I am still watching BL(West Coast Person) and wondering what everyone thought of the 4 different persons path to the finish line?

I wasn't thrilled of how Ron was doing(from a Race Director's point of view) but great to see everyone finish. This shows if you are dedictaed and have the mindset, anything is possible!

Keep up the training :thumbsup2

Robert: When I first heard about the challenge I was really upset that they would have them do a marathon on such short training. I felt like they were trivializing the amount of work that went into training for a marathon. Yes, you too can do a marathon in 30 days. When I thought about it more I realized they had been doing a serious amount of training over the previous 4 months so maybe it wasn't so unrealistic. I still do think that they will pay for the punishment they put on their bodies. Instead of allowing themselves the proper time to recover they need to get right back at it in order to be ready for the finale. All that said, I had goose bumps as all of them crossed the finish line. I'm always amazed when someone finishes a marathon for the first time. It's very inspiring. Both Tara and Helen's times were very impressive and the fact that Ron even attempted to finish was amazing. He must have been in a lot of pain.

I choked up when Ron crossed the finish line and everyone was cheering him on. That poor guy must have been in so much pain, but I'm happy he finished. I'm glad that Bernie stood up for us walkers....we are marathoners too!:thumbsup2

I agree about the training time. They did do a half earlier and so you figure that they had been building over the last 17 weeks. I also see them paying for a very little(or no recovery) as they pound out workouts to win. I am happy about Ron finishing but I don't think they should have allowed him to attempt it. Mike saying he didn't consider him doing a marathon because he didn't run it is an insult to us walkers. At least when I walk the marathon, I don't take 9 hrs!

One of the coments that was interesting to me was when one of them said fat people are not marathoners. Of course I know that when you typically say marathoner you think of someone who is skinny but as someone who have completed 3 marathons (including one GOOFY) at 250 pounds with a best time of 4:49, I can say that marathoners come in ALL shapes and sizes.

I missed most of the marathon episode because, as luck would have it, I was outside, running. I didn't make guesses on the time, but once I heard that Mike could not run, I knew what order in which they would finish.

Yes, it took a long time for Mike and Ron to finish. But that doesn't diminish their accomplishment, and I have respect for everyone who completes a marathon, whether they walk, run, skip, joggle or some combination thereof.

I have followed the show every week and I am not a big Ron fan. I've got to say though that I'm impressed that he finished with the stuff he had to overcome.

...and for the girl to go from almost 300 lbs to a 4:55 marathoner in about 20 weeks is mighty impressive!

I hope the show doesn't push a bunch of couch potatos to try to do it in 30 days. A push out the door - sure. A push to the start of a marathon -oops.

I did like that Bernie set Mike straight about the fact that just because he couldn't complete the marathon running didn't mean that he didn't complete it or that "just" walking it meant it didn't count.

We need to remember Mike is an 18 year old kid. What we thought then and what we think now are 2 totally different things.AHHH! Youth!

I don't watch BL but would have liked to have seen this episode. Do they have it online?
There is definitely a prejudice against walkers. When people learn that I have "walked" every step of my marathons, they are generally unimpressed and consider it less of an accomplishment.

I haven't done a marathon, but I have done two half marathons, and in both I have done some walking, some running. And for me the walking part is harder! So my hat's off to ANYONE who has walked an entire marathon!

ETA: It is not online yet, but keep looking. Last week's episode is there at nbc.com, so it will probably just be a matter of time before it shows up. It will be listed as episode 18.

I think people misunderstand "walking" a marathon. There are pace requirements and it's not like strolling along. There was not a pace requirement on the BL. It was nice to see Ron actually complete a challenge. I was impressed with Helen's success.

I am pretty sure NBC posts BL online a week after it airs.
Kinda stinks if you ask me! I watch ABC shows at work the next morning....

I was pretty PO'ed at Mike for talking like that about walkers. I get the same thing alot - "you 'only' walked the half marathon?"

In my experience when a runner is sidelined with an injury - they find that 'only' walking is much harder!

As much as I can't stand Ron - I was very, very impressed he finished. I don't know that it was wise given his injuries & such. But good for him!!!

I don't like Ron either, but his finishing was impressive. I have to wonder though, considering how much pain it put him in, how this will affect the rest of the competition - and it will be interesting to see how America voted as to whether it is Ron or Mike in the finals.

I was behind two weeks on the BL shows...missed the first one because of packing and the second one we were at WDW. Just got caught up this morning and had been avoiding any posts with mention of BL so not to spoil it before I watched.

I was very glad to hear Mike being set straight on finishing the marathon either walking or running was an accomplishment.

I too am not a Ron fan but was impressed with his determination to finish, at the end when they all were walking with him and Mike standing on the other side of the finish line, I did get chocked up.

Tara always amazes me and I love how hard Helen is working at it too. It shows that no matter the age you can get control of your life and weight.

I saw cousins Blaine and Dane at the CMM expo and they both finished the marathon, with its hills and heat, with a clock time of 5:47. These people have undergone amazing transformations. You can't help but be impressed.
