Bike in June $60

Visiting FW in June, tent camping, via airplane, w/6 kids. We're considering ordering a cheapo $70 dollar mountain bike from Walmart.com, delivered to FW for our stay. At the end, would like to sell bike to next camper as it won't be worth mailing home. In 2 days, this would pay for itself vs. FW rental. Anyone interested, or have suggestions.

We will be there for 2wks (ie. sore feet) and figure a bike will be invaluable for quick trips to the store, etc.

I would just use the bus for transportation if you needed to go to the store, etc. I'm not even sure if FW would accept a package if you had it shipped from Walmart (do they even ship bikes?). And what if you can't find someone who wants to buy it from you when you are ready to leave?

You would have to put the bike together if you order it from Walmart. That is a whole lot of trouble. Considering renting a bike or a golf cart.

We have never shipped anything to FW so I can't help you there...but we did order our "cheap" bikes from Wal-mart and had to assemble them. Two were defective but were easily returned to our local store for replacements. For that reason, I would advise against it.

I agree with pamom65, the bus system is probably your best bet.

At someone's suggestion here, I called and asked if I could ups my camping gear. They said yes, so why not a bike? I think it sounds great. And if you don't make prior plans with anyone, you could just offer it to someone setting up as you tear down. Assuming it is much cheaper than renting a bike the whole tine, I'd just eat the cost though. Just imagine coming back in a year and still seeing it in circulation.
