Whoo hoo!!!!:cool1::banana::cool1::banana::cool1:
Nice work everyone!! Congrats iluvtig2 for being number one!!!!

Hey, 19 losses out of 24 weighins is pretty awesome for december!! Great job everyone!!

Thanks Shannon!:flower3:

just a quick post all about me... just got off the phone w/my doc and NO WONDER I'm so tired...my thyroid is low, my calcium is low, my vitamin is low!:headache: So all my meds are upped and I will hopefully be feeling better in a few weeks. The very good news is that my thryoglobulin (sp?) is also low, so no return of cancer.:woohoo:

Don't have any more time today to talk. Lots to do. Dh is having hernia surgery tomorrow so we have some things to do. He won't have the surgery until the afternoon. He doesn't have to be there until 11:30. They told him that I don't have to stay the approx imately 4 hours that I can go home and they will call me when he is ready to be picked up. I am not sure about this but it does give me some time to get some things done at home for Christmas.

Prayers for your husband's quick recovery after surgery. Make use of those four hours and you won't be sitting at home worrying! Keep busy!

Your body will probably appreciate the break - time to repair and renew. You'll be stronger and faster this week for it. You don't lose any conditioning in just a few days, so don't worry!

As for the scale, it's got to be phantom weight - it's not highly unlikely to impossible for you to have taken in three pounds worth of calories in just a few days. It will be gone before you know it.

Thanks for your kind words. I really needed it right now. And I suppose a two day break from exercise isn't a terrible thing!

WOOHOO and WTG on the good news!:cool1::dance3::cheer2: The thyroid, calcium, and vitamin problems I'm sure can be taken care of fairly easily. Glad you discovered the reason behind your lack of energy. By Jan 1 you should be feeling much better!

Good snowy morning to my friends! We have already got about 5-6 inches on the ground and it is coming down heavily. We are, of course, home with a snow day today. Not such a bad thing! We really needed the break... we have all been RIGHT OUT STRAIGHT lately with work, school, sports, and robotics. This is definitely a BONUS DAY!

Thanks so much to ALL of you who came on with some encouraging words after my true confessions moment yesterday. I decided to use all of this frustration and channel into something positive, so guess what I did last night? I ran 5K on the treadmill at the Y!! I have NEVER EVER run that distance before in my life! In fact... most of my running has been run three minutes, walk three minutes, run three minutes, etc. But I ran a bit (1.61 mi) on Monday night and I was surprised at how easy it seemed to be.... so I figured I had a bit more in me and decided to attempt 5K last night and I did it. What a HUGE feeling of accomplishment when I was done! And DD was there to give me a high five. I'm sure it wasn't exactly a record-breaking pace, but as I've never done it before, I wasn't sure what to expect. I finished in 39 min 53 sec. I started slowly for the first few minutes (started at 4.0 mph and increased to 4.6 and finally up to 4.8 for the majority of the run). Maybe those of you who run this regularly can tell me if that time is decent or just SLOW! But I won't be discouraged, no matter what you tell me. I'm just THRILLED with myself for having done it!

I was stiff and a bit sore this morning, because I probably didn't stretch properly after the run... so I just did hills on the TM at home this morning. I'll try the 5K again later this week at the Y... their treadmill is more heavy duty than mine at home.

I have missed SO many QOTD lately that I won't even attempt to catch up. And I didn't really watch much of this season's BL, so I can't comment on yesterday's QOTD.

In response to what someone asked.... I will DEFINITELY be coming back to the WISH boards during our BL break. If this thread gets closed, then I will start an "in-between" thread if someone else doesn't! I need my DISboard WISH friends! (Or, as DD calls them "Mom's imaginary friends!") You all are a HUGE source of friendship and encouragement for me.... and I am truly thankful for all of you!

I'm off to make the best use of my "bonus day". I'm going to put the finishing touches on my Christmas cards and hopefully they will be on the mail tomorrow!....................P

I should have known you guys would be on top of the "gap" in BL...I think I got discouraged last night because I was all fired up, and felt like I wasn't going anywhere -- but as you point out, we still have over a week of the Challenge left, and then a very short break -- I can do it!

Thanks so much to the current coach and upcoming daily coaches -- it really helps to know at least one person is listening (and usually more 'cause we're just that kind of people!).

Let's finish strong!
Maria :upsidedow

Wow... I finally have a day to be on here, and everyone is gone! You must all be out shoveling snow! DS did a bit of snowblowing for me before lunch, but it is still snowing, so there is plenty left for me. I'm going to head out in the next hour, before it gets dark.. and it does appear that the snow is slowing down.

Still not sure if DD will have swim practice tonight. Gotta check the email. Good news.... I finished the Christmas cards! The kids are signing them right now and I will print the address labels and get them out tomorrow! Woohoo!.....P

Just checked.... no swim practice!! WOOHOO! (for me) and :( for DD.

Maybe those of you who run this regularly can tell me if that time is decent or just SLOW! But I won't be discouraged, no matter what you tell me. I'm just THRILLED with myself for having done it!

Congratulations on finishing a 5K run! That's fantastic! I am here to say this: Do not even worry about the time! You have accomplished something major that most people would not even begin.

There is a wide range of times that people complete a 5K within. Some people....anything over 20 minutes is slow. Others are pleased to finish under an hour. It really just depends. In a large event-type race, you'd be solidly in the middle of the pack. In a smaller, more competitive race, you'd be closer to the back, but almost certainly not last.

For a point of reference, I ran my first 5K in about 39 minutes 2 1/2 years ago. My last 5K was 30:08, which is not considered "fast" by the really fast people. ;) It's OK, though. I've managed to improve a lot with practice and time!

Maria - Of course you can do it! If you could fall down in the middle of the half marathon, pick yourself up and then finish that, you can definitely get through these next couple of weeks!

jennz - that sounds like a lot of reason to be tired! Take good care these next few weeks. I hope you feel better very soon!

The kids are home from school today. I'm supposed to be doing an ad for my DH's business for the local newspaper - he asked me on Monday and it is due today, but because of the snow day, I keep getting distracted by the kids and their needs/demands/complaints.

Hope everyone is safe and warm!

Hi everyone. I think I posted yesterday afternoon but so much has happened in the last 24 hours that I don't know which way is up.

First off Congrats jenn on the good news.

Maria I am going to be here I need all the help I can get.

pjilla congrats on running a 5k. That is quite an accomplishment.

for anyone who is shoveling snow please be careful and don't hurt your back.

Dh's surgery went fine. He is fine and the drugs have just started to kick in so he is up and walking. He was worried about the basement which flooded in the storm this morning before he had to go for surgery.

the surgical center was wonderful. He went in there at 11:25 and at 11:30 they called him into the back. At 2 I got a call that he was done and almost ready to come home. I had gone home and done some shopping on line, had lunch and went back about 1:30. They released him about 2:30 and we went and got him something to eat and he was sitting in the family room couch by 2:50.

Last night we got a call from ds2. He needs a passport. We were supposed to get it this summer just in case he needed it. We weren't too worried about because where was he going to go. Well he has been asked to go with a group from his college to Gambia Africa (yes I said Africa). He is an engineering major and they have a very active Engineers Without Borders chapter at his school. (Last month he went to a conference in Boston). So now we are scrambling to get his passport and figuring out which shots to get and to find a doctor who can give them to him. He just left school so he can come home and we can get the passport application settled. He was led to a company that expidites passports and he wants to get the paperwork to them tomorrow. Tomorrow I call my doctor.

Well I better get some dinner and then off to the local high school to measure costumes for the spring musical "Gypsy"

Congrats to all the winnners this week.

I've been keeping up with all of you news, successes and QOTD's.
donac - I'm happy to hear of the excellent care your DH received and that he's ok

pjlla- 5K - I can only dream:cheer2:

jennz- great about your medical tests- You mentioned a Christian workout mix, if you can find the name I'd like to get that for the TM

I was worrying all week about the major storm, we drive 30mins to the nearest town, but it's been and mostly gone. It all happened overnight and early this morning. Dsis fed the horses while I avoided the gale force winds! Easterly winds are bitter here!

I've been bummed since stalling on my weight loss and gaining back 3 lbs?:confused3 No help on the 500lbs total.
Next BL I hope to do better.
I feel as though I've been eating really well but we did have a cider last night, Dsis bought us a "big screen" TV for Christmas- my TV was 24 years old and still going great-I wonder if this one will last 24 years:happytv:
We only watch movies now, no network shows, and we get satellite way out here(some 300 channels and nothing on)
I don't watch BL on TV, maybe I should:goodvibes

Popping on while the kids watch an episode of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse before we head off to DD's soccer game (indoor soccer :goodvibes )

pjlla - congrats on your 5K run!:cool1:

jennz - happy to hear you've got some answers on being tired :goodvibes and no return of cancer is fantastic

donac - glad to hear your day went well :goodvibes And how exciting for your son to be off to Africa!

mullysisters - have you tried journalling? I do know that when I don't record what I'm eating, I am really eating more than I think I am. Or maybe you've been eating not enough or something. Don't let it get you down :goodvibes

Good evening all!

Did 2 shoveling workouts. The 2nd was a lot more strenuous due to the rain on top of the snow! Also did the 2 and 3 mile WATP. Drinking my water. Should have at least a small loss this week. Trying not to let PMS take over. My parents should arrive sometime tomorrow so my workout routine will be changing and I won't be getting as much in as before. I do plan on taking at least an hour a day to do the elliptical I held off on getting back on today due to the fact I had lots of shoveling to do! As long as I keep my 20 pound loss clippie I will be happy!

Have a good night!

Got in my last early morning workout this morning for the next month. Parents arrive sometime today and they sleep in my workout room. Guess I'll get to sleep in for the next month! Did the 2 mile WATP. Plan on doing it 1 more time this morning. Need to vacuum and straighten up a bit more before they come. Planning on heading to the spa for a while today in case someone comes in. Doing a book fair at a daycare tonight from 4-6:30. Gotta figure out what to fix for everyone for dinner tonight. May just make a mac and cheese casserole today.
Time to really get moving now!
Later, Dis Friends!

Good morning all! :goodvibes

pjlla, congrats on running a 5K! That is a big accomplishment. Maybe there is some racing in your future . . .

donac, glad to hear that your DH came through his surgery and is doing well. That is exciting news about your son's trip to Africa.

We only watch movies now, no network shows, and we get satellite way out here (some 300 channels and nothing on) I don't watch BL on TV, maybe I should:goodvibes

Isn't that the truth?:lmao:

mullysisters, about your plateau. I've had long periods of plateaus, they aren't fun but they do pass. LuvBaloo's idea about journalling is a good one. Also, you may not be burning as many calories as you think you are.

tigger813, I bet your folks are going to notice all your hard work from all that exercising!

Don't forget to PM your weigh-in info to LuvBaloo and COW info to donac tomorrow. We have two more weigh ins to work on that group goal! :thumbsup2

Have a great day!

Good morning everyone.
I am feeling grateful that we got all rain after hearing about all the shovelling going on here. Hope everyone got shovelled out safely. I got cancelled from work today. My job is a variable hours position so I can be cancelled up to 8 hours a week but keep the same benefits. It protects the hospital during times of varied census, and luckily it doesn't happen very often, so I don't mind today. I did an hour on the wii fit and watched the today show, and I'm going to treat myself to a movie alone.:yay: I'm torn between New Moon, I loved the twilight books, and The Blind Side. they both start around 10:30, so I'll decide when I get there. Then I hope to get out and finish my christmas shopping, and get to the grocery store. I shopped on saturday, but with my son's party on sunday, I didn't buy enough food to last us the week.

donac- I'm so glad your husband's surgery went well. Sorry about the basement flooding. I get water in my basement with heavy rains, and it makes me so anxious. My sump pump is automatic, but when we're expecting a big storm, I always worry about the winds and losing power, and it drives me crazy. Hope everything in your house is ok.

Jenn- I'm so glad you have a reason for why you've been feeling so tired, and that's fabulous there is no return of cancer. What a relief for you.

Mullysisters- Hang in there and don't be too worried about the gain. It's a tough time of year, but if we just keep trying, even if we see a little gain or maintain, we are still making little healthier changes that will affect us. Enjoy your new tv. I bought a 32 in flat screen last summer, and got rid of my 18 year old 20 inch tv, and I love it. I just never felt justified buying a new tv when my old one worked just fine, but my poor brother just hated coming over her when a football game was on and trying to watch it on the little screen. I love that is takes up so little room on the stand too.

pjlla- Whoo hoo!! 5K is awesome and you should be proud!! :cool1:

Lisa- 8 days!!!! I'm so jealous. I just got the 2010 planning video in the mail yesterday, and I had requested info about disneyland, and was looking that over. Michael got so excited to see it. Think it's time to start planning.:rotfl:

Have a great day everyone.

Good Morning, Big Weight Losers!

I did my 5M on the TM this morning, and I'm happy to say that I almost stuck to my eating plan yesterday. I ended up trading fudge for jello mousse, but still...that was so much better than I've been doing! No Lindt balls or rolos passed my lips. I actually felt really good and light doing my run, and the scale went down for once, so I am back on the right track. I have 8M on Saturday, and I'm hoping for a good loss this week, to get me back to where I was before Thanksgiving. If I do, that will be my fastest "recovery" from a vacation ever, and it will also mean I haven't started down the slippery slide that is usually my December :rolleyes1

Tigger813 -- I know exactly what you mean ::yes::. My dad will be here to visit starting the 20th, and our guest area (it's actually an in-law), is where my TM lives. I can't really roust my dad out of there at 4:30 am, so after he arrives I have to either get my runs in during the day or after work, which is less than optimal. The only bright spot is I will have some days off, so I won't have to wait until dark to workout those days.

Dona -- So glad to hear dh's surgery went well, and what fantastic news about ds's trip! You are clearly a woman in motion these days :cool1:

Corinna -- Did you get that ad done? We haven't had a snow day yet, but I'm sure they'll be coming. I actually relish them, I take a sick day and consider it a bonus time off. :yay:

Pam -- Congrats on running the 5K! That is fantastic, and you should be very proud. When I started running in 2007, it was all I could do to manage a 15 minute mile. Now I'm up to 12:30, and the lighter I get, the faster I go. Everyone progresses at their own rate, my only caution is to not try to do too much too fast (or go too fast too much), so you avoid injury.

I hope everyone is doing well, and doing great with balancing at this time of year. That's my downfall...but I'm getting better!

Maria :upsidedow

Thanks for everyone who jumped in and has been responding and supporting each other since I've last been on. I didn't realize how crazy this week would be for me (DH is out of town, snow storm, busy at work), so I apologize that I've not been able to be on as much as I should and would like.

Congratulations to all of our losers and especially to our biggest loser, iluvtig2! :cheer2:

pjilla - congrats on your first 5k! I'm up to 2.25 miles and hopefully starting my 2.5 mile jogs this weekend. I've never thought of myself as a runner, but I love the feeling of accomplishment from completing a run. I don't think you're going too slowly for a new jogger/runner. I usually jog at 5.0 on the treadmill, but I'm working to get a little faster.

Tigger - I aspire to how much you work out! I'm also hoping for some loss, even if it's small, due to PMS. ;) Keep up the great work!

donac - speedy recovery to your DH!

Worfiedoodles - sounds like your on the right track. Hope you can get the loss you want tomorrow!

Belated Wednesday QOTD:Is there anyone that YOU'VE inspired to get healthy or lose weight?
I think I helped my DH. At the end of the day, he lost the weight and has maintained on his own, but I really nudged him to start. I try to continue making healthy eating choices for our meals.

Thursday QOTD: Do you have a non-weight related goal? (clothing size, fitness, etc)
Mine is to fit into a particular pair of pants I have. Once I fit into those, I'll be on the maintain track. ;) I'm also working towards being able to jog farther - first a 5k, and hopefully working up to a 1/2 marathon.

Have a great OP day! Get in a last chance workout and drink your water. We can do it! :yay:

Got in 1 mile on the elliptical and 30 minutes of free step plus my early morning 2 mile workout. Cleaned until about 12 and now just waiting with DD2 for my parents to arrive any minute now. Probably won't get in another workout today since I am doing a book fair tonight. Need to start drinking my water.

:yay:

I hope you enjoy whichever movie you pick. I also loved the Twilight books. I wasn't thrilled with the Twilight movie, and thought the New Moon movie was much better. ::yes::

I haven't inspired anybody to get healthy or lose weight. I have given my mom some new ideas for things to eat though, and DH is going along with the healthier eating. :goodvibes

I have a denim dress from 1995 that I'd like to be able to fit back into. I don't know if I ever will get that shape again since I've had 2 kids since then and the body is changed, but I'll get close, and its nice to have a goal :goodvibes

Maria - I DID finish the ad. It was quite a day, but it got finished and looks....well, if not like an A+ project, at least a passing grade. Next up: Biggest Loser 9 logo. :thumbsup2

Belated Wednesday QOTD:Is there anyone that YOU'VE inspired to get healthy or lose weight?

Oh man. 10 years ago, I inspired my mom and my now husband. We all used Deal-a-Meal, and my mom actually got the courage to pursue her now husband. In the intervening years, unfortunately, we all gained all the weight back and then some. :sad2:

As for now, I don't know. I have not exactly been out there proclaiming the joys of weight loss to the world. My DH has lost about 10 lbs this year. I don't think I can actually take the credit for inspiring him. That man has to decide for himself when and if he's going to do something.

Thursday QOTD: Do you have a non-weight related goal? (clothing size, fitness, etc)
I'm starting to think that these are the ones that really matter to me. A number on the scale seems so arbitrary, but the dress I wore to the rehearsal dinner for my wedding - that is concrete! I am now at the point where I can zip it, but it does not look quite right yet.

I would like to buy a pair of size 4 jeans and have them fit. Now, I know that the sizes have all shifted and a size 4 now is equivalent, roughly, to a 1992 size 8 and a size 6 is roughly equivalent to a 1992 size 10. How low can they go? I don't know.

And I want another sub-30 5K. It's such a small thing to ask for, but I haven't done a 5K since July, and I was 5 seconds too slow. It was a warm day and a hilly course. I know with the right conditions, I could really rock a 5K. This weekend, I'm doing a Jingle Bell 5K. If it's -2 again, well, I'm not going to be as fast. I'm hoping for above zero, no wind.

And finally, I really want muscles. Not big, burly ones, just mildly apparent ones. It's a vague sort of goal, I know.

Belated Wednesday QOTD:Is there anyone that YOU'VE inspired to get healthy or lose weight?

Not really. I don't think I'm very inspiring in these areas.

Thursday QOTD: Do you have a non-weight related goal? (clothing size, fitness, etc)

I want to wear a size that it not a double digit, but honestly, that seems like more of a dream than a realistic goal at this point. Then again, I've managed to shrink my bra size, so the rest of me can't be far behind! :rotfl: I think it is possible for the top half of me, the bottom is going to take much more work, and I am going to keep working and watch my sizes decrease as my weight goes down.
