Biggest Loser Fall Challenge!

Remember my community bowl rule! Not everyone washes their hands after the potty! Stat out of the toilet bowl of candy!

OMG I just saw your ticker line.....I never realized they expire! Never never do I not want a ticker under my posts! will have to determine when the next trip will be! lol

Happy Thursday all! :goodvibes

Congratulations to all our superstars and especially our Biggest Loser, Christopher! Way to start off this challenge with a bang! :yay:

I am behind so I am just jumping in on this page. pixiedust and :hugs: to all who need it!

Melinda, have a wonderful time on your cruise and your visit to WDW. Congratulations on half #11 -- you totally rock! :rockband: You will be so ready for W&D soon! My advice is plan to get right back on track after your trip -- like the very day that you return. Don't worry about the vacation weight because just the airplane ride can do a number on me. Perhaps being mindful when you are making choices or not being afraid to take only a bite or two of something -- you travel with a crowd I know so you can share! :goodvibes

indygirl99, congrats to your DH. Sorry it was so cold at the beach but a bad day at the beach beats a good day at work any day in my book! :beach

Kaiti, no worries about the internet issue. We are glad that you are okay. :flower3: Thanks for coaching this week! I love all your photos!

Hi all! Just got back from our Disney Fantasy cruise! Wow!! Too fast, scale shows a gain of 7 pounds in 8 days!! WHOA!!! Plus TOM hit the last day so hopeful half that is water weight, we'll find out this Friday! I am only 40-45 pounds from GOAL!!! So excited!! I was alerted I'm Team Asia...so I am happy to meet all Asians on this challenge!!!

I will get my weight loss back into gear and take off these vacation pounds!! :) Feel pretty bloated!! :) Let's lose!! :)

:welcome: back! Glad that you had a great time and excellent getting right back on track. Hopefully some of that weight is from travelling and quickly comes off. I do find the faster you get back on track, the faster your body seems to let go of the vacation weight. It's when it gets to that old weight it slows down again. :confused3

:welcome: Jaina! Sounds like you are off to a great start!

Dona, hope things are calming down a bit at school now that everyone is almost used to being back! :flower3:

I'm a bit lost too. I missed some stuff over the weekend, so probably there was some explanation there. I'll try to go back and take a peek and let you know what I find!

Here is the link to the information about the groups http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=45953534&postcount=4
I think it is just another tool to give you a smaller group to check in with for support. :goodvibes

Pamela, I am so sorry about DD's issues with the Y swim team. I don't think it is abandoning your team if she decides not to continue since everyone else left first, KWIM? She still has her high school swim team, right? And she just fulfilled her lifelong dream about her diving certification. Maybe this is a sign that something better is coming down the pike for her as she finishes her senior year and gets ready for the first year of college. Everything happens for a reason. It's just hard to see it for awhile. :hugs:

I did good most of yesterday. Healthy eating, 2.5 miles of jogging, and then had a bit of a conflict with my DD and stress ate a few handfuls of pretzel sticks. Not the end of the world but the scale didn't move today so not great either. :(

Pretzels happen. Your hard work will pay off soon! :flower3:

pjilla, we probably could postpone our move, but we're living with my parents. While they've been so wonderful to let us stay here while our house is being built, we've been here since May and I think everyone is ready for their own space. This house is not made for 6 people! :crowded: We can take our time moving, and everything doesn't have to be moved at once, which really helps, but I think we'll try to move as quickly as possible. It'll be better for everyone's sanity :crazy2:

Good luck with your move! You've done a lot of moving in the past year so I'm sure it will be nice to be home at last! :flower3: pixiedust: for you that everything goes smoothly.

QOTD - sadly that doesn't work for me, I would rather have the unhealthy foods less often but a decent amount when I do than have them everyday but a micro portion. Just me I guess.

I'm in the same camp. It's easier for me to avoid things, except occassionally rather than have them around tempting me. ::yes::

I feel like shouting "I am here, I am here, I am here!" from Horton Hears A Who. I've been here this week...stalking, er lurking..thru all the posts but because I typically only get a chance to read in as catch-as-catch-can on my iPhone, I can't really respond (that one thumb typing thing is just not working for me...:rotfl2:). So, I know I'm not going to pick up on everything but here goes...

Hi Jude! :wave2: Looks like you are off to a great start! It is tough adjusting to fall, especially when you know that long, cold winter is right around the corner.

I had a disappointment at my race on Sunday and had to DNF (did not finish) at mile 9 due to illness. :sad: I was having a great race until I had problems with dizziness. Apparently it was a problem with the beta blocker I take for blood pressure. It was disappointing to not finish but probably a blessing in disguise as I would much rather have a problem at a local race than have this happen to me in a few weeks at the Wine & Dine. I'm cleared to run again and ready to rock n' roll. :rockband:

Kudos to all of us for sticking with this healthy lifestyle thing and working on our dreams! :goodvibes

Dear Losers,

I am so terribly sorry I have been gone for 24 hours now. I hate feeling like I'm leaving you all out in the cold. It's certainly not at all what I want to have happen or what I want to make any of you feel like. Please accept my apology and please excuse my huge coaching lapse!

Don't sweat it! We're just glad you're okay! :hug:

QOTD 9/20- Is this a strategy you think you could use in your daily life? Do you think you could utilize it without going overboard? Would you be willing to give it a shot?

I use it all the time! Since I can't give up chocolate entirely, I keep Hershey Kisses on hand for when I need a little something. I usually have 3, which is 60 calories, and I let them melt in my mouth instead of chewing them so that they last longer and satisfy the craving.

Sometimes, I do still crave some McDonalds when I'm out with my friends, but I'll eat something healthy at home beforehand and just get a small fry which is 230 calories and I'll get that maybe once every 3 months.

Bonus QOTD!!!! What is YOUR favorite country in the World Showcase? What do you like about it??

I have three favorites; Japan for the shopping and candy making, Canada for Off Kilter (Love their music!!) and United Kingdom for the World Showcase Players. Grail Grail Grail!!

Ladies and gentlemen, it's be so much fun being your coach for the week, and I am so sorry I disappeared today. I hope I can make up for it next time around :blush:

Thanks for coaching! :flower3:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Long night last night....
Due to circumstances beyond my control, I ended up having to have dinner last night at Sonic's. And while I didn't make too bad of a meal choice over there, my stomach rejected it all the same and I spent most of the night with a sour stomach... So I think a nap will be in order for this afternoon.
Tried out some different machines last night for my workout and really feeling it this morning, but I am down a pound so hopefully it'll stay off until tomorrow. :thumbsup2 In the meantime, it's chores and projects today. I've got the house vacuumed and dusted, my laundry in the dryer (it's dry, I just don't feel like folding it), and cleaned my bedroom ceiling fan. I can't believe how dirty they get!
My muffler on my car has finally rusted out so Ddad has been working on that for me today. We also just discovered a termite trail this morning in the house so we're working on taking care of that too...
But it's time for lunch and I've made tuna salad sandwiches so I'm digging in!
Have a good Thursday!
Hello everyone! I'm still here but struggling. I'm finding it super hard to get into a mode of tracking and checking in here. It's so weird. I'm vowing right now to check in here again tomorrow morning! My workouts have been going ok (2-3x week with my trainer) and I even did a half marathon I wasn't planning on this past Sunday (I registered two days before). It was super small (only 150 people ran it) and I finished next to last in 3 hours 14 minutes, but I finished! Now if I could just get used to tracking my WW points again I'd be set. We are leaving early Sunday for the Dream and after the cruise will be in Orlando until Oct 7 doing Disney, Universal, and the ToT 10 miler and after party and MNSSHP. I was really hoping to lose a few lbs between the start of this challenge and my trip to deflect what I feel will be unavoidable splurging.
Does anyone have any tips to not gain 10 lbs while at Disney?
Thanks everyone! I'll be back in the morning- I will!
M
My main tip is a very healthy breakfast. Once or twice a trip we will have a splurge breakfast, but for the most part will have a Lara bar, or cereal and fruit, sometimes oatmeal. The rest of the day, I eat what I like, but watch for being full. I will be conscious not to stuff myself. It sounds like you plan to stay active - but that's my other tip. Have a great time! Oh, and congrats on the half marathon!
Hi, teammate! Hope you had a fabulous cruise and that your vacation weight is swift to come off!
Eating was going well yesterday until I popped a few breakfast cookies in my mouth late last night. I know it was a stress response, but still not a good idea. I realized when I journaled them that I had eaten MORE THAN HALF of my day's calories after 6pm yesterday! Not good!!
Anyhow.... need some words of wisdom about a situation. I'll try to be brief. This past spring our YMCA fired our swim coach. It was very unexpected and DD was very upset. But our part-time/semi-volunteer dad/coach offered to become the full-time coach for the summer, which worked out pretty well until the end of the summer. We did have a few families leave at that point, but not many.
Some "things" happened while he was at Y Nationals with our small group and it made some people (3 of the 4 swimmers that were at Y Nats) decide to leave the team, and of course, inevitably some other folks left with them. THis really disheartened my DD, as these were mostly her closest swim friends. But she decided, despite all of this, that her heart belongs to this team where she has been for over 8 years, and that she would stay and make the best of her remaining year with the team. Meanwhile this now-full-time/semi-volunteer dad/coach had decided to step back down to just a part-time position and the Y would hire a new head coach (plus 2-3 part time coaches, as we lost several for a few reasons over the summer [back to college, back to their own country, etc]). A full-time coach was allegedly ready to sign on as of our parent's meeting a few weeks ago.
Well, last night DD called me sobbing from the locker room. The part-time/semi-volunteer dad/coach who she really liked, is now leaving the team. It seems to be partly a personal decision and partly a Y decision. Not really clear on that. And the "nearly hired" fulll-time coach is not taking the position. And the two part-time young ladies that were hired to coach have ZERO coaching experience and only one has any real swim experience!
DD came home last night with the word that 3 of the other 4 kids in her age group are now making the decision to leave the team. That includes one of her swim "best friends". It leaves DD and one other senior girl. There are a few other kids in the high school age range, but it is apparent that several of them are also seeking new teams or at least talking about it.
I'm really leaving the decision to stay or go to another team with DD, but I'm not sure how to advise her. IT really feels like she will be ALONE if she stays with her team. But what is more important, the team or the friends? She understands she will still have these friends, but she won't see them, won't swim with them, etc. Plus she is going into her SENIOR YEAR of swim (this is club swim, not her high school team) basically without any peers on the team and without a coach.
Anyhow..... it is just making me sick. There is a parents meeting scheduled at the Y for Monday night and I'm not sure how that will go. I foresee a lot of yelling at the Y from parents for a lot of bad decisions that were made on behalf of the team. Or maybe it has gotten so bad that parents just won't attend.... they will just pull their kids from the team for lack of coaching staff and be done.
Her Senior Year wasn't supposed to go like this! It was supposed to be fun and exciting and the best year of her life. So far it has just been full of aggravation and disappointment and tears.
......
Loved last night's SURVIVOR! I love that show and am always excited about its return! And Amazing Race starts in a little more than a week! I'm not a big television addict, but I do love those shows!
Breakfast is needed! TTYL.............P
I have never watched Amazing Race, but I think we'll have to add that to our Tivo. DH and I are always looking for shows we can watch together.
As for the swim team...hmm...I wish I had some sage advice for you and your DD. Is it a viable option for her to join her friends? I know she feels loyal to the Y team, but it sounds like there is basically nothing left to that program. In 5 years, when DD looks back on her senior year of swimming, what will she wish she did and what would she regret?
pjilla, we probably could postpone our move, but we're living with my parents. While they've been so wonderful to let us stay here while our house is being built, we've been here since May and I think everyone is ready for their own space. Well at least you won't have to move all at once. It's nice to be able to get settled. Hope it goes smoothly for you!
Thanks for coaching! I'm glad you got your Internet back and are safe from the storms now!
I am excited that you picked France! DD goes to a French school, so it made me smile. :goodvibes
I think I use the French women eating method pretty well. I don't overly limit my food options and do pretty well with portion control. I should incorporate more of the healthy fats, more of the Mediterranean diet.
As for the bonus QOTD, I'm not sure I can choose just one. I love the UK for Strongbow Cider, Japan for the store, France for the overall look and architecture, Morocco for the unique (to us) flair.
I had a disappointment at my race on Sunday and had to DNF (did not finish) at mile 9 due to illness. :sad: I was having a great race until I had problems with dizziness. I'm sorry to hear about your race. But it sounds like you have a great attitude about it. And you are so right that it's better to happen now than at Disney!
In this case the "kid" is almost 25. Love her so much and this is not how I want things.......
It doesn't matter what their age.... they are still our kids and can still push our buttons, make us crazy, cause us to worry, etc.
Remember my community bowl rule! Not everyone washes their hands after the potty! Stay out of the toilet bowl of candy!
Oh no! So sorry you had a DNF. But you beat me who had a DNS! I'm always proud of you! Glad you got the situation figured out and you are ready for the next race!
Thanks for coaching! :flower3:
FIngers crossed for the pound to stay gone!
I have never watched Amazing Race, but I think we'll have to add that to our Tivo. DH and I are always looking for shows we can watch together.
It is a show that we watch together as a family. It is pretty fun.... some family bickering occasionally, but not bad. I just love seeing all of the places they visit!
As for the swim team...hmm...I wish I had some sage advice for you and your DD. Is it a viable option for her to join her friends? I know she feels loyal to the Y team, but it sounds like there is basically nothing left to that program. In 5 years, when DD looks back on her senior year of swimming, what will she wish she did and what would she regret?
Good question. I'll have to have her give it some thought. DH and I have told her that we will FULLY support her, no matter what decision she makes.... but it is HER decision.
**********
Evening all! I have just a minute before I have to head out to the high school open house.
After spending a good portion of the day cooking and wrapping lots of treats for the bake sale, DD came home and told me that the team never got permission to have the sale, so it is a no go. I put most of the treats directly into the freezer to save for the next bake sale.... all except the RK treats. They don't freeze, so I'll dole them out for treats over the next few days.... and I'm SURE I'll have to plan one into my menu too! YUM! Lots of sugar and white carbs, but not too bad for you other than that! :thumbsup2
Got a few more coats of paint on different areas around the house, got two loads of laundry washed, hung out, and taken in (not folded yet), and a few other misc. chores, so it was a good day overall.
DD and I are talking about going to visit a college or two tomorrow, since the kids have no school. Not sure yet where we are going, but I may possibly not be online tomorrow. HOpe everyone has a SUPERB weigh-in!........P
It's been a good (but rough eating-wise) morning and afternoon. I haven't really been counting my calories, but haven't been -over-eating, just eating the wrong things. My little sisters and her two boys were here, and it's my dad's birthday this weekend, but he'll be out of town, so we were doing a little celebrating (with a light, home-made cheesecake, chili rellano, chips & guacamole, etc.) at lunch. Like I said, good, but I'm not sure where I am after all those "bites." I just need to keep it simple and lo-cal for dinner and hope for the best, I guess. Drink extra water! I'm glad that my parents are trying to be healthy (we're living with them for a few months) otherwise I know I would have a harder time being successful. My dad has lost 17% of his body weight in the last year, and is eating better and exercising more than I thought I would ever see! For him it has been a lifestyle change - he's one who has always loved to eat, and piled on the cheese, butter and desserts. He has almost completely given up cheese and butter, and is very careful with desserts now. He's even started counting his calories. I'm still blown away by his dedication and success, and it makes me want to work harder. He now weighs about what I did at the beginning of the year (he's down to 190) which should be a little bit of a wake-up call by itself, especially since I'm 25 years younger than him and 5-6 inches shorter... Hoping for a good rest of the day. Hoping and praying for lots of will power over the weekend, too!
Remember my community bowl rule! Not everyone washes their hands after the potty! Stay out of the toilet bowl of candy!
This is great. That's all.
One of the books I want to read is "French Women Don't Get Fat." It sounds like a crazy title, but the premise of the book is pretty simple- French women are able to keep healthy weights and healthy lifestyles, is instead of denying themselves the tasty things they crave, they allow themselves to have a small portion and are satisfied. Even with all the cheese, wine, cream, and chocolate usually found in their foods!!
QOTD 9/20- Is this a strategy you think you could use in your daily life? Do you think you could utilize it without going overboard? Would you be willing to give it a shot?
Bonus QOTD!!!! What is YOUR favorite country in the World Showcase? What do you like about it??
Ladies and gentlemen, it's be so much fun being your coach for the week, and I am so sorry I disappeared today. I hope I can make up for it next time around :blush:
Thanks for coaching :)
This strategy is hit or miss for me. Some days, I can have a small portion of something and feel satisfied. Other days, one bite and the next thing I know I eat 5 times as much and don't even remember! So, I try hard to not deprive myself, but it doesn't always work.
My favorite country is...all of them! I absolutely love WS. I love talking to the CMs in each country, all the fun things, and the food/drinks. I don't think I could pick just one.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Pamela~I'm so sorry for your DD. That has to be so tough on her. I know she's a great swimmer, so I think she should swim where she can be the most successful. Also, I know she does relays and it sounds like with the Y team, that could be an issue of not enough girls for a relay. I'm sure no matter what she decides, her senior year will be awesome.

Happy almost Friday/weekend :)

DH has this weekend off of work and this is his only weekend off of 2012, so we are trying to find something fun to do. Apparently we should have planned better since the kennel doesn't have room for our fur baby, so we will have to do some smaller things insead of a weekend getaway. I think we'll see Finding Nemo in 3d tomorrow. Saturday, we are thinking of heading to the National Aviary in Pittsburgh and then to the science center or Pitt game depending on weather. I am also hoping to hit up IKEA, but DH didn't seem too thrilled with that :lmao: We were hoping to get to a corn maze, but we have a good chance of rain and corn maze+rain just doesn't sound fun to me!

I'm off to get ready for bed and relax a bit. I'm hoping to be able to check in this weekend, but I may have limited time. Good luck to everyone on weigh ins.

Jill

Lisah0711 Thank you so much for the encouragement! It means a lot to me! Yes- traveling with a big family does have it's advantages- someone will always eat the other half of pretty much anything!

I am taking your advice and will plan on just hitting the ground running with checking in here and tracking when I get back on October 8.

Thanks!

Fly by post. Am about a dozen pages behind. Looking forward to the weekend when i can just relax and find out what ya'll have been up to! Not looking forward to tomorrow's weigh in. I fear it will be ugly. In good news ds1 went off to college and seems to be doing just fine. As is the rest of the family. It's weird. Quiet is nice, though!

Good Friday morning

I will be your coach this week. Thanks JacksLilWench for being our coach this week.

I have not been on this thread too much because I just started back to school the same time it started. Now I have been teaching for 35 years you would think I would have it down by now but NO they had to change things up. We went from teaching 5 classes of 48 minutes to 6 classes of 80 minutes. Some schools take a year or two to train their teachers for a move like this. Not my school. We found out about it in May and we started in Sept with 1 day at the end of last year and 2 days at the beginning of this year. To say we have been fumbling in the dark is an understatement.

Question of the Day

P1000815.jpg

I recently stayed at DW for 8 days. We stayed at All Star Music and then moved to BLT with a MK view. While we were there we got to see the MSEL Parade. We saw this on our honeymoon so it has a special meaning for us. It is my favorite parade. What is yours?

Off to get breakfast.

Have a happy and healthy day.

QOTD My favorite parade is Spectromagic. The music is so beautiful. I'm sad we won't get to see it when we go next month, but I've never see MSEP so that will be something new. My second favorite it the Boo to You parade. I wish we could go to the party but it's gotten so expensive. My daughter is still scared of some of the villans so I'm not even sure she would enjoy it. But I love that parade. That song will be stuck in my head all day.

I'm down a pound this week. I want to lose at least another pound before our trip which I should be able to do in two weeks. I don't know why, but I just like the idea of being in the 120s when we go on our trip.

This weekend will be spent hanging and tagging items for a consignment sale. If everything sells I should make around $300, which would be really nice right now. I'm excited to go shopping at the sale too. It's always fun and my kids need jeans and shoes so hopefully I find some good deals.

I'm also going to an auction for the first time. I don't know if I'll buy anything because this lady has tons of antiques so it will be really crowded and I don't want to spend much. I'm hoping to get some things for the new house. I may go furniture shopping this weekend too. And start some packing for Disney. And make an appointment for a pedicure before we go. So I'm going to have a busy weekend. I may not be around much, but if not I'll see you guys monday. Have a good weekend everyone! And good luck on the weign-in.

Happy friday friends.. I have been MIA as i came down with a sinus infection on Monday Night and was out of work Tues, Wed, and Thurs, and have no internet at home and too lazy to look on my iphone.. Even with that I stayed on track with my WW points and managed to lose 1/2 lb this week

Congrats to the top 10 losers and Christopher for being #1 !! Way to go!

thanks to JacksLilWench for being our Coach last week - the WS is one of my fave spots to be in all of Disney!
Hello Dona thanks for coaching this week..

My Fave Parade was Tapestry of Dreams/Nations around the World Showcase in Epcot --- OMG loved that parade with all it's wild floats and costumes.. I loved that my kids got to write their dreams down and put in a dreamcatchers net oh so long ago when they were little!

I'll be back at lunch time to check in again.. Michelle

My favorite parade is the Halloween parade from MNSSHP :) Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, and I was able to go to the Halloween party last year. It was definitely my favorite!

I recently stayed at DW for 8 days. We stayed at All Star Music and then moved to BLT with a MK view. While we were there we got to see the MSEL Parade. We saw this on our honeymoon so it has a special meaning for us. It is my favorite parade. What is yours?

The MSEL Parade is my favorite as well. I was so sad when it left DL and moved to WDW. :sad: I have not really watched any of the new parades at DL with the exception on Soundsational which I thought was ok, and it was cute to watch the little kids dancing around to all the music.

I do not even want to weigh in this week as it has been horrible food wise. Yesterday I did some major stress eating and was eating everything that I could get my hands on. I have my plan in place for today though so I can get back on track. Hope that everyone has a great WI and an amazing friday!!

Happy Friday everyone!!!!! Hope you all have some wonderful plans for the weekend whether it is curling up with that long waiting book, long walk to enjoy the beginning of fall, a festival perhaps, or just "you" time! The weather here in the Northeast is definitely starting to have that fall feel to it and the festivals are running one on top of the other. Loads of fun but also serious danger territory with the foods! I'm good this weekend but next weekend is the Grape Festival in Naples, NY and they have this regional dessert....Grape Pie.....that is just to die for! It's a once a year treat so I know I'm going to have to put in a few extra miles of walking/running to make up for that splurge! lol

As far as the QOTD, for us the parades are more like a "if we happen to be there" types of things. We don't plan for them at all. Part of it is because of how ugly people can get around parade time with fighting over spots, etc. If we see it, great...if not, no big deal. We travel by ourselves now so no little ones to make a fuss over. :thumbsup2

QOTD: I love the MSEP and if I'm at MK- I can't miss it. I say this having only seen it twice-- and for the first time on this last trip! I have some pics from June here as well as some other Disney pics if you'd like to look :)
