What is your favorite biodegradable sunscreen? I’m reading that there is a law requiring biodegradable sunscreen (not just reef safe) in Cozumel.

Everything that I have read says that biodegradable and reef-safe are the same thing. Reef-friendly is different though and not necessarily biodegradable. I like the Thinksport Mineral SPF 50+.

EDIT: You need mineral based, ie zinc or titanium oxide. It can’t contain chemicals or PABA. It also should not say “clear”, “nano”, or “micronized”. These have smaller mineral particles that can get into the reefs.

Sun Bum is on sale for Prime Day. They say they are reef friendly and comply with the Hawaii law. I would imagine that is ok?

the original version has all the bad ingredients that aren’t good for reefs.
the mineral version appears to be ok.

you want something that is mineral based with zinc oxide. Those are reef friendly and reef safe.

I second this, I use Think Sport as my daily sunscreen- I am very pale and burn easily, and it has been great for me!

Love Badger sunscreens
I have used those in the past. However, last summer, I couldn’t find the reef-safe version anywhere, just the clear one, which is just reef-friendly. I did find that Thinksport was easier to rub in than Badger.

I bought Goddess Garden Sport mineral sunscreen last year from Amazon for our Western Caribbean cruise.

I have Blue Lizard 50 SPF. I would look for the highest SPF available - I see SunBum comes in 70. SunBum is listed as #3 on GoodHousekeeping’s list for Reef Safe sunscreens.

Remember the old days when life guards had white noses from zinc oxide? That’s the secret. That and titanium dioxide. Apply it and look pale at the beach, but save yourself from skin cancer. (I have a big ugly scar on my back where there used to be a small “mole”.)
