Marathon day at MK - there for rope drop, left at 11PM (came back to camper for quick nap). My bike was stolen or "borrowed" from the marina sometime between 4pm and 11pm. Walked back to the camper (thank goodness we are relatively close to the marina). DH is dealing with security but I am sure nothing can be done.
Oh well - they have have stolen my bike but they cannot steal my MAGIC!

Man that sucks. I hope they find it for you and get the person who took it.

I saw a paper stuck to the posts at the bus stop one time, with a bike reward. It's really sad when people can be so mean. I hope they just took the bike out of mistake and will return yours.

A couple years back, i had a few things in the truck bed when we checked into the campsite. It was early so I didn't think they'd have it ready, but they did. Well we were running late to our ressie at Canada, and took the tent and fishing poles out of the truck. (we live close by) So after lunch we went home to gather the rest of our camping stuff. When we returned to the campsite, the polls and tent were gone. We called security and had the GM come out and everything, and they wouldn't do a thing for us. Even got a letter a couple weeks later saying "sorry, it's not our fault".
It was a brand new tent too, I was really looking forward to setting it up. Instead I got to be setting up our old tent in the dark. It wasn't a lot of money, I got it on clearance for like 40 bucks, but still.

I'm so sorry for your experience.

We actually had someone try to help themselves to our golf cart one time. It was a customized cart and looked nothing like a Disney cart. We were parked up at Pioneer Hall, and some friends of ours saw this couple walk up to our cart & sit in it. Then these people started trying to push it out of the GC parking area. The "thieves" were in their late 30's - early 40's - not kids. Our friend went over and confronted these people who told our friend that they couldn't find their key (they were obviously drunk). Our friend told them he would be glad to go into T.E. and get someone to help them. Then the "oh no, you don't need to do that" excuses began. Our friend let them go on for a bit and finally told them that his wife was getting a security person to talk to them about stealing the cart - that he was good friends with the people that actually owned the cart. This couple booked it out of there so fast that they left a trail of dust. They headed to the marina and hopped a resort launch. The "thieves" wouldn't have gotten too far because DH had installed a motor cut off switch in the trunk, and the trunk was locked. Thankfully, no damage was done, but I often think about what would have happened if our friends hadn't been enjoying a cup of coffee on the front porch at that particular time.

We always lock our bikes up when we leave them. Ask Denny about his granddaughters bike disappearing over the 4th of July weekend.

I hope your bike turns up unharmed, and I'm glad you're not letting this steal your magic!

Sorry to hear about your bike :sad2:

Maybe some kids ran off with it and security will find it.

Ron.

Time and again I have advised people to lock their bikes, in part because I witnessed somebody try to steal mine and it was locked, which was the only reason they left it alone. Every time I mention locking it up, it seems the FW cheerleaders come out of the woodwork and say how they have never had a problem and FW is so safe and the Disney magic wouldn't let anybody do anything bad.

Mine was stolen too over Spring Break 2007-we got off the bus from MGM (now Hollywood Studios) and it was gone. It was also a long walk back to the now Full Hook up sites from Pioneer Hall. Security said it was probably some kids who didn't want to walk back to their site. they will probably find it pitched into the creek. NICE!-not! That doesn't help me now does it.
We NOW lock our bikes. Lesson learned.:thumbsup2
Sorry to hear about your bike...you're not alone.

Wow - We will definately be locking our bikes up but it does make me wonder about the saftey of our camping gear and tents at the site. Great - More to worry about.

I agree with ftwildernessguy, our locks are like AMEX cards, we never leave home without them (we also use them too)

Sorry to hear about your bike. :sad1:

So here is a question for the bike crowd. When my wife and I go next year we were planning on using our bikes to get from place to place. The question is will theives try to take parts off the bikes? they are mountain bikes, mine is $2300 and her's is $600. I plan to lock them up, but wheels and things could still be unbolted and taken off. :scared1:

Dan

IMHO, I would bring a good (Kryponite) cable lock and run it through the wheels and frame. They make a nice one the coils up and clips to the back of the seat for storage and transportation.

There's no way I'd have that expensive a bike at the fort. I would borrow some older bikes before I'd leave them even locked up. That's the kind of bike that is only outside when your butt is on the seat lol.

I have to agree with Donnie. I have a very expensive bike as well that I NEVER take camping. Right now, our camping is done in FL where I use an old beach cruiser and my kids use their own bikes. All 3 of these bikes can easily be replaced at Wal-Mart for $200, but we still lock them up when we are going to be away from them.

I don't leave the bikes locked at the campsite, but they do get locked up at any of the main places, like the bus stop, marina, and meadow.
If you leave your bike unlocked, some one can just hop on it, and no one would think twice about it. If they try stealing parts off of it, I think it would raise some eyebrows with passer-by's that they would at least tell some one working at the fort.

My only explanation for my tent getting stolen, was it was still in the bag/box, it was before 11am, and some one felt that we had already checked out and just left it behind. Hello people, it wasn't even out of the sealed box we bought it in.

Sorry to hear about your bike OP.

And I think I'll have DH look into a motor cut-off switch for our cart.

We always locks our bikes especially when at the marina or at the stores. I would suspect alot of times it's just kids joy riding but that still doesn't help me if they are taken. This trip we have even started locking them up at the campsite. Just because it's Disney, doesn't mean you shouldn't take precautions.

I always felt like my stuff was safe at my site and my bike at the marina ,sometimes DH and the kids go to the park before me and I used to just put mybike next to thier locked up bikes rather than messing with the lock but last year 3 times just in the time I was catching the boat or returning security was there over stolen bikes -
So it must be very common now - so sad

We will hunt them down and drag them behind my cart full speed up and down the main road:rotfl:
