~ BIGGEST LOSER ~ 9 ~ COUPLES ~ SPOILERS welcome!!!

I loved the bike challenge. I thought it was 100% better then the running thing.

I think the two couples that got sent home are at a HUGE advantgage. I think they will get more one on one time with the trainers, I think that will make a huge impact

They said they were going to help them but how are they going to be at the ranch and in these peoples home town that much in the first month. :confused3

I too like this challange better then the running, but biking is hard if you are not used to it. And those little seats , ouch.

Man that younger green team kiddo was a monster on that bike! Reminded me of the green team girl who won everything two seasons ago.

I was not happy they sent two teams home so soon. Very cruel.

I like Mike and the orange kid with the curly hair (I bet he'll be a cutie when he slims down!)

What's up with all these weird names?? MIGGY?? Sunshine? O'Neal??

Does the pink team this year remind anyone else of the Shannon/Helen pink team? My DD and I just kept having visions of them everytime they showed the pink (looks wise, not personality wise).

I thought the exact same thing. The daughter looks just like Shannon

So bummed I missed it. We just moved and the DVR wasn't set for stupid Central time. Oh well. Maybe I will catch it online or on a repeat.

It's on Fri and Sat. on FLN

LOL...my husband and I were just saying the same thing.

Mixed feelings about the show...thought the humiliation of the public weigh-ins to be more than a little cruel, as was sending two teams home right off the bat. I'm rooting for O'Neal and Sunshine (yellow team) to make it back on the ranch.

Seems like a good group so far. Mike and his mom (white team), the Tongan boys (gray team) and the mother/daughter green team are my early favorites. Still way too early to tell who will be the 'evil' one... *wink wink*

PS - note to remaining brown team member: please, please, please shave your neck.

Sincerely,

Me

Yes. I said the same thing. It's so gross looking

She didn't win, she was just in the final 3.

I do not have a favorite as of yet BUT if you think about it 5 people went home. I realize the Blue and Yellow teams are coming back in 30 days....but still that is allot of contestants to leave in the first epi.

I was thrilled to see all the weight JAMES had lost!! :thumbsup2

**Watched Jillian on Jay Leno and her dress was lovely but wayyyyy tooooo tight. She looked like she could barely bend her body to sit down. I thought she looked fab though. Her hair was styled so nicely. I wish that she would dress like that for the BL FINALE's....she always seems to appear at the Finale like she just finished a run as well as a stop off at the supermarket and then says...."oh, I have to get to the Finale"....JMHO! :lmao:

BTW, was anyone else surprised that Jillian had been chunky as a teen? 175 lbs at 5'1" is a BMI of 33 and officially obese :scared1:. I had no idea that she had been obese!

She has actually mentioned it a few times on the show.

"Biggest Loser": Player sets weigh-in record
Season 9 ‘Couples’ edition premiere sends home five contestants

Just in time to make you feel guilty about gorging on all those cookies over the holidays, NBC’s “The Biggest Loser: Couples” edition is back with its ninth season. And when they say this is the biggest season yet, they mean it. Among the two-person teams competing for the $250,000 cash prize are five players who each tip the scales at over 400 lbs. This season also boasts the heaviest person ever to compete, Michael from Chicago, who initially weighed in at a whopping 526 lbs., and a pair of twins who together weigh slightly less than a ton!

But before the contestants even arrived at the ranch, where the best of them would be living, working out and weighing in for the duration of the season, they were presented with an embarrassing challenge. Instead of doing their first weigh-in at the ranch, the season 9 contestants would be standing shirtless (or wearing a sports bra) at a public hometown weigh-in before their friends, family and community. Watching some of them standing on the scale, so vulnerable and exposed, with tears of humiliation running down their faces, was heartbreaking, but you had to admire their courage.

Of course, after they arrived at the ranch, it didn’t get much easier. Greeted by host Alison Sweeney (“She’s hot,” the Red team’s Lance pronounced to his good-natured wife Melissa), they discovered that they would be doing their first challenge immediately. Each team was required to ride two stationary bicycles the length of a marathon − 26.2 miles. The first team to finish would win immunity, and the last two would be sent home immediately.

Although the challenge didn’t seem as difficult as the mile-long beach race that hospitalized two contestants in the first episode of last season, one bicycle rider, Cherita, a 50-year-old mom from Texas, did require medical attention and was eliminated. The Green team’s mother-daughter duo, Migdalia and Miggy, impressed everyone by claiming first place and winning immunity. Cousins Sam and Koli also proved that they will be a team to watch by coming in second.

The last two to finish were Blue team’s overcome Cherita and daughter Vicky, and Yellow’s father-daughter O’Neal and Sunshine. But on their way out, trainers Jillian Michaels and Bob Harper promised to work with them at home and bring them back in 30 days. The Blue and Yellow teams will then face off and the team who does the best at home will be invited back.

The trainers, who are working together this season, had high expectations for the remaining contestants too. As “Biggest Loser” viewers have come to expect, the “last chance” workout for the season 9 crew was a blur of running, lifting and sweating along with a high quotient of tears, screams and vomiting. Though Jillian had called the task of whipping this season’s challengers into shape “daunting,” she and Bob managed to achieve big results.

During the episode’s final weigh-in, Patti, of the Purple team, lost an astounding 23 lbs., the most any woman has ever lost on the show in one week. Not to be outdone, Michael, the show’s heaviest contestant, lost 34 lbs. In the end, the Brown team’s twins John and James fell below the yellow line. The other players sent James, whose bad knee kept him limited to pool workouts, home.

I was sad they sent 2 couples home immediately. I'm rooting for Yellow to come back!

I was shocked that Brown was up for elimination. Two such big guys and only 23 pounds each? As far as elimination goes, the other teams voted with their hearts, not their heads. I was THRILLED to see how well James had done at home.

As far as favorites go... I really like Mike.... I want to like Ashley (pink) but they didn't really show too much about her..... As of last night, Mike is my fave.

I think Green might turn out to be the "bad guys" that Mom is WAY competetive and they were the only team that voted with their heads not hearts.

Isn't it funny that we say ONLY 23 lbs in one week for BL contestants? What we said in my house is it's amazing that they lost 23 lbs each and still had to eliminate one person. Any other season they would have been near the top of the pack.

I usually avoid this thread until after I watch the show...so keep a talking...I love seeing everybody's opinions...and I am with everybody else I think I want yellow to be the one's back....I was mad at the producers for pulling such a stunt but it might be a blessing for those 2 teams as both Bob and Jillian said they would be spending ONE on ONE time with them over the next 30 days....imagine having that time without the other contestants.

I know...ONLY 23 pounds! LOL :rotfl2:

Why do I have a feeling we are going to have to endure a *surprise* visit from Felipe and Sione this season?:scared:

I KNOW! I'm hoping not because they have been my least favorite the last few seasons.

PS - note to remaining brown team member: please, please, please shave your neck.

OMG it was driving me batty!! They looked like werewolves!

Does the pink team this year remind anyone else of the Shannon/Helen pink team? My DD and I just kept having visions of them everytime they showed the pink (looks wise, not personality wise).

Me too, that flip of the hair reminds me so much of Shannon.

Missed the first half.:headache:

So why did they send 2 teams homes? What was the point of that? Is it because there is not enough room in the house or something?

Looks like an interesting group this season. So did anyone spot a crazy person yet?:lmao:

BL doesn't seem to be about helping people anymore but rather making money hand over fist.

Why was it necessary to publicly humiliate the contestants? What purpose did it serve? These people know that they're fat,the people they surround themselves with know they're fat...What was gained by making them do that? It disgusted me to see them treated like that just because BL can get away with it.

As for 2 teams going day 1...Why even bother having brought them on in the first place. Yeah one team is going to come back but big whoop. They lose out on 30 days of what they need which is structure. And what about the other team who doesn't come back?

Today on the Discovery Health channel they will be airing Erik's story (season 3 winner)--In the commercials he and his wife rail against BL.

Watch the show...there wasn't much railing.

I don't understand the big deal about the public weigh in. They are all going on a NATIONAL TELEVISION SHOW. A show that every person who saw them weigh in will likely watch...including moments far more embarassing than the first weigh-in. It wasn't a public humiliation any more than going on the show in the first place is.

What upset me, was sending two teams home without so much as a how-do-you-do. THAT was cruel.

As for the first challenge. I imagine that will likely be the final challenge too. Either biking a marathon or some sort of IRON MAN challenge. BTW, the teams had to cycle 26.2 miles but not together. Each cyclist was tabulating their own miles towards the common goal of 26.2 (or theoretically, they each had to bike a 1/2 marathon).

it is pretty tacky to rail against the people whose money you took, and to say you'd show on the next finale. Now that seems like a money grub from dhealth.

have it taping. posted while jennasis was posting.

Thanks for posting about the Show. I had not heard about it! I have my TIVO set!

As far as your other comments, though... I disagree. These people are putting themselves "out there" when they agree to be on a reality show.

Also, I think sending people home early - especially when they come back after being successful with their weight loss at home - is HUGE motivation for the thousands of overweight people sitting at home thinking they can't do it (lose weight) because they aren't at the ranch.

I have to quote this part:

To get on a bike and ride 26.2 miles when you are that big is so uncomfortable, plus you most likely haven’t worked out in ages! PLUS, if you win, that’s great, you get immunity, but if you come in last and second-to-last, you go home. Well that just stinks like dirty socks worn three days in a row! That is a TON of pressure because you just weighed yourself in front of your entire family and you pledged to come back different, but then you come back 24 hours later and no different!

THAT'S her name! Tara...thanks! It was driving me bonkers.
