The search function is not working for me, so sorry if this has been asked before...

I was wondering about the bike rentals on Castaway Cay. Our oldest will be almost 7 next year when we go, but I don't think she will be riding a bike without training wheels by then--my youngest definitely will not. What are our options for doing the bike ride together as a family? I would think our oldest would be too old for a child seat on the back of a bike.

It has been a few years since we did the family bike ride. They did not have any with training wheels from what I saw (someone will hopefully correct me if I am wrong). There were somebikes with the child carriers. The ride is along the island and goes behind the adult beach to a secluded spot on the island where it turns around. If she is not really steady on a bike you might want to try other things. Our kids loved the family beach and the kids clubs on the island are pretty fun for the younger crowd.

Over the past 4 years they have had bikes with training wheels - no worries there!

Last year, however, my DD grabbed a bike withOUT training wheels and promptly told me that she was ready to ride. It took a few stumbles but she got it and can now proudly say she learned to ride a two-wheeler on Castaway Cay!

I'm so glad to hear that they have bikes with training wheels. She may get the hang of it this summer, but you never know--she can be timid about things like bike riding--that would be a great excursion for our family at Castaway Cay.

Yes, they have bikes of every size, including ones with training wheels and "child seats".

The bike path is pretty smooth, but most of it is dirt/sand except for the "runway" area. There are many drinking water stations along the way ... your kids will likely stop at every one ... thirsty or not ... which led me to believe there were too many drinking stations. :rolleyes1

There are actually two bike trails, one off to the right as you travel down the "runway" (that is the new one), and one at the end of the runway down near the serenity bay area.

Thanks for the extra info about the bikes--that is too funny about stopping at every water area--I guess it's good that kids like to keep hydrated :rolleyes1

About how long does riding the path take? We would probably have our oldest ride her own bike with training wheels (if still necessary) and put our other dd in a child seat with my husband. We love to ride bikes so this would be fun for us.

We've rented the bikes twice. I think the rental is set for 1 hour, and that's just about the amount of time you'll need. Any more than that would have been too much. It gets warm out there. We rode out to the observation tower which was neat to see how far from the ship you really are.

From your ticker I see you have 13 more months, that's plenty of time to work on riding a two-wheeler!

Here are some pictures of our bike ride:

Thanks for the photos--they were great. My youngest has the very same bathing suit as your daughter at the tower :)

Yes, 13 months should be plenty of time to master the two-wheeler, but just in case....I'm so glad that they have training wheel options.

I had no idea you actually got that far away from the ship on CC.

That's funny about the bathing suit! gotta love disneyshopping.com! I also bought the matching "scuba" type suit that goes with it. worked great in the chilly water at CC! My older daughter has the Ariel set

Sorry, I know this is OT! but we really got such use out of these sets, I thought I'd share!

Just a heads up, we cruised in July and it was WAY too hot (IMHO) to think of biking...
Barb

You're right, it could be too hot down there to bike and it might be in early May next year when we go...but if it's not, we'll give it a try.
