We are planning to bring bikes with us on our trip this spring. My question is this, if we ride our bikes to the boat dock are there places to lock up our bikes? I'm just wondering if there are racks available at many of the fort destinations. Thanks!

Yes, there are racks on the left and right of the path leading to the docks just as you enter the beach.

Oh yeah,
:welcome:

I'd love to bring bikes, but the DW doesn't have one nor does she ride one. My Oldest DD doesn't like them (too much like exercise) and my youngest DD is still not to confident in them. Me, I love to ride my bike for entertainment AND exercise. The DW did indicate that she might ride if it was one of those 3 wheelers with a nice cushy seat.

Yes, there are bike racks everywhere, the Trading Posts, pool, bike barn, marina, bus depot & Trails End.

:flower:It was so much fun to ride our bikes there! Riding over to Wilderness Lodge so enjoyable also. Places to lock them up everywhere and with the size of the resort a must have IMO. Enjoyed riding our bikes around as much as anything we did at WDW.

Completely agree, tinkerdorabelle! We did the same and biked to the Lodge and it was so fun, surely a highlight.

That's one of our favorite things to do at the fort...we weren't super big bike riders until after our first trip to FW and then when we went home we started riding our bikes more. I forgot how much fun it is to zoom around like a kid.

My wife has one of those adult tryke or granny cycle as i call it. The biggest problem for me is that even though she bought a folding compactable model from Camping world you can't find a rack that will accept or carry it. We lose 1/3 of the pass thru storage to transport it

We love riding bikes for transportation at the Fort. Don't forget a headlight and taillight for each bike (cheap at Wally World). As others have mentioned, plenty of places to lock your bikes up all over the Fort. One thing that bikes have over golf carts is the ability to split up, even on the fly. Somebody wants to stop at the arcade, another wants to stop at the gift shop, and somebody else just heads back to walk the dogs - no whining about everybody always having to go together everywhere....plus they're always charged ;)

Oh, you may also want to pack a backpack or milk crate or basket attachment for your bike so you can tote towels to the pool, whatever purchases from the gift shops, fishing tackle, etc!

Riding a bike at The Fort????? Oh the horrors!!!! That's almost as bad as cooking at your site making you feel like you are actually camping. Might also bring back some fond childhood memories, AND, riding a bike does require some physical exertion that results in exercise causing that terrible side benefit to the body of making one a little bit healthier compared to riding a golf cart all over the place.

I cringe every time I hop on one of my bikes, like yesterday as I headed out for a 57 mile jaunt. Dang-it, if I didn't have to get back home to continue painting my house I might have seen another Bald Eagle.

Got to get back to The Fort where I don't have to worry about house painting interrupting my biking. One of the best things about The Fort is being able to ride without cars passing at 50mph, being able to loop, riding to WL seeing the deer along the way.

Pedal, Forest, Pedal!!!!! :)

Do they rent bikes for kids with training wheels?

I don't specifically remember seeing bikes that had the training wheels on them, but I have to admit I wasn't specifically looking for it either. I do remember reading on The Mouse For Less website somewhere that some of the bikes rented by Disney do have training wheels. It didn't say that all the rental locations had them as there are other places besides the Fort that rent bikes (Wilderness Lodge, Boardwalk, etc).

I would advise calling the front desk of the Fort (407)-824-2900 and see if you can't get the word straight from the horse's mouth unless someone else here has better information. If you do call, chime back in and let us know.

That's a very good question by the way.

Thanks!! It's a long trip down and Id rather not bring our bikes if we don't have too.

I have rented bikes with training wheels at the Fort. Be aware that you have to return the bikes each evening around 5 or 6 - no length of stay rentals - so they don't help with getting around to the campfire, sing along or other evening activities.

Somewhat late reply, but we always bring our bikes. My only suggestion is don't bring something you can't stand to get scratched, banged around a bit or wet. On many occasions we've come back from where we've gone for the day to find our bikes were not exactly where we left them positioned and usually have a bunch of others crammed around or against them. Then of course it rained right there over them, but not wherever we might have gone for the day. :p
