Can you bike from the main resort at HHI to the beach/pool? Is it an easy trek? We are thinking of bringing our own bikes down and I was just curious.

I keep hearing how everyone else bikes into the HHI DVC resort to use their pool, so it made it sound like you could easily bike around the island.

We have done it many times. ::yes::

My DS6 has been riding to and from the villas and the beach house for 2 summers now. No problems at all. :thumbsup2 Nice paved paths. The route from the resort to the beach goes underneath the main highway.

We also ride around the island. The kids enjoy finding ice cream shops/treat shops to stop at along the way.

I would suggest you bring a cell phone and the number to the resort, just to be on the safe side. One summer, I had bikes that we rented through the resort that had problem after problem. Fortunately, we learned having our cell phone made getting out of trouble a whole lot easier.

Have a great trip -- we'll be there in another couple of weeks. :cool1:

We used to do it all the time, too, and I really enjoyed it; but how "easy" that area under the main highway is depends on whether or not you're a big klutz like me. For me, the path gets kind of narrow and twisty there. One day, right after taking the DVC Tour and hearing about how many "Islanders" think the Disney Tourists are sometimes tacky (at least that's how I interpretted it), DH and I decided to ride our bikes to the Beach House. Under the main road, on that path, I lost control of my bike and ran head first into an oncoming "local" and crashed into the pavement. I was so embarrassed, I immediately jumped up, bleeding from both knees, and apologized. For some reason, DH just doesn't "have time" to rent bikes any more. But it was such a nice ride over there!

Your right, the path does narrow a bit. How scary and embarresing that must have been. I have noticed that they have a mirror to see if there is oncoming traffic or not. Mostly, we have the kids walk through there -- just to be a little safer.

I think I'll share your story with them when they complain about not being able to ride their bikes.
