Biggest Loser "Sizzlin' Hot" Summer Challenge

QOTD Monday: If WDW is known for something, it's gift shops! Epcot is one of the best place to shop besides DTD. With all the different culture's stores and Mousegears, there are plenty of different things to buy. Some people consider shopping a workout, which got me thinking: How do you define exercise/workouts? What is the least amount of work you have to do before you consider it a real workout?

for me traditional exercise is what I consider working out. Aerobic, spinning, running, swimming.
I don't typically count my daily moving around, although as long as I'm moving I do burn calories. The 3 things I do count are roller skating, mowing lawn, and housework. I sweat like a pig doing all of those things so I definitely count them.

I think 30 minutes is probably the minimum. That's what most workout videos are so that kind of gives me a base.

Quote of the Day
Think a 20 minute workout won't do anything? Well it's a hell of a lot better than a 0 minute workout

We had a big storm here on friday and it fried our internet so i've been mia since today. My scale seems to be stuck, which really annoys me, since its not stuck on a number i particularly like. I've decided to try the first four days of the flat belly diet and see how it goes, i will be starting on wednesday, but i'm going grocery shopping today.

my mom is out of town for the week so i though it was a good time to try it. Last night I worked till about 5 then came home and did some housework and threw together a healthy dinner for my dad brother and i. marinated grilled chicken, roast veggies, and brown rice. It was pretty tasty. I worked about 50 hours last week and another 50 this week, this is my first day off and im exhausted. i woke up around 9 but it was thundering and i curled up on the couch and just dozed till 1230. My muscles are killing me, i have a feeling it has to go with the weather.

I'm going to head to the grocery store now, then i need to get some stuff around the house done and hopefully seeing my boyfriend. he's worked two overnights in two days and hes exhausted as well

wish me luck at the grocery store

Spent 15 minutes typing replies on my IPad before the battery died without warning! No time left to chit chat.

Will repeat my answer to today's QOTD later. BBL.........P

I think that exercise/workouts are when you work up a sweat. For me a workout is something that I dread so I try to get it done as quickly as possible. For things that I do on a daily basis, i.e. walking too and from the printer at work, I do not consider it to be a workout. I think that I have to put in a solid 20 minutes before I consider it a real workout.

Have a fantastic monday everyone!

QOTD: For me, anytime I am moving I consider it exercise. However, during this journey, I workout. To me, I am not working out until I am out of breath, feel some kind of pain to know my muscles are working, or at least on the brink of sweating. For some people just starting out, shopping could be a workout, but for me, it's just a part of everyday life. I can lift the 5lb weights at home and not sweat but still be a little sore the next day, so that is probably the least I could do.

Have a great day!! :goodvibes

I count traditional exercise, but I also count a few minutes at work. When I hit the floor at 6:45 it is around midnight before I sit down. So for over 5 hours I am moving in one way or another. Now I don't count the entire 5 hours, but I will give myself credit for at least 30 minutes.

Lab results are in, FINALLY!!!

We were driving home from running errands and Alan's cell went off. I about jumped out of the car I was so excited, LOL

2 hour glucose test was high, 175 but won't have to redo it. Cholesterol was high (205). DHEA was elevated 535, should be under 250. She said more then likely I'll get put on Metformin for my insulin levels and another med to lower my DHEA levels. I can follow up with them after my hematologist apt, which I still need to make. Told me I could start my Provera. Alan's "lil buddy" count was 80 million, not 80 thousand like he told me.

Starting Provera in the morning. Thoughts and good luck vibes please. The last time I took 10mg of Provera it made me sicker then a dog.

I don't count my normal housework toward my exercise for the day. Like another person said I don't count it unless its deliberate (i.e. treadmill, swimming, workout DVD, etc). Now I have been known on my lazy days to count my distance walked (around the house and during errands) toward my mileage. The least amount of work I do to consider it a workout is 30 minutes. Typically in 30 minutes I can walk half a mile on the treadmill and swim half a mile in the pool.

I consider a workout when it is planned, takes more than 30 minutes and I sweat at some point. Since I have been off for the summer, have been doing well on the weekdays when I drop off my older son to work at the high school then run/walk on the track for an hour. The weekends have been getting me so I need to really make an effort to do something instead of slugging around at times.

I don't consider anything that I usually do, housework, laundry, etc. exercise ... however, I have been weeding my ivy that is on a huge hill. I have been counting that lately since it is out of the ordinary.

Before the weekly superstar list comes the disclaimer. I am human and I make mistakes. If you have any questions please contact me. For your reference this is the magic percentage of weight lost formula - weight loss for the week divided by weight for last week times 100, that gives us the percentage. Now let me test that with my numbers for week 1, click, click, click goes the calculator. Yes, that agrees with the percentage on the magic spreadsheet. (btw if its been more than 1 week between weigh-ins, then the % loss is divided by the number of weeks, to keep everybody on the same basis)

Now let's get to the good stuff. Who were our superstars of week 3?

NOW FOR THOSE OF US WHO SET A GOAL FOR THE CHALLENGE!!!

NOTE: This list includes participants who have reported in within the last 3 weeks, once someone misses 3 weigh-ins they are dropped from this report.

How this works: You set your goal for what you want to lose in the challenge. Then I calculate your weight loss in the challenge divided by your goal to get a % to goal.

Anybody can change their goal at anytime (or add a goal) – all you have to do is send me a PM.

Since the goals are an individual thing, the list is just in alphabetical order to make it easier for everybody to find their own name. If there are any questions or suggestions please let me know.

We have done 3 out of 13 weeks, so the challenge is 23% complete.

:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:
Way to go everyone!
I was so hopping to make the top 10 this week and I am so excited I made it!
Thank you to everyone who runs this thread and posts on it. I really don't post too much because it gets hard with such a large thread but I do try to follow along and read everything and it does inspire me. This has me even more pumped for this week!

Now a little news. We are going to Vegas, baby! 4 nights in August. I am really excited but nervous about maintaining while there. I have no illusions that I will lose weight that week but I will NOT gain any!

My food plan is to bring Nutrasystem food and healthy snacks for the plane, breakfast everyday, (and I love breakfast foods so I really cant let myself deviate on this one otherwise I will go crazy) lunch bars, protein shakes and snacks that will travel like almonds. I know we will be eating out every meal but this way I can skip breakfast in a restaurant, order just a salad for lunch and healthier options like fish and veggies for dinner. If I can find one I can also have a veggie sub at Subway for about 300 calories including avocado. I am going to go buy a self-filtering water bottle so I will always have water. I will limit my alcohol also.

For exercise there is a fitness room but I will have to pay for it. It is $40 for a 5 day pass and I'll have to put it out because I will need to do cardio everyday and that will be the only place to do it. I will bring my resistance bands with me as well. As a treat I will upgrade to the fitness/spa pass so it will be $85 total and I can go soak in the hot tub after. :cloud9:
There is also all the walking we will be doing up and down the strip. Now that I think about it I should get a pedometer. Any opinions on a good but decent priced one?

We are also going to Houston for 5 days July 4th weekend but that is much easier. We will be at DBil's house so I will have access to a full kitchen, a car to go to the grocery store or I can even bring things in a cooler since it is only a 2 1/2 hour drive and we can go running in his neighborhood. I'm sure we will eat out but I can plan that better than in Vegas. I allow myself one "cheat" meal a week so I will work those in for both trips.

And the best part. All my old cute clothes should fit me now! I think I am going to go try some on now!

I define exercise/workouts as something extra, different from my regular daily activity for living. The least amount of work would be doing something extra that brings up my heart rate, shortens my breath, causes me to sweat, etc.

Pam A lot of our graduation parties are held at people's homes here too. Our problem is the fact that our house has a lot of steps to get in and out of and we have a lot of elderly family members that would have trouble with this.

The hall we rented was from our church and was only 250.00 for the day. When we priced everything out ... renting a tent, ice (which the hall had for free) setting up tables and worrying about the weather (along with getting my house together) we thought the hall was a steal! :lmao: Our second son is graduating next year and we already have the hall booked. Many families are starting to catch on to this. We were the second family to book the hall for next year ....

A lot of families here rent halls. My nephew's was at a vfw and was catered by them. DSis was so happy to not have to do anything but decorate. I think it's a western PA thing, too. My college roommate lives in VA now & she said she misses all the church fairs in the summers and fish frys during lent. They don't have anything like that where she is in VA. She came home (Pitts) during lent and made her DH go to 3 different fish frys in one night!!

Sounds like a kitty stress problem. Does he need therapy???:rotfl:

Probably! The dog always wants to play & my cat is a lazy boy. He doesn't ever want to play. Come to think of it, I think I stressed him when we went to wdw in May. We were gone 3 full days and a 1/2 day and left him home alone. He has a doggy door to go in and out of, but I'm sure he wasn't happy. He goes to grandma's (my mom) Friday for a week while we are at the beach. He loves it there, so maybe he'll forgive us!

Exercise gets my heartrate going and is planned. I also think of exercise as pushing myself. I took my dog for a 30 minute walk today & really don't think of it as exercise since I wasn't pushing myself. So, I guess I would say 30 minutes+ is a workout as long as I am trying hard to do my best!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hello everyone! I hope you are all doing well. I am keeping quite busy trying to get ready to leave for vaycay Saturday and get things organized because we are trying to refinance. I started making menus for our beach vacation. We plan on cooking at the condo every night but one. That night we'll hit a local seafood restaurant. I will not be on plan that day. I'm a sucker for good southern hush puppies and sweet tea!
I am hoping to keep up with my running plan while at the beach. Last year I ran, but we are in a different area & I don't know if there's sidewalks where we are staying. If not, I guess I'll run on the beach...nice & early before the heat & humidity kill me!!
I'm going to catch up on some shows I dvr'd and keep working on my grocery list amongst all the other lists I have going on! Ttyl!
Jill
I was little suzy home maker again today. Well half haha. I was literally so exhausted from working SO MANY hours this week, with no change on the horizon, that i slept away most of the morning on the couch. But it wasn't really restful as i kept telling myself that i needed to get up and do things! My plan this week is to spend about an hour a day cleaning, meal planning, and getting things ready for the next day, and 30 min a day running so when i finally get another day off a week from today, i really can spend it doing nothing!
I'm really kicking it into gear because the scale is not budging. its been at 138 for 3 weeks now and i would like to see a little movement. i took a week off from running so now i need to get back out there, and 30 min a day is doable, especially since i don't work any nights this week.
My work schedule for this week is as follows (HBS stands for Harriet Beecher Stowe Center and PS stands for Petsmart)
Tues: 9-5:30 @ HBS
Wed: 7am - 3pm @PS
Thurs: 7am - 11am @ PS
FRI: 9-530 @ HBS
SAT: 9-6:30 @ HBS
Sun: 11am - 12pm @ PS, 1pm-5:30pm @ HBS, 6pm-11pm @PS
Sunday is going to suck. But as you can see its a busy week but i think i can stay motivated and stay on track! Like i said before my mom is away and im really trying to make healthy meals for my dad. We'll have chicken one night (any side dish suggestions?), salmon another night, salad another night, i won't be able to do this next week because i start my summer class, but my dad is having some major issues with his diabetes, and might even be losing his eyesight and im very worried he's going to have a heart attack, so maybe if i make him eat healthy then well...he will? I'm just really worried about him.
Tonight i made soup from scratch, i just kind of through together a recipe but it was really good. I'll post my "recipe"..I just callled it sausage soup
I made this so i would have some to freeze, so cut it down if it seems like too much.
2 boxes low sodium chicken broth
2 cans diced tomatoes low salt
12 links chicken sausage (I used the pinapple kind)
8 oz of Kale (I should have used 16oz) chopped I used frozen
1 zuchunni chopped
1 onion chopped
2 cups lentils
various spices for taste (i used pepper, oregano, parsely, garlic, thyme, and basil)
Brown sasuage, and zuchunni and onions, add everything into pot and bring to boil, turn down to simmer for 40 - 45 minutes.
Let me tell you, it was quick it was easy, it seemed healthy and it was delicious. I saw sausage in my fridge and thats what i came up with.
Finally, im having INTENSE arm pain and upper neck and shoulder pain. im so sore and achy i want to cry. my boyfriend massaged me a while, and now i have a heating pad and lidocaine patched on them but holy moly does it hurt. im not sure if its the fibro acting up or whaat, but i need like a real massage, which i cannot afford!
Allright i better get to bed if i want to get up for work tomorrow! Tomorrow is work, then squuezing a run in before dinner with a friend, then cleaning for an hour then BED
That soup sounds really good!! I need to try to incorporate kale into our diet...have yet to do that!
Just some encouraging signs after being on biggest loser for 3 weeks! I see collar bones!!! :) And what is even more amazing, is when I wear my sports bra to walk on the treadmill...I no longer have a uni****! :) I stopped wearing them for awhile because it was so unnerving to see my bOOks being smushed together...maybe it's because the sports bra is so much looser now and they have adequate space...whatever it is, it is a sign that my body is MORPHING into a more fit and healthy body!!! It is a wondrous thing!!
I have done much better this week on food, last week was a disappointment and would not get me to goal, still 'lost' but barely....so this week, I'm pulling out all the stops....watching very carefully what I eat and making sure it's a power food so I can keep up my 30 miles this week. Managed 15 last week but I had to be up at 5am (most mornings only had 3 hours of sleep thanks to errant puppies!) and drive 2 hours each day to get my son to rowing camp...I was just soo tired and we ate some meals on the go because of it...not happening this week!
Hope everyone stays strong and focuses on the fact that each loss represents a stronger and healthier you!!
Morning all!!!
I guess I beat Pamela posting today, even though I'm late. I was so tired and had a massive coughing fit last night so I took Nyquil and was doped up this morning. DH ended up taking DS15 to practice and picked him back up.
I dragged my butt out of bed just in time to throw clothes on and take the boys to camp.
DS15 and I did intervals this morning and I did better than expected.
I also wore my Everest Race shirt and it looks better on me. My belly was so big when I got it, it was tight but now it fits really nicely. I guess my belly is shrinking, it's just going slow. I hope slow is good so the skin has time to shrink.
I guess I should run. I need to take something out for dinner and get ready to get the boys.
Inspired by my confidence that I actually have a shot at finishing the 1/2:
Quote of the Day
"It's impossible" said pride.
"It's risky" said experience.
"It's pointless" said reason.
"Give it a try" whispered the heart
