It has been years since I've been and never to Disney's resort. Someone told my DH that everyone gets around by bikes. How far out is Disney from anything? Do they rent out bikes? Are there pathways for bikes?

Anyone know if my DD can take her electric scooter, or no?

Thanks so much!

There are paved paths all over Hilton Head. They are smooth and an easy ride. Our DS has been doing the trip from the Disney resort to the Beach House since he was 3 without any problem. Before that, we rented a bike with the trailer child carrier in the back, which was great for not only DS, but all the extras we took to the beach. :beach:

We have usually rented directly through the resort with the length of stay package. If memory serves me correct, it's $50 for the first two bikes and $10 for each additional bike. If you check in on a Sunday later afternoon, there is a chance that Disney will be out of bikes for the week. This happened to us last year but Disney gave us a phone number to a rental place who dropped off the bikes for us at our door. They were a little more expensive than Disney but the bikes were nicer than the ones Disney was renting.

From experience, we always carry our cell phone just in case. We've taken the ride to the beach, we've rode to Cold Stone Creamery, Piggly Wiggly. It's fun to travel around and do something a little different than we would at home. All rentals come with locks and there are bike racks all over the place.

Have fun!

Great, thanks!

We're arriving Sunday and leaving Wednesday morning. I wonder how we should go about renting bikes. I think we can fit my girls' bikes in my car, but we'd have to rent for myself and DH.

So a 6 year old should have no problem riding a bike from the resort to the beach house? Do you feel it is safe or is there alot of traffic?

Also, do you know about my oldest's electric scooter? Can this be used there if she is riding along side us?

Thanks so much!

We rented bikes from another company when we were there for Thanksgiving week last year. Disney was out of bikes for the week, and this company was cheaper anyway. They also delivered the bikes and picked them up. The name of the company was in a brochure that they gave us at check in. Most of bikes are the Island Cruisers that only have one speed. We were told the Beach House was about 1 1/2 miles away from the resort. We took the shuttle over one day, but stayed after the shuttle had quit running for the day, so we walked back. It wasn't a bad walk at all. I don't believe they allow electric/motorized vehicles on the bike paths unless it is a disability requirement. The paths are for bikes and walkers/runners. We loved biking around the island. We have biked from one end to the other and back one year on our trip. You can stop along the way and visit some of the shops or find a neat little place for lunch. Also the small mall is within biking distance from the resort along with several grocery stores.

Hope you enjoy HH. We love it there. Wish I could afford an add-on.

Warmer in Illinois and getting warmer everyday. Go away SNOW!!!!

Were you able to rent the bike with child trailer from Disney or was it another company? We are taking our first HHI trip this summer and our youngest will need the trailer if we rent bikes. Thanks! :)

Our DS who is now 7 has been doing it for several years without a problem. However, the path to the beach does travel along the main road into Palmetto Dunes. Our DS had a choice, he either stayed inside of the line or he didn't ride. As riding his bike has always been his passion and something that he wanted to do very early, he didn't have a problem listening and following the guidelines we set for him. If he did, he wouldn't have been riding. Parents are the best just of their children's capability. Other than the main road to the Beach House, the rest of the paths are mostly away from the traffic, including an underpass crossing under the main road through town.

We rented it directly through Disney. In fact, we liked the style that Disney had over some of the other rental companies. We haven't used a trailer in several years (probably 4 now) so I'm sure there have been changes as well.

Also, the tag-along model bikes are very popular and available for rent also. These are for the kids who may be too big for a bike with training wheels but not quite ready for a bike on their own.

Does Disney rent those?

What is the biggest a kid can be to ride in those trailers?

I called HH today to ask about the pools (I had heard they were being worked on. I was told resort pool is now open and beach pool should be in about a week.)

I also asked the recreation guy about the electric scooter around the Island and he told me no problem... We'll see!
