I can't lose weight because I binge eat. My insurance won't pay for a nutritionist, and I don't know how to eat right or stop my binging... any ideas?
I've heard of over eaters anonymous, but never tried it. Dunno if it would help.

Everyone is completely different so here's my thing Nalla.

I don't think you need a nutritionist. I truly believe that we know how to eat right. There are so many books, magazines resources around. However, this is for life. So I have a strong belief that you have to eat foods that you really love - healthy and not. Both and balanced.

As for the binging. Mine simply disappeared when I dealt with personal issues. Ie. As I healed myself mentally it all took care of itself. So I feel strongly that if you deal with the emotions that the binging takes care of itself. Obviously not overnight but it will. And it wasn't easy to look at my issues and heal. But it has changed my life as well. I truly believe that none of us binge without something behind it.

Best of luck to you Nalla,

Lisa

Well said Lisa.

Nalla, there are food tracking sites that many here use, such as sparkpeople.com and fitday.com

These sites, while not exact and labor intensive at first will get you to understand balance.

I like to think of eating as choosing to have a healthy/healthier lifestyle.

Do your best to not thing of the "D" word and look for ways to make you feel in control and successfu--small good choices you can accomplish every day.

I completely agree. I used to be a huge binger. I was already an emotional eater and while it felt good (and tasted good) to fill up on high carb, high sugar food after I felt even worse about myself and physically felt bad too. I finally started dealing with my emotions and learned to use other things to satisfy myself (i.e. long walks without thinking of it as excersize or trying to maintain a certain heart rate or certain amount of time, just going at my own pace and truly enjoying being outside). I decided I DESERVED better and my health and body deserved better then how I was treating it.

After moving away from home to Ohio and having a failed engagement and then moving back home I tried filling up my emptiness inside with lots of food which resulted in a 25 lbs. gain. I have since lost the weight and a little more. I feel so much better about myself, and not just my self esteem. I don't get the headaches and horribly fatigued as I used to when I binged.

Really you have to come to a decision that enough is enough. Setting little goals was my biggest success. 2 lbs. a month at first and when I felt like binging I would binge on something that was relatively healthy (i.e. sugar free jello pudding) and I kept a journal everytime I binged and wrote about how I felt before I binged and after. I would then read those journal entries when I felt like binging in the future. Eventually I stopped looking to food to be my friend and comforter and just used it for what it was, fuel.

Good luck to you. It is a hard road but it is so rewarding when you tackle binging and once you feel the feeling of being released from a food rollercoaster and how great it feels to be healthy again, mentally and physically.
