Biggest Loser "Sizzlin' Hot" Summer Challenge

Thanks!
I looked them up on line, they were put out by Special K if those are the right ones. Amazon had them for $9 each, I might look at them and order a couple. They look pretty good, and I can fit in 10 minutes here and there!
I've been eyeing my old video, 20 Minute Workout. I guess men really like it too :lmao:, but it was a quick decent workout. Cut out the jumping they do, another quick workout.

Carol

I looked those up for fun, and sorry, but those are not the right ones. Mine are more like $10.50 on Amazon. But I don't buy videos from there, I buy them from collagevideo.com Can watch decent length clips plus if I don't like the video I can send it back for a return, even opened.

These are mine. Prices aren't bad here either.

Hola friends! Sorry to be so MIA! After returning from our extended vacation, DH had day surgery on Thurs. to correct a problem with his eyes that is a result of his auto immune disease. So needless to say I've been a busy bee.

Hit the scale Friday morning to face the bad news post-vacation, but I'll honestly say it wasn't nearly as bad as I anticipated. I definitely over-ate on vacation and didn't always make the best choices, but I didn't go insane. And I tried to keep up some amount of exercise, although some days it was easier than others. I think with some effort I can be back within my maintenance range within 2 weeks and back to where I was prevacation within 3 weeks. Sounds like a long time, but I just don't lose like I did when I was younger and heavier.

Hoping that everyone here is doing well. I've missed you all, but needed to take time for myself (vacation), family (DMIL's 90th b.day), and nursing DH. Something had to give so it was my DIS time. But I am off to answer a few QOTD that I missed! ..............P

I was talking about somehow getting motivation and what gets me going in my last post.

Saturday QOTD: What motivates you more to stay OP and work harder: seeing pictures of yourself when you were heavier, or seeing a picture of someone closer to your goal weight?

Definitely my "before" picture! It almost make me physically ill just to look at it. I actually feel sorry for "that" me. So miserable in my own skin....always trying to hide the fat (didn't really work), hating every photo. Even some of my "during" pictures aren't great. I remember feeling thin, but it is all relative I suppose.

Good Thursday morning

Final day teaching today. Then I have to start getting ready for my trip next week.

I have been moving pretty slow this morning so I have to get moving.

With all the talk about school starting up I have this question?

Have you ever been to DW or DL for a special holiday?

.

My very first trip to WDW was the first week of December in 1974. The Christmas decorations were amazing! I'd love to visit again at that time, but DH's job doesn't allow any vacations between T.giving and Christmas.

We were in DL the week leading up to the big 50th anniversary in July of 2005 and the parks were just beautiful! Lots of gorgeous plants, flowers, etc.

We went in 2007 at the begining of Dec and stayed at the WL....OMG it was amazing!!
WE are trying to figure out a way to swing a trip in Oct to see the Halloween decoration (pray, pray)

Well hello gang....things have been crazy as usual around here. I have been so tired mentally and physically and can't seek to get into a good routine.
Am really struggling this week as both kids have started "hell week" which means 2 practices a day which means high carb diet in this house to keep them fueled :( Any good suggestions as to how to manage meals without having to cood 2 seperate things??
Anyone have good healthy carb suggestions?? Neither of them will eat breakfast in the morning before the first practice (1. because they don't get up soon enought, 2. because it seems to be heavy on their stomach during practice)....any good suggestions???

a month away from trip to Disneyland....bitter sweat as it will be with co-workers and not family. Would really like to drop 5-10 but if I can't get a grip that is just not going to happen :( it has been so long since I have had some real exercise...i don't think i could run to the end of the driveway at this point!!

Working from home today but am going to avoid as much work as possible and try to get some work done around the house....just really feel like a need some time off to get everything and everyone in order!!!!

Going to spend some time catching up on you all now!!

My suggestion for pre-practice food for your kids is low fat chocolate milk. Lots of trainers suggest it for post workout recovery. If it were made with low fat or skim milk (or soy/rice/almond milk), limited chocolate syrup (Hershey has a dark chocolate syrup), and maybe some nonfat plain Greek yogurt or a bit of protein powder, it might be a good, easy-to-digest choice.

DS isn't big on breakfast (or on fruit), but I can usually get him to finish a shake made with low fat milk, a squirt of dark chocolate syrup, Juice Plus chocolate drink powder, nonfat Greek yogurt, and a frozen banana. That is plenty of breakfast, even for a growing boy. he gets a few dairy servings plus 2 servings of fruit and a bit of extra!

Hi! My name is Carol and I’m your coach for this week. Thanks Dona for coaching last week. I just turned 54 today, have been married to my DH for almost 32 years and our DS is 16…a miracle after many years of hoping and prayers:angel:, and growing into a wonderful young man.

I was able to eat anything I wanted when I was growing up. I had trouble gaining weight – a friend and I even had a competition to see who could reach a certain weight first! DM was the daughter of farmers – lots of meat and potatoes and breads, home-made cookies and sweets. I never learned or needed to watch my weight or how to choose wisely. At 18 I got a desk job:surfweb:, and started gaining weight, and losing, and gaining again. At college and while teaching I was moving all the time and my weight stabilized, but then went into accounting and sat down at a desk again – and began the cycle again, including a stint with WW meetings. After our first trip to Disney in 2006 I finally dieted with a vengeance (WW online), and lost 55 lbs. I have since gained about 25 back, lost 10 since then. I have not been as successful as I would like this last challenge (work has been getting very busy, wearing me down), but determined to get back to 160 before visiting Disney again in November:yay:.
I have borrowed my questions shamelessly from the previous challenge, since I had trouble coming up with anything myself :bitelip:!

Friday QOTD: For the past two weeks, we have been watching the world’s greatest athletes compete. Have you been watching, and if you do, what is your favorite sport to watch? And do they inspire you in your journey?
!

Of course, as expected, we watch swimming! MP was off to a bad start, but thankfully pulled it together and won gold for DD on her 17th birthday!:thumbsup2

For us the Olympics were pretty much over when the swimming ended, but being home post surgery with DH, we've watched a few other bits, including rhythmic gymnastics.

As wonderful and talented all of the athletes are, I don't feel any inspiration from them. Iam more inspired by the weight loss success stories I read in WW magazine.

Healthy Habits Week 11: A "Thoughtful" Pamper Week

For some reason, I have Pooh on my mind. :confused3 There are no points to submit for Week 11.

1. Think about your weight loss/maintenance journey. What is holding you back? What goals have you achieved? Where do you want to go next? Write down your goals. It's a great motivator!

2. Finish the sentence "I am happiest when..." and do something that makes you happy.

3. Spend some time in the 100 Acre Wood...or really, experience nature. Listen to the birds chirping or feel the wind on your skin.

4. Artificial sweeteners get a good rap and a bad rap. Honey is usually considered a good sweetener. Experiment with using honey.

5. Dare I suggest this? Be lazy for a few minutes. (I'm thinking Eeyore here.)

6. Hop like Roo! No matter how much pampering you do, stick to your exercise plan. You'll be glad you did!

Wonderful HH! So thought inspiring! Thanks CC!

I am all about the VIllians. I have a Villian poster in my classroom. ONe class asked why did I have the villians. I told them that they are the ones I enjoy the most. One student's reply was "Mrs. Coffey I never knew you had a dark side."

Who is you favorite villian?
y.

Off the top of my head I have to say Queen of Hearts. I'm not big into the villains, but I've had my photo taken with Hera few times and they are fun photos.

Qotd

Favorite Villains are Evil Queen and Hook. We get great reaction from both. DH always screams she's the fairest of them all and we get great shots.
Then during Spectro we crow like Peter and yell Hook is a Codfish!! Great reactions from both characters.

NSV for the day!!!!
DH had bought me a Claddhagh ring for me when we first started dating. I haven't been able to wear it in well over a year. I tried it on today and while it's a little snug it fit!! YAY!!!! The other ring I had been wearing was starting to spin and I was afraid I'd lose it, so I'm thrilled with snug!!

Yeah on the ring!:dance3:

This is the pool at AKL(sorry it is so small). I know that weather plays a big part of our exercise programs. If you could have the perfect weather and equipment what would like to do all year long?

Walk with a friend that I could chat with. When I walked with a friend in the past we could talk away an hour easily!

Don't you just hate it when you are out somewhere, and there are really no healthy eating options? I ran into that today. We went to Old Sturbridge Villiage for a Revolutionary War reenactment and had lunch but there were not many options for something healthy. I did not realize I COULD bring my own food in, so of course didn't even think to pack a lunch. I ended up with a turkey sandwhich and an apple which wasnt the worst choice but it was A LOT of bread!

The reenactment itself was very cool and I had a great day. Very educational and really a great experience. Best of all I got in for free!! The reenactment was free with admission into the villiage but it's 25 bucks to get into the villiage. One of the perks of working in a museum is I can get into many museums for free and this counted! For those who don't know Old Sturbridge Villiage is a villiage set in 1839...kind of like colonial williamsburg but smaller. It's a really neat place, I LOVED going there as a kid. If you are in the new engliand area and are ever looking for a day trip and have younger kids interested in this type of thing (history and such) I highly recommend it.

I did a lot of walking today too (war's are exhausting!) and it was HOT so I drank a ton of water!

All in all i'm really glad i went, I was debating because I was going with people from history club that i really didn't know that well, and i'm shy by nature (shocking considering every job i've ever had has involved public speaking) but I had a really good time.

I slacked on homework when I got home aka I didnt do any. So I have to do it tomorrow. last week of class, can't wait till it's over.

I grew up inSturbridge so I have a special love for OSV. Glad you enjoyed it! I try to get there at least once a year with the kids, but it can be pricey.

This is a picture from my favorite evening show at DW. I saw it for the first time either in 1978 or 1982 and have loved it since I saw it. DS went to DW 2 years ago and got it on video for me. I can't believe it still playing and I get to see it in a couple of weeks.

What is your favorite evening show?

y.

My favorite is either Wishes or SpectroMagic parade...hard to decide. I'm not a big fan of Fantasmic, but it is DS's favorite. And we never really got into Illuminations...not sure why.

Here we celebrate our progress and recognize our superstars.

Biggest Loser "Sizzlin' Hot" Summer Challenge Week 9!
This week’s group loss = 30.0 pounds!
Average percentage of weight lost 0.64 %
Total group weight loss so far 241.0 pounds!

AWESOME!

Retention Rate (compared to the 58 participants we had sign up for our start week on June 1st)
47% (this includes the Losers, Maintainers and Excused people!). Let's keep sending those weights people!

Before the weekly superstar list comes the disclaimer. I am human and I make mistakes. If you have any questions please contact me. For your reference this is the magic percentage of weight lost formula - weight loss for the week divided by weight for last week times 100, that gives us the percentage. Now let me test that with my numbers for week 1, click, click, click goes the calculator. Yes, that agrees with the percentage on the magic spreadsheet. (btw if its been more than 1 week between weigh-ins, then the % loss is divided by the number of weeks, to keep everybody on the same basis)

Now let's get to the good stuff. Who were our superstars of week 9?

The WISH Biggest Loser "Sizzlin' Hot" Summer 2012 Challenge Week 9 Superstars!!

Thanks to ohMom-Molli for these clippies. They were used for a previous BL but we can recycle. Don't they look great!

Great job everyone! Especially good job considering how far into the challenge we are!

I have potentially great and life changing news to share. Maybe it won't seem like a big deal to anyone who isn't me, but to me it's AMAZING news. I have finally talked to my mom and dad and we have decided together that quitting Petsmart is the best thing for me at this moment in time. Basically right now I'm getting about 4 hours a week there, and in the Fall i will only be able to work one day a week, and out new manager is crazy, things are not going well. This has been something that's a long time coming but I have to say it feels so right. I am going to see if I can work just holidays and school breaks, but knowing my manager she will not like that idea, and if she says no I will give her my two weeks.

I'm like nervous and ecstatic all at the same time. It feels like I'm ending a chapter of my life and starting a new one...just...wow. I don't know when I'll be able to finalize it, probably not till Wednesday or Thursday but it's happening!

Good for you!

Have you ever done a special tour while in Disney?

This is a picture of my segway tour we took a few years ago. I am the one in the middle in the blue t-shirt. My sons are to the right and left of me. My twin sister is on the left in the white shirt. This tour consisted of all my family and my sister's family and ds' gf. My dh hated the feel of the segway and opted out of the tour after the first 25 minutes (they alllow this before you get out of the building.) My sons had a blast. I liked going into to WS when no one else was there. We also got back into FW when there were people there. We were treated as our own parade. It was a lot of fun. My dh got to watch us through the binoculars on the other side of the lake. He met us as we came into England and walked with us back to Innoventions.

DH also has done KTTK with my bil.

Have a happy and healthy day.

I've never done a special tour at Disney, but DS and I did a Segway tour last year here in NH and LOVED it ! Hoping to do another Segway tour somewhere this year!

I've always wanted to do a segway tour, looks like a blast!! So cool!:cool1: Alas, no special tours here...but one year the parks were DEAD (we were the first people to board a flight to Orlando after 9/11...very strange, only 8 people on our normally full plane!! We were originally scheduled to be on the flight on 9/12...) and they allowed us to ride Splash Mountain about 10+ times without getting off! That was a really cool 'tour' :)

Wow! We went to WDW for our first family trip in the January following 9/11 and things were still dead! We were NOT complaining! There will never be another time like that, ever, I'm sure!

This is a picture of my friend's first pillowcase day. We make pillowcases for kids with cancer. They are given out to local hospitals and some hospitals in NY and Philla.

Do you have a favorite group that you like to work with?

I do like to work with this pillowcase group but have worked with Boy SCouts and the local high school band. I also love to work with the local high school theater group and have gotten done a little work with a community group near by.

Have a happy and healthy day.

Over the past few years I coached my son's FLL robotics team (5years), directed VBS at our previous church twice, I participated on and captained a Relay for Life team for the past 10 years (until this year), and of course I work with/for DD's swim team on a regular basis....but that's it for now.

Thanks for the link. I bookmarked those and will take a look later on tonight. I can fit in 10 minutes here, 10 minutes there on crazy days; on my better days I can combine it with the Wii when I am inside.

Hola friends! Sorry to be so MIA! After returning from our extended vacation, DH had day surgery on Thurs. to correct a problem with his eyes that is a result of his auto immune disease. So needless to say I've been a busy bee.

Sounds like your DH is recovering well. Glad you had a good result even with your vacation. I gained a little weight this week, but back to where I started the week with, so I guess I sort of maintained.

I did lose easier when I was younger, but I was always more active then. If I was OP, I also lost easier when I was heavier. It got harder and slower the more I lost. I got within 7 pounds of my ultimate goal and then stopped watching it for awhile...:guilty:

Definitely my "before" picture! It almost make me physically ill just to look at it. I actually feel sorry for "that" me. So miserable in my own skin....always trying to hide the fat (didn't really work), hating every photo. Even some of my "during" pictures aren't great. I remember feeling thin, but it is all relative I suppose.

I'm with you - I hate looking at those pictures of myself. Very few pictures as well, I was always avoiding the camera or standing behind someone else so you could just see my face. The differences now are stunning (altho I have never been photogenic), and I still have aways to go! That is what I try to envision...altho feeling physically ill might go aways into making me less hungry.;)

My very first trip to WDW was the first week of December in 1974. The Christmas decorations were amazing! I'd love to visit again at that time, but DH's job doesn't allow any vacations between T.giving and Christmas.

You could probably try right after Christmas - New Years. I heard the crowds go away and you have a few days before they start turning it around. I think they are up for aways before Thanksgiving. We have gone for the MNSSHP on Halloween itself, and by the time we leave half of the Christmas decorations are up. This year is the first week in November, we will miss the castle lighting by a few days! But we are working around DH's school schedule, so probably won't see the decorations until he goes to college and we can take trips whenever.

We were in DL the week leading up to the big 50th anniversary in July of 2005 and the parks were just beautiful! Lots of gorgeous plants, flowers, etc.

My suggestion for pre-practice food for your kids is low fat chocolate milk. Lots of trainers suggest it for post workout recovery. For us the Olympics were pretty much over when the swimming ended, but being home post surgery with DH, we've watched a few other bits, including rhythmic gymnastics.

I really enjoyed the swimming and diving, and the open water swimming today was amazing (kind of slow, but the fact that they are doing that) swimming for so long, I can't imagine it. My arms would be tired within a few minutes (which just goes to show how out of shape I am). Altho I'm sure with your DD it would be a different story!! I was glad he (MP) got it back together. What a birthday present for your DD!

Watched the rhythmic gynastics the last couple of days. I can't take my eyes off the ribbon ones.

As wonderful and talented all of the athletes are, I don't feel any inspiration from them. Iam more inspired by the weight loss success stories I read in WW magazine.

Wonderful HH! So thought inspiring! Thanks CC!

Off the top of my head I have to say Queen of Hearts. I'm not big into the villains, but I've had my photo taken with Hera few times and they are fun photos.

Yeah on the ring!:dance3:

Walk with a friend that I could chat with. When I walked with a friend in the past we could talk away an hour easily!

That is not a bad idea. Next time I get together with my friend we could go for a walk while we talk. Although very often we need to spread out our paperwork when we are planning Disney, but I think I will mention it to her!

I grew up inSturbridge so I have a special love for OSV. Glad you enjoyed it! I try to get there at least once a year with the kids, but it can be pricey.

With Fantasmic, once was enough. Really like Illuminations for a couple times, but not so much now. Not even planning to see it this time, but we do want to see Wishes. No Spectro yet:sad2:, but I have heard rumors they are starting to dust off the floats.

Great job everyone! Especially good job considering how far into the challenge we are!

OK, I was on page 107 yesterday, still there when I read all these posts. Only a few people on...everyone must be on vacation. It does tend to slow down on the boards this time of year. But we are stuck at home, DS has recovered from his dental work and bands, and will now be starting on Monday. They have time trials, but he will just be there to get started, probably start in the first group since he has not run for several weeks. Hope he can turned around soon. He was sporadic at this summer. I told him if he expects me to negotiate leaving early with my boss to take him to the far off places they sometimes practice, he needs to give 100%. I am pushing him to study his driver's manual. If he gets the license, we will get him a good, safe car that he can use to go to practice. My boss was not happy last year.

Turning in earlier tonight since we have to get up earlier than normal (at least for DH and DS) and all of us will be trying to get ready at the same time, so breakfast will be different (we very seldom eat breakfast together). And since DH and I share the same bathroom, we need to juggle that a little. We usually do it like we do at the parks - I get up first, and clean up then get everyone else up . So will be posting my QoTD a little earlier and probably won't be back until tomorrow evening again.

So have a great evening everyone:goodvibes!

Sunday QOTD: WHY is your goal weight your goal weight? do you have a magic number? or do you want to lose enough to fit back into your "skinny" jeans? is the number you've chosen in the healthy BMI range?

My weight when I married was my weight when I joined the AF - 127, after dieting. During my college years - after we got back from Germany - I maintained for a long time around 135 or so, but I did not really check that often. Around that time I tried on my wedding dress, it still fit!!!

I used the Rotation Diet to lose about 25 pounds in the years before DS was born, and got to 135 again. I looked good, but it was a struggle to keep it there, and the long-term fertility drugs did me in.

So when I decided what a good goal would be this time, I looked at 150, taking my age into account and the fact that I remember how hard it was to stay at 135 (I felt good, but I probably wasn't eating as well as I should have). I am 5'9" so although it looks high, that is probably a good weight for me. According the the Wii, I need to go to 145 to get my BMI to a healthy level, so I will just continue and try to get where I can get. If at 150 I feel I need go lower, I will try and do so. The healthy BMI is important to me, with a family history of diabetes and heart disease.

I have some old size eight clothes, that I don't think I am getting back in, but I would like to maybe get down one more size. Right now I am around a tight size 12. But if I think I can, I will try them on again. I am not getting rid of them yet!

Carol

Carol

DD just finished driver's Ed today! As scary as it will be to let her go, I look SO forward to NOT getting up at 4:30am to,drive her to practice!

Hope the bathroom juggle goes well. I am the morning person in our house, so I'm the first to hit the bathroom in the morning always! I do my face creams and make up in the bedroom if I need to vacate the bathroom.

Sunday QOTD: WHY is your goal weight your goal weight? do you have a magic number? or do you want to lose enough to fit back into your "skinny" jeans? is the number you've chosen in the healthy BMI range?

As I've mentioned, I changed my goal a few times as I lost. My first goal was just to return to Disney no heavier than I had been on the previous trip. I hit my goal and exceeded it by a few pounds. Next goal was a nice round 150. I just couldn't imagine ever getting back to my wedding weight of 140...but I hit 150 and continued to 140, by which point I had dropped my goal to 135.. And then dropped my goal to 128. I never did hit the magical 128. I gave one more big push in April of 2011, eliminated all carbs (other than veggies), watched every single Point, worked out like crazy, and hit 129 the day I left for Disney. Needless to say I gained a bit during that trip and haven't hit the 120's since. I've decided I need to be content to have a maintenance range of 130-133. While I'd love to stay in the 120's it obviously isn't practical if it took every trick in my book just to squeak into the 120's! Difficult to reach and probably impossible to maintain. ................P

Sorry I've been a little MIA. I've been battling a really bad cold and today we went on a mega shopping spree. Thank god for bonus checks, even though it was a month late!!! LOL

Warning, mega vent coming!!

I HATE shopping with my whole family!!! They get on my nerves and spend way to much money. I can't focus when all I hear is: I'm gonna run over here, hey babe come look at this, I need that, can I buy this. OMG!!!!! I almost bought $4.00 rulers instead of the .49 cent rulers (on sale) because they Would.Not.Shut.Up!!!
I turned into that mom that everyone hates because I just couldn't take it anymore. I yelled, at all of them. Not a scream yell but a stern, period in between each word, through clenched teeth kind of yell.

and we didn't finish shopping because they couldn't get their act together and leave in the morning. And they needed to shop for 3 hours at Ikea. I just needed napkins, straws and DS16's new desk. It should not have been that hard!

I still need to buy Shoes x 5 (uniform and sneakers), Cross Country race day shoes, uniform pants x 4 for the boys, uniform shirts x 4 for DD, and gym pants x 2 for the boys.
I'm probably going to have to wait to buy the uniform pants for the boys, thank goodness they can wear shorts until Columbus Day weekend.

And can I just say to the school. I'm paying you $7450 in tuition, the least you could do is supply some of this crap they need.
And to the one PITA teacher, purple pens??? Really??? We all survived corrections in red pen, and we don't all need therapy because our teachers used red pens. Do you have any idea how hard it is to find purple pens?? And how blessed expensive they are?!?!? Buy your own freakin purple pens!!!!!!

Oh and to my lovely children, because you needed $100 in new socks because you can't wear ($%& $#!@ ergh) shoes in the house, I can't pay for my Disney race. Yeah, love you too!!! 6 months ago I bought new socks for all of you WTH!!!! Mom bought socks for herself last week, the time before that? 2 years ago!!!!!!

So now I sit and try to convince myself to not eat my headache away.

Sorry, vent over. Now I must go to bed so DS16 can go run at 7. yay.

Here's hoping for a quiet day tomorrow. At least mom is taking the 3 youngest to the flea market in the morning. I might get my kitchen clean!

 Sounds like a rough day, maybe you just need a little quiet time for yourself! I totally get the expensive school shopping, it's pretty annoying. Hope tomorrow is a nice quiet day for you!!

Sunday QOTD: My goal weight is 128 because when I lost all the weight the first time, that was my lowest I remember being. That's where I felt pretty comfortable. It's in the lower range of my BMI, and even if I'm around 130-135 after gaining some muscle, I'm cool with that too. :cool2: I'm currently at 138, so...getting there! :cool1:

Clothing size isn't too big of a deal. I'm generally 4-8's in jeans depending, in women's or teens. I'm just ready to stick to a weight so I can stop buying different sized clothes!!

Gotta say, I was totally sympathetic, but also chuckling under my breath reading all of this! I'm glad I'm not the only Mom who has these kind of moments! I can totally relate.

Hoping and praying that today is better. When the kids are at the flea market today, take a few minutes for yourself.

Happy Sunday morning friends! Woke about 4 am with a terrible headache, but didn't get up and take anything and of course, it lasted until I finally got up at 7:30 and took three Advil. DD wanted to go to church this morning, but I could NOT handle showering and dressing at 8 am. I am supposed to play in a fundraiser softball game today at 11 am (for DD's swim team), but the weather isn't too lovely right now and they are predicting showers. I'm wondering at what time they might potentially cancel. If I don't hear anything by 9 or so, I need to his the shower. Really kicking myself for signing up for this thing, but at least it is a somewhat productive way to get some exercise. But I HONESTLY haven't played softball since about 5th grade!! It won't be pretty! :lmao:

Anyone else here like rhubarb? I made some rhubarb sauce several weeks ago and put a few unsweetened batches in the freeze (I leave it unsweetened so folks can sweeten it their own way.... agave, Splenda, stevia, honey, etc). I just enjoyed a lovely rhubarb greek yogurt. Delish! And rhubarb is 0 Points! Honestly, the yogurt companies ought to hop on the bandwagon..... rhubarb yogurt and strawberry/rhubarb yogurt at absolutely delightful!

Printed a bunch of coupons from Coupon Cabin when checking email, so if I have time and I'm not soaking wet, I will hit Target and Shaw's on my way home from the softball game. So far, so good on keeping this month's grocery budget within the $500 limit. I did buy a bunch of bread products on sale and stashed them in the freezer.... it might put me a bit over the budget because it was a few months worth of bread and bagels.

Well.... I'm just rambling here. Things are pretty quiet with the end of the challenge, end of summer, etc. I know Dona is at Disney right now (lucky devil) and someone else mentioned a vacation as well (can't remember who right now), so our numbers are down. But keep at it, keep plugging away at this lifestyle journey! No excuses! It's nice to have lots of folks to talk with along the way, but remember, YOU are ultimately responsible for your choices and your success!

QOTD: as of now my goal weight is 153 which is near the high end for my height. When I get there, I'll reevaluate. :)

Hi everyone.

Pam I have 4 days until I leave. We are getting antsy about going. I know dh is. He is dreaming about DW. The last couple of days all we couple do is think next week at this time we will be .... and we fill in the blank.

BernardandMissBianca I agree with Pam. I am glad that I am not the only parent who goes through this kind of pain. I am so glad that we are past that and ds's buy their own clothes. They usually go out together since ds1 has a discount to jcpenny.

I need more PD for ds1. He has a second and final interview for the permanent job. He is going up against someone who had a temp full time position but we hope he still has a good shot since he has started his masters this summer.

QOTD I don't have a goal weight. I know that at my age if I lose a lot of weight people will think I am sick and I don't want that. I would love 150 but will be happy with anything under 200.

Have a happy and healthy day everyone.

Saturday QOTD: What motivates you more to stay OP and work harder: seeing pictures of yourself when you were heavier, or seeing a picture of someone closer to your goal weight?
Definitely seeing pictures of me at my heaviest motivates me the most. Part of the whole journey and struggles for me is that I still see myself as that big girl. But fortunately the image is changing ;)
Sunday QOTD: WHY is your goal weight your goal weight? do you have a magic number? or do you want to lose enough to fit back into your "skinny" jeans? is the number you've chosen in the healthy BMI range?

I'm not sure why my goal weight is what it is...I just got the number in my head and stuck with it! It is within a healthy weight range for my height, so at least it's a reasonable number!

**************************
I had a good time on my 5k yesterday! My time in February was 39:09, and all I wanted to do was beat it...and I did!! My official time was 36:13 :). Not quite as good as I would hope for after training for a couple months, but I still think it's a good time. My big race is only 47 days now!!

Hello all!:goodvibes. Have not posted in awhile. I blame it on the IPad, if I pause for more than a few seconds I lose my post:confused3

Carol

I've decided my goal weight is 142. A healthy BMI for me is 149 or less. I'm not sure if I could maintain under 140 and 142 gives me a nice round number of pounds lost:thumbsup2. Happy belated birthday Carol!!:wizard:

TTYL.............................P

We are doing a food budget challenge this month and trying to stay below $600.
So far we've spent about $280 in August. I'm actually going to return $9.00 worth of stuff to WM later today. Got same items cheaper at HT on sale. It's been an eye opener for us. I definitely buy too many treats I don't need and I don't see anyone else eating them.:(. I can see some other improvements we could make. I've been so much more careful with using things up and freezing things I can eat later.

I've never tried rhubarb. You make it sound good though!::yes::
Good luck at the softball game. Pam and Carol, my DS got his permit in April and has logged 30 hours so far. We are required to keep a log and you need 60 hours over one year to get your license. It does get better:hug:

GREAT time Kaiti:banana: The only time I ran 5K was just on my own, not in a race and it took me around 45 mins. 36 is awesome:thumbsup2

I have been so lazy for the past 2 weeks, only going back and forth to work and staying up until midnight watching the Olympics. I need to get back to reality:lmao: I am up a little right now and will consider myself lucky if I end this challenge where I started. Hopefully I'll do better in the Fall. I am a long ways from my 142 goal. DS had an awesome time at Sea Base and is talking about going to Philmont next summer and being a counselor at SB one day. We'll see. He is going to camp Grandma next week and we will go to the beach Aug 24-26 and then school starts Aug 27. It's been a fast summer although it seems like I did nothing but go to work:furious:

Enjoy the rest of your weekend

Shawn:cool2:

I'm back from my weekend in Boston. We had fun and kept busy. The people I went with slept later than I did and took longer to get ready for the day than I do so I had lots of time to relax. Overall, I had a good time.

Now, I'm sick to my stomach. I can almost guarantee that I ate gluten. I tried so hard, but pretty much know that succeeding was impossible. The Cheesecake Factory was a disaster. The server looked at me like I had 10 heads and pretty much made me confident ;) that there were no GF options. I took my best guess and got sick. Yesterday was better. Today was fine, I think. I might also be sick today because I ate spinach. Veggies have not been settling well lately. I have an appt with my GI doctor tomorrow. We have been keeping an eye on this and he is expecting an update then. I am currently relying on watermelon, cantaloupe, tomatoes, and cucumbers. I have been eating a little bit of lettuce too. Oh well.

Have a great week everyone!

Today was a little better. DH and I got into an argument because I bought a purse, had buyers guilt and I want to return it. DH wants me to keep that one and buy the black one just like it (the other is red). Yes, I got 51% off, not bad for a Ferrari purse, well amazing actually but I could almost pay for the race. The race isn't the biggest issue right now, it's the airfare. Over $700 for 2 people to fly from Hartford to Orlando and back. And I have 2 fabulous purses that DH spoiled me with last Christmas. I use 1 in the summer and a larger one in the winter. And really I'm not a purse person, at all. I'd much rather be a guy and carry a wallet!!!

But we did get a fab deal at the Puma store. Everything was on sale and 30% off so 3 kids got sneakers. Then we went to Famous Footwear, everything was Buy one get one 1/2 off, plus I had a 20% off coupon for the entire purchase. I got 5 pairs of school shoes for $83. That was awesome!!
Then over the Kohl's. We got 2 pair of uniform pants, a belt and 2 undergarments for me for $89, saved $73.
That was a productive day.

Dinner was a hole in the wall pasta place, and while I went over calories today, it was worth it because it was sooooo good!!! Good thing I'm going to camp with the kids this week (I'm a driver) so I will be logging some serious miles!!

I'm still torn about the race. I really want to do it, like really really, but airfare is killing me. Especially with the WDW family trip coming up.
I'm thinking about pushing back to the princess.

OK, that' for listening to the rant from Crazyville!! I just needed to get all of that off my chest.

Gonna go watch the closing ceremonies!! Have a good night all!!

I know I'll be worried, but it will just be very local travel at least. Out to the surrounding trail heads and whatnot. For meets, they go as a team on the bus, and return the same way. So no major long distance driving.

As usual, I was up and getting ready ahead of everyone else, so we all got out in time.

I have changed mu goal with WW a few times, but this last one has stuck - maybe because I haven't reached it yet :headache: Once I do, I may need to revaluate depending on how it feels.

Buy your own freakin purple pens!!!!

Been there, but not so much with DS. He couldn't care less, except about his running shoes. DH is the one that likes to buy those little extra things, I am mumbling under my breath with him sometimes! Try to go do school shopping without him, it is so much easier!
Purple pens are my personal fav, but they are really hard to find - maybe you should mention it to her nicely about how much you had to look the next time you run into her.
But generally I hate shopping, so I try to get in and out as quickly as possible. I hope the rest of the day was better and you got a clean kitchen today!

I'm currently at 138, so...getting there!
Clothing size isn't too big of a deal. I'm generally 4-8's in jeans depending, in women's or teens. I'm just ready to stick to a weight so I can stop buying different sized clothes!!

Yeah, I found out with clothing size I can't even count on a number - 12 in one pair and 14 in another - in the same store! I have been able to stick with most of what I bought in one giant splurge when I ran out of old clothes to wear as I "shrunk".

You are nearly there! And I agree, clothing sizes shouldn't be a big deal. They are SO inconsistent!
TTYL.............................P

Hope your headache goes away, how did the softball go?

Not a big rhubarb fan, my parents loved it though, so I ate is some as a kids in pies and stuff.

Numbers are down, I can keep up!

QOTD: as of now my goal weight is 153 which is near the high end for my height. When I get there, I'll reevaluate. :)

Around mine, back when I set my goal I looked at the height-weight charts and then picked the number. I think I am on the mid-high point in my range, but I will be happy to be looking and feeling good!

4 more days, how cool...pixiedust: for your DS. Hope he gets the job!

I had a similar situation happened when I use the rotation diet to lose a lot of weight quick (never again). My boss posed an "intervention", and told me that she was worried about my quick weight loss. She thought I had suddenly developed anorexia, but I had only lost about 15 pounds at that point, and eventually made 25. She watched me like a hawk to make sure I was eating  Even when I became evident I wasn't losing anymore.

Definitely seeing pictures of me at my heaviest motivates me the most. Part of the whole journey and struggles for me is that I still see myself as that big girl. But fortunately the image is changing ;)
I'm not sure why my goal weight is what it is...I just got the number in my head and stuck with it! It is within a healthy weight range for my height, so at least it's a reasonable number!
I had a good time on my 5k yesterday! My time in February was 39:09, and all I wanted to do was beat it...and I did!! My official time was 36:13. Not quite as good as I would hope for after training for a couple months, but I still think it's a good time. My big race is only 47 days now!!

Good job on the race! And good luck with the next one! I can only live vicariously through you runners! At least I get to watch DS, but with cross-country, I guess he just runs by where I am only 6 or 7 times during a meet...

Nice to see the image change, isn't it? :goodvibes

Hello all!. Have not posted in awhile. I blame it on the IPad, if I pause for more than a few seconds I lose my post:confused3
I've decided my goal weight is 142. A healthy BMI for me is 149 or less. I'm not sure if I could maintain under 140 and 142 gives me a nice round number of pounds lost. Happy belated birthday Carol!!
 for you Buffy. (I was also chuckling like Pam said too):rotfl:
I must say sometimes I am grateful for my ONE child who is a 15 yr old very laid back boy:)
We are doing a food budget challenge this month and trying to stay below $600.
So far we've spent about $280 in August. I'm actually going to return $9.00 worth of stuff to WM later today. Got same items cheaper at HT on sale. It's been an eye opener for us. I definitely buy too many treats I don't need and I don't see anyone else eating them..
4 more days; PD for your son:wizard:

145 is my BMI, which is why I may need to adjust it down once I reach 150. Thanks!

I do think we need to keep a log. I just need to get him his permit...I told him to be ready to get it next weekend. We will just need to drive on weekends to get his hours. When we are ready, his instructor from school (who is also his coach) can administer the driving test :cool1: Then we just do the rest of the stuff at the DMV - way easier, and he'll be less nervous with someone he knows.

I will end this challenge with a loss, but no where near what I was hoping for. Hopefully once school starts, a nice regular schedule will help.

Glad you had a relaxing time, but sorry about the lack of options at CF. It would be hard to guess with their food. Hope the doctor can find out what is going on.

Hey everyone,
Just wanted to pass along a reminder message about the upcoming NEDisMeet that is scheduled for Sept 14-16 in Western MA! Events include a Welcome Dinner, a day at the Big E or or visit Yankee Candle home, or other options, and Sunday is a live podcast with almost all of the podcast team at a pancake breakfast with the proceeds going to Give Kids the World!
Our group raised over $10,000 for GKTW last summer and we hope to equal or match that! We will also have several amazing auction items and door prizes available!
If interested check out *******.com/NEDisMeet
Come to some or all of the events! It's going to be a great weekend for a great cause!
TTFN :tigger:

Hope you get a big turnout!

This is the place to let it all hang out!!! Glad things got better. Those hole in the wall places sometimes have the BEST food!!

I'm off to bed as soon as I post the QoTD. I'm DVRing the ceremonies, no time to watch, need to get some sleep. Early to work tomorrow, my boss is back and need to convince him to let me leave early a few times to take DS to track practice!

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Today was fun, we went to Mt Vernon for DS assignment, he got his pictures and then we did a couple of tours and wandered around the grounds and the museum. Only just a little warm, and we stayed way longer than we planned. Lots of stuff to see. Over 4 miles on my pedometer, my feet felt it! Gotta start getting them back in shape for WDW! It said I burned almost 800 calories, I'll take that!

Need to hit the hay. Early to work tomorrow, as I think my boss is planning early as well. Need to sit down find time to talk to him, always hard when they are trying to catch up!

Carol

Monday QOTD: What is something you can do in 60 seconds today to prolong your life?

Be back tomorrow with my answer. Good night all!

Carol

Hi everyone.

Pam I have 4 days until I leave. We are getting antsy about going. I know dh is. He is dreaming about DW. The last couple of days all we couple do is think next week at this time we will be .... and we fill in the blank.

Oh! Hi! I thought you were long gone! Glad I have a chance to say "safe travels" and "have fun" before you go!! Sometimes the trip anticipation is half the fun!!

BernardandMissBianca I agree with Pam. I am glad that I am not the only parent who goes through this kind of pain. I am so glad that we are past that and ds's buy their own clothes. They usually go out together since ds1 has a discount to jcpenny.

DS isn't hard to deal with. He lets me buy/pick everything.... he has only two criteria.... nothing pink and nothing plaid. Other than shoes, I am able to buy everything he needs without his being there! :thumbsup2

I need more PD for ds1. He has a second and final interview for the permanent job. He is going up against someone who had a temp full time position but we hope he still has a good shot since he has started his masters this summer.

Definite prayers coming for that job situation.

QOTD I don't have a goal weight. I know that at my age if I lose a lot of weight people will think I am sick and I don't want that. I would love 150 but will be happy with anything under 200.

Have a happy and healthy day everyone.

I agree... as you age a bit and then lose weight, you can start to look gaunt if you lose too quickly and then rather than getting compliments, you get looks of concern! ::yes::

Definitely seeing pictures of me at my heaviest motivates me the most. Part of the whole journey and struggles for me is that I still see myself as that big girl. But fortunately the image is changing ;)

Glad your self-image is changing as your physical image changes! That is so important and I continue to struggle with it myself.

I'm not sure why my goal weight is what it is...I just got the number in my head and stuck with it! It is within a healthy weight range for my height, so at least it's a reasonable number!

Good job on the time drop. And don't forget, race adrenalin will definitely push you along a bit faster on the big day!

 for you Buffy. (I was also chuckling like Pam said too):rotfl:
I must say sometimes I am grateful for my ONE child who is a 15 yr old very laid back boy:)

Gotta love our easy-going boys!

Did the math this morning and we have already spent nearly $475 with about half of the month to go! That said, I hit some good sales and had some good coupons and really did some stocking up in some categories, so even if I go a bit over this month, I know in the long run I did okay. For example, the special urinary tract care cat food my cat needs was on sale with a $5 Target gift card back if I bought two. Obviously it made sense to buy 2, as I will use it up in the next few months. Also hit a few other good sale/coupon combos on things like natural peanut butter, Morning Star Farms veggie burgers, Bagel Thins and Sandwich Thins.... so I have plenty of those items to last for a few months! I figure as long as we AVERAGE about $500 a month or less, we are doing okay. It will take a few months to see if we really are there though.

Gotta ask you what you include in "groceries". I am figuring that if I usually buy it on a grocery run, I'll count it for groceries. This includes cat food/litter, trash bags, shampoo/soap, paper towels, laundry detergent, feminine products, cleaning supplies. But not mouse food (cause I buy that at Petco), make-up/nail polish (mostly DD's stuff), candy.

I've never tried rhubarb. You make it sound good though!::yes::
Good luck at the softball game.

Got all the way to the middle school 25 minutes away only to find out that the game was called off at the last minute. I was a bit frustrated, but relieved! DD and I changed clothes (we had brought a change along in case of rain/mud) and headed out to go back to school shopping! Didn't get home until 8 pm! :cool1:

Pam and Carol, my DS got his permit in April and has logged 30 hours so far. We are required to keep a log and you need 60 hours over one year to get your license. It does get better:hug:

In NH you don't need to "get" a permit. You are allowed to start driving with a licensed adult in the car at age 15 1/2. DD started off with a bang, but then fizzled out and lost her enthusiasm for driving. I finally got her into Driver's Ed this summer, which they are required to take if they want a license under age 18 here in NH. She got her "green card" Saturday and hopefully we will hit the DMV soon! She definitely hit her 30+ hours over the past year and a half though!

It was a fast summer. Especially since we are just finally in relaxing mode here, since Driver's Ed is over and summer swim season has ended! Trying hard to relax and enjoy these next 16 days until the kids return to school!

I'm back from my weekend in Boston. We had fun and kept busy. The people I went with slept later than I did and took longer to get ready for the day than I do so I had lots of time to relax. Overall, I had a good time.

Glad you enjoyed Boston, but sorry you got sick. Wish most restaurants would understand the importance of cross-contamination with things like allergies and CD.

Love to check into it, but what's up with the link?? Anyone here besides Tracey planning on attending? I love the Big E and haven't been in years.

I DO carry a wallet! I had just a back pocket wallet for a long time, but I overstuffed it and things started falling out. I bought a bigger wallet that has a strap over the credit cards to keep things from being lost, but it doesn't fit in my pocket, so now I'm annoyed with it. I had to stop carrying a regular purse because it was hurting my shoulder and neck. Sometimes I carry a small across the body type bag if I really need a purse.

I keep a purse in the car with all of the "extras".

WOOHOOO! Love it when you hit sales like that! I spent a chunk of change yesterday myself (Kohl's, Old Navy, Aeropostale, Hollister), but used coupons in nearly every store and only bought stuff on sale or clearance. Other than sneakers and shoes for DS and maybe another pair of jeans or two for each of them, I should be done (other than school supplies for DD).

Dinner was a hole in the wall pasta place, and while I went over calories today, it was worth it because it was sooooo good!!! Good thing I'm going to camp with the kids this week (I'm a driver) so I will be logging some serious miles!!

Don't you wish you could exercise while you drive???

I'm still torn about the race. I really want to do it, like really really, but airfare is killing me. Especially with the WDW family trip coming up.
I'm thinking about pushing back to the princess.

OK, that' for listening to the rant from Crazyville!! I just needed to get all of that off my chest.
Gonna go watch the closing ceremonies!! Have a good night all!!

Have you ever considered flying into Providence, RI? Not sure it would be any cheaper, but worth a look if it isn't too long a drive.

I know I'll be worried, but it will just be very local travel at least. Out to the surrounding trail heads and whatnot. For meets, they go as a team on the bus, and return the same way. So no major long distance driving.

DD will mostly be driving to the Y for practice, a.m. and p.m., plus back and forth to school. It is about a 25 minute drive each way to the Y and a 20 minute drive each way (from home) to the school.

DH is big on throwing a "bit of this and a bit of that" into the cart (especially at Costco)....things I totally haven't counted on in the budget. That said, I'm guilty of that in crafting stores, so I try not to complain!

I put back a few things I had picked out for myself yesterday, figuring that the bill would be big enough and I could shop for myself another time. That said, I did buy two pairs of walking shorts and a pair of jeans, all on clearance at ON (plus I had a coupon!). I definitely needed the jeans and the shorts will be a good go-to for work on those hot early fall days (instead of a skirt). Oh.... and a new Mickey shirt...;) (but it was on clearance too!)

Yeah, I found out with clothing size I can't even count on a number - 12 in one pair and 14 in another - in the same store! I have been able to stick with most of what I bought in one giant splurge when I ran out of old clothes to wear as I "shrunk".

I don't count on sizes ANYWHERE any more! I used to be a solid "6" at Old Navy... then lost a bit more and was a "4". But yesterday the 4 shorts were too tight and the 6 jeans were too big! I had to try on several types until I found the right combo.

Hope your headache goes away, how did the softball go?

Headache went away with 3 Advil and caffeine. Softball was called off!:yay:

Not a big rhubarb fan, my parents loved it though, so I ate is some as a kids in pies and stuff.

Try it again next spring if you get the chance. It is really delish.

Numbers are down, I can keep up!

Me too!!

Never heard of this diet. What does it entail??

I do think we need to keep a log. I just need to get him his permit...I told him to be ready to get it next weekend. We will just need to drive on weekends to get his hours. When we are ready, his instructor from school (who is also his coach) can administer the driving test :cool1: Then we just do the rest of the stuff at the DMV - way easier, and he'll be less nervous with someone he knows.

Keep a small notebook and pencil in the glovebox. It is SO MUCH easier to record it as you go along rather than try to remember to write it down later! Be sure to write down the time of day he drives too.... I don't know about your state, but in NH they need a certain number of dark hours.

Sounds like a fun day at MV!

Monday QOTD: What is something you can do in 60 seconds today to prolong your life?

Be back tomorrow with my answer. Good night all!

I can take my Vitamin D!! I've been really slacking on ALL of my vitamins and supplements since getting back from vacation.

Do you ALL know how important Vitamin D is and how very lacking most of us are in it??

Happy Monday friends! Off to another busy but hopefully somewhat relaxing week here! The countdown is on for school (but don't tell the kids ;) ). Today is chiropractic appointments for DD and myself, hopefully a haircut for DS, and maybe a workout at the Y. Also moving laundry along and will try to finish the project I've got going for the mudroom (found a free mirror on the side of the road.... trying to paint and distress it to hang over the mudroom bench. Will post pictures if it comes out okay).

WOW! It is nearly 11 am already? That is what I get for sleeping in this morning! I couldn't believe it when I woke up and it was 7:45 am already! Made a special breakfast for everyone (Mickey waffles.... low carb for DH) and an eggwhite sandwich for myself. Was going to put stew in the crockpot, but don't have enough veggies, so that will wait until I buy carrots and onions this week.

Lunch will be a nice baked fish, green beans, and brown rice. That will be our big meal for today. Dinner will be sandwiches and salads.

Off to hunt down a coupon for the haircut.

That reminds me.... ANYONE IN THE MARKET FOR A KEURIG?? I got a $20 coupon for a single cup Keurig from Target yesterday that I won't be using. Thought I'd offer it here first.
