzards. She feeds about 25 of them. Have a good time enjoying them!

Roberta that would be so nice to see!:sunny:

We went out last night and bought a hummingbird feeder and this summer will be our first attempt at attracting them. We've had a Mom and Dad cardinal around our feeders all winter and that was great but I would love to see the hummingbirds.:D

Any good tips on how to attract them?:D

That is so cool. I love watching them but we haven't seen any the last two years. Maybe next year. I still keep putting the feeders out for them.

Last year I thought the reason we finally had some in our yard was because of a plant we had called Bee Balm. They are attracted to certain types of flowers. Here's a site that has just about everything you'd ever want to know.

Of course the Bee Balm isn't blooming yet but maybe they remembered where the food was from last year. The funny thing is we only saw one female last year (or maybe more than one but it was always a female). The visitor that's out there now is a male.

The only other thing I can suggest is to get more than one feeder. I've got three in my yard in various places.

Good luck!
