Biggest Loser 8 Fall Challenge -- for losers and maintainers!

“Even if you are on the right track, you’ll get run over if you just sit there.”
-Will Rogers, found on SparkPeople
Love this quote, and it really hits home for me right now.
Friday QOTD: Do you have a Disney-related weight loss or fitness goal? If not, what is your main goal with this challenge (health, doing 100 sit ups, weight loss, etc)?
I didn't have one, but now I do. On my trip in 07 I was the thinnest i"ve been in at least 10 years, and I wore a pair of denim capris that I will wear on my next trip, hopefully next fall or winter.
Saturday QOTD: How do you make time in your day for exercise?
I try to get up early and do 30 min wii fit, or will do it in the evening amd watch the news, when I do it. I've been struggling lately, so I joined the exercise challenge. I had done that last year and did really well having a goal set of minutes each month.

I remember the getting ready for daycare days very well! Can you do some of your getting ready for daycare at night to shorten your morning routine? I do a week's worth of outfits for DS on Sunday and then he can just pick one each morning. I love those days he eats and school and now he packs his own lunch so I got out of that duty. We also had the "it's not my homework" talk at the beginning of the year so I don't do a thing with it unless I am asked to check work. We've all managed to survive and do what needs to be done. :rolleyes1
This year, I gave in and am letting Michael buy lunch every day. He loves to buy, and used to buy 2 days, but for an extra 9$ a week, it is so worth it to have one less thing to do in the mornings. But you just reminded me that I didn't send him any money today.:scared1: I'll get the little reminder note from the lunch lady. I blame it on the teacher workshop day yesterday, my routine is off.

Is it too late to join in this challenge if only for 2 weeks? We need to lose 100 lbs a peicce and could use all the help we can get, thanks.
Welcome aboard!! This is a great group of people and there is much support and inspiration.

Monday QOTD: What is your favorite workout you can do at home with minimal equipment?
I like the wii fit free step best lately. I'll set it for 30 min and watch the news usually, but will use 3 pound hand weights for 15-20 min too. The wii fit boxing is my second fav. I have several watp dvds that I had done before I got the wii, and would usually add the hand weights to them. I forget who said the 30 day shred, but I have that too, and it is brutal, but a great workout, even if I can't do the whole thing.

I like LS WATP 2 mile walk, I forget what it's called but it's a Christian one, she plays christian music - very uplifting. I especially like it b/c I can't DRAG myself into church since my mom passed away and dd really wants to go (she was active in Sunday school) so I feel like at least I'm listening to christian music - a little warped but it's working for me right now. lol
Whatever works for you, is what you should be doing. :hug:I know what you mean about church. We don't go every sunday, but michael does ccd, and when we do go to mass, I get very emotional. It's so hard, but I have found michael gives me so much strength, and he is helping me keep the faith when I'm feeling down.

Hi all, just checking in. I want to report that even with allllllll the events and parties I went to this weekend, I am still op! Heading to the gym tonight! Hoping for anything except a gain this week (I have lost weight the past 3 weeks but always seem to have issues on week 4 so I really, really, really want to not gain this time!)

TTYL,
SARAH
Whoo hoo!!!!:cheer2: That is such an big accomplishment and you should be proud. You inspire me, because I can not say the same about my weekend.

Have a great day.

Good morning all! :goodvibes

I love hearing about all the different workout DVDs! :thumbsup2

I used to hate it but now it's one of my faves. I bought Jillian's Banish Fat Boost Metabolism and I love love love it. I hadn't made the move to Level 2 on the Shred yet and I've had that over year. After doing BFBM a few times I decided Level 1 of The Shred was a lot easier so I usually do Level 1 and 2 in the same day now. Great workout in only like 40 minutes. Love it.

As for the QOTD: I love my Jillian videos. I am doing a BL December challenge and making myself do my 3 videos at least 7 days each. I have The Shred, Banish Fat Boost Metabolism, and BL Boot Camp. I just love videos. I really want BL Last Chance Workout.

Thanks for telling me about these other DVDs, Lynsey. I bet in a couple of weeks there will be some new titles out there, too.

You guys rock! I feel like a slacker but I am not where you all are. I just got back from my 30 minute walk and did my 10- minutes of exercise and am feeling quite proud of myself! lol

jennz, I wouldn't call 40 minutes of exercise slacking. I'd call that a great workout! :cool2:

Great job, Sarah! And BTW what is TTYL? :confused3 I am sure it is something nice. Maybe I am just slow this morning but inquiring minds want to know. ;)

Well, it could be worse. At Robert's school they give you red hand stamp of shame when they run out of lunch money -- darn thing lasts a week! :rotfl2:

Have a great day all!

Got up at 5:20 and did the 2 mile WATP. Couldn't sleep so I got upearly. ALso had to get DD1 up early to finish her homework this morning. Just finished 52 minutes on the Wii Fit. Plan on doing another 2 miles later today. Working at a book fair for 2 hours from 4-6 so I hope to get home by 7 and do 2 miles on the elliptical before or during the BL finale tonight.

Time to get changed and head over to the spa for awhile. Supposed to have a client tomorrow but the weather is iffy and she doesn't get around very well so she might have to postpone it.

You guys have some great ideas about working out at home!
I'd like to use my Wii Fit more. It's a great idea to add hand weights to the Free Step. I think I might try that tonight!

I don't have time to respond to everyone this morning since I'm at work, just popping on with QOTD...

Tuesday QOTD: With the BL Finale coming up, I thought I'd ask a BL question. Is there a particular contestant that you really identify with or who inspired you? If you're not a BL watcher, is there a person in your life that inspires/inspired you in your healthy-lifestyle journey?
Last season of BL was the first that I watched every episode. I really felt a connection to Tara, maybe because we're close in age and grew up in the same area. She was a great competitor and showed that even one of the smaller people and a female could put up big weight loss numbers and win challenges.

Good Tuesday afternoon friends!

Sorry I haven't been around much at all lately! The weekend was crazy busy (as I predicted) and even yesteray was still nutty. I had some time earlier today to do some reading and catching up, but I haven't had time to respond.

Well.. here comes "true confessions" moment. I had a TERRIBLE weekend (eating and exercise wise). The worst I have had in a long time. I was crazy busy Fri, Sat, and Sun.... and of course, by failing to plan meals appropriately, I fell to the allure of takeout all three nights (although my bkfsts and lunches were great and OP all the way). And since I was right out straight all three days, I didn't get in any exercise on Saturday or Sunday! I truly can't remember the last time I skipped TWO exercise days in a row! I took a peek at the scales this morning and sadly, it shows me up about 3 pounds! I am upset about it, but trying to focus on moving forward from this disaster. Maybe it is just some bloating that might be gone with a good visit from the bathroom fairy??? (Sorry if that is TMI!)

I guess the old saying is true.... "if you FAIL TO PLAN, then you PLAN TO FAIL." If I had taken more time to plan my dinners better and had something ready in the crockpot, then I definitely would have had a much better weekend.

Gotta run... sorry to blab and run... But thanks to my friends for listening..................P

I guess it is Liz this season since we are also about the same age. If she can do it I should be able to do it.

Don't have any more time today to talk. Lots to do. Dh is having hernia surgery tomorrow so we have some things to do. He won't have the surgery until the afternoon. He doesn't have to be there until 11:30. They told him that I don't have to stay the approx imately 4 hours that I can go home and they will call me when he is ready to be picked up. I am not sure about this but it does give me some time to get some things done at home for Christmas.

This my first BL season so I will have to go with Liz. She is the same age as I am and I think that we can do it, too, donac!

I'm quite amazed that she has made it as far as she had but I doubt that she will be the BL -- I think it will be one of the guys. Anyone else hope they don't do "America's choice" again tonight? ;)

, pjlla, I bet those 3 pounds will be gone before you know it! Try not to be upset. These things are going to happen, even if you planned. The important thing is to get right back on track again and I know you will do that! :thumbsup2

TTYL = talk to you later

can you guess what TTFN is?

Its what Tigger says Ta Ta For Now :goodvibes

I haven't watched every season, and none of them in particular inspire me. I did like Ali (the first woman to win it) because she did so much of her loss at home after she got sent home early on, and then came back to get it all. :thumbsup2

Dona - Good luck with your DH's surgery :flower3:

Thanks! I knew about TTFN -- I was thinking it is a comment on my interests in life that I knew TTFN and not TTYL. ;)

QOTD: Not sure who I relate to. I started my journey last Christmas when we received our Wii Fit. That got me motivated. My favorite contestant would have to be either Mike or Daniel. I guess that will have to be my answer!

Today has been a good day, I think! I treated myself to a package of ring dings and my handful of M&Ms and a small dish of light vanilla ice cream. I don't usually snack this much but it is PMS time. I did 2 mile WATP this morning, 52 minutes on the Wii Fit later in the morning and tonight did the 3 mile WATP. For meals I had a small piece of sausage quiche made with egg beaters, a lean pocket for lunch and a bigger piece of quiche for supper. I'm doing well with water. My goal this week is to just maintain the 20 pound loss for the challenge. After my morning workout I was at 20.1 for the challenge.

Tomorrow will be interesting as the weather gets interesting here. I plan on getting up and doing the 3 mile WATP whether there is school or not. DD2 may stay home as she has felt warm to us this evening and still has a horrible cough. I will do more Wii Fit and also plan on getting back on the elliptical. Hopefully The Good Wife will be ON DEMAND in the morning so I can catch up with that. I will also have to do a workout tomorrow night after getting home from pageant practice as I have ordered pizza to eat! I will try and be good the rest of the day so I won't have to do the 3mile only the 2 mile! My client has already canceled for tomorrow so I won't be going into work. I'll probably be taking care of some things here at the house before my parents arrive on Thursday. Their arrival will upset my workout routine so I will have to squeeze it in whenever I can!

Enjoy BL tonight!

So here's my problem with the BL Finale -- I get all inspired and ready to "do something", and it's the busy holiday season, with "once a year" food items and too much to do in too little time -- but even if I fight my way through that, this is not the time to get support from my family or friends, and even our BL is ending...not to sound like a big downer, but I'm wondering if anyone plans to "hang around" on this thread after the official end and until BL9 gets going. Not in an official capacity, just to check in if we want or need to, and encourage each other. You guys have been a huge support (even with my stunning lack of weight loss), and I'm hoping not to really have to go through the scariest weight loss part of the year alone...I guess I need someone to make a pact with, to promise I will weigh myself and pay some attention to eating and actually doing my strength workouts (I'm too afraid to stop running, so that will continue) until that magic date of Jan. 1st. I know I am ultimately accountable to myself, but it does help to feel like you're not completely on your own...

Good Tuesday afternoon friends!
I truly can't remember the last time I skipped TWO exercise days in a row! I took a peek at the scales this morning and sadly, it shows me up about 3 pounds! I am upset about it, but trying to focus on moving forward from this disaster.

Your body will probably appreciate the break - time to repair and renew. You'll be stronger and faster this week for it. You don't lose any conditioning in just a few days, so don't worry!

As for the scale, it's got to be phantom weight - it's not highly unlikely to impossible for you to have taken in three pounds worth of calories in just a few days. It will be gone before you know it.

Dh is having hernia surgery tomorrow so we have some things to do. He won't have the surgery until the afternoon. He doesn't have to be there until 11:30.

I'll hold a good thought for him and his doctors tomorrow.

I don't usually snack this much but it is PMS time.

Oh, I am so right there with you right now. Yesterday and this morning, it was just......that compulsive feeling urge to munch. I think there's something that happens when those hormones start to shift. Fortunately, it seems to ease off once the event arrives, at least that's my experience!

Hope your daughter feels better in the morning and the weather doesn't get too crazy!!

this is not the time to get support from my family or friends, and even our BL is ending...not to sound like a big downer, but I'm wondering if anyone plans to "hang around" on this thread after the official end and until BL9 gets going.

Maria, I am not going anywhere. I'll be here, or if people want to do another between the challenges challenge thread, I'd be good with that too - it is going to be a short time between challenges, but as you say, the most dangerous time of the year!!! Maybe those of us who are interested could take turns posting a QOTD, even?? You also know how to find me if you want some support. Any time, cousin.

For me, I was so inspired by Abby. She survived the thing that I, along with so many other moms, fear the most - the loss of her family. She managed to find a way to open her heart again. She looked amazing in the finale as well. And so, so happy. I was tearing up as she was up there, but she was just beaming. So much fortitude and grace.

Congratulations to ALL of this season's Biggest Losers. Every one of them has done incredible things for themselves in - what - 6 months from the time they started on the ranch? Just astonishing.

I'll be sticking around and plan to get on here once a day. I have not had great losses, but I've been maintaining, and without doing the BL challenges, I'm sure I would have been gaining back what I lost at the beginning of the year. I will be continuing to weigh myself weekly and I will post my results on here or if there's a between challenges thread, I'll go over there ::yes::

Here we celebrate our progress and recognize our superstars.

Biggest Loser 8 Fall Challenge Week 12
This weeks total group loss 41.4 pounds!
Total group weight loss so far 415.9 pounds!
Group weight loss goal 500 pounds! As our numbers have dwindled, the goal is seeming harder. BUT it is STILL POSSIBLE! There’s still 2 weeks left to get us there, and it’ll be tough especially at this time of year, but it is still possible :goodvibes

Average percentage of weight lost 0.89%

Before the weekly superstar list comes the disclaimer. I am human and I make mistakes. If you have any questions please contact me. For your reference this is the magic percentage of weight lost formula - weight loss for the week divided by weight for last week times 100, that gives us the percentage. Now let me test that with my numbers for week 1, click, click, click goes the calculator. Yes, that agrees with the percentage on the magic spreadsheet.

Now let's get to the good stuff. Who were our superstars of week 12? This week I’ve went with a simple TOP 10 LIST. That criteria may change from week to week. Hey I'm in charge here and I get paid nothin' to do this so you better take what you can get!;);):rotfl: (and if there’s something you want to know, just ask me!)

Thanks to ohMom-Molli for these clippies. They were used for a previous BL but we can recycle. Don't they look great!

Congrats to our BL! I finished 2nd again. That's 3 times this season!

I will definitely be hanging around as it's a place for me to be held accountable for what I do and what I eat!

I loved the show last night! So glad the new season starts up right after New Year's!

Gonna hold off on my workouts as I'm staying in today. School is still open here though everywhere else is closed. Maybe they're waiting until 6 to close. Keeping DD2 home as she doesn't need to go out in this with that cough. I will let her go to dancing and pageant practice as it should be better around here later.

Think I'm going back to bed for awhile!

Have a great and healthy day everyone!

Lisa thanks for telling me I'm not slacking. I've been thinking that I'm just walking for 30 minutes then only doing 10 minutes of exercises...um...yes that is 40 total minutes of exercise isn't it??:woohoo:

Worfie I'll still be here too! In fact I think I have a coaching day coming up soon...

I've decided that I have completed my first workout of the day: shoveling the driveway and front steps. Will have to do it again as it's snowing quite hard and already covered where I had shoveled! DH is even working from home. Put DD1 on the bus despite my better judgement. DD2 is staying home with a bad cough. A plow finally made two passes on our street and didn't even come close to the end of my driveway!

Winter in New England! Gotta love it! OR NOT!

Well.. here comes "true confessions" moment. I had a TERRIBLE weekend (eating and exercise wise). The worst I have had in a long time. I'm sure it is mostly bloat, and don't be too hard on yourself. You have done amazing for so long, and it is that crazy time of year when it's hard to find the time for ourselves. Hang in there. I bet you'll see that gone in no time.

Tuesday QOTD: With the BL Finale coming up, I thought I'd ask a BL question. Is there a particular contestant that you really identify with or who inspired you? If you're not a BL watcher, is there a person in your life that inspires/inspired you in your healthy-lifestyle journey?
I was definitely most inspired by Abby this season. Having gone through quite a bit of loss this year, and really feeling knocked down by it, I was so impressed with how she has picked herself up and gotten her will to live back. Like corina said, that is the thing mom's fear most, and honestly, if that ever happened, I do not know how I would go on. She looked amazing last night.

Maria :upsidedow
I'll be here til the next challenge too. We could do a between the bl challenges, or keep this thread going. I will have a lot of days off through the holiday week, and really could use the support to keep me on track.

Maria, I am not going anywhere. I'll be here, or if people want to do another between the challenges challenge thread, I'd be good with that too - it is going to be a short time between challenges, but as you say, the most dangerous time of the year!!! that would be great to keep the qotd's going too.

40 min/ day is awesome!! I'm aiming to do a minimum of 30 min four day's a week. I'm pushing for more, but for me, in a busy week, that's good. I think if I vow to do more than that and then don't make it, it's more discouraging.

Oh, bummer. We're still rain, luckily we're close to the coast. Wonder if we'll have a white christmas.

Donac- I think I messed up my quoting. Hope your husband's surgery goes well. Even though you probably have left already, I would tell you to leave him at the hospital and make use of those 4 hours. Most likely, once he checks in to the surgicenter, he'll be brought into the unit, and you won't be able to sit with him. Then after the surgery, the surgeon will call you, but he'll be sleepy, and again you'll probably just be waiting in the waiting room. I know where I work, they do not usually allow family members into the recovery or pre op areas, and with the H1N1, they are restricting visitors even more. Good luck.

Well, I did find myself very inspired by the finale show yesterday. I did 40min wii fit step while watching it, and another 30 this morning. Started with an egg beaters scramble this morning, and will have a light lunch because I'm going out with some girls from work tonight for mexican.

Have a great day.:)

Congratulations to all of our superstars and especially to our biggest loser, iluvtig2! More than 6% right before Christmas! :cool1: Would you mind sharing your winning strategy?

Maria :upsidedow

Last year Princess Vija hosted a BL Alumni thread during the break. You kept track of your own weight and just chatted and came for support on the thread.

This thread will stay active for a few days after the final weigh in on 12/18 until shortly after the results are posted. I will also start the BL 9 sign up thread early next week before I leave for WDW. It is really only one week that you don't have a weigh in -- 12/25 because the starting weigh in on
1/1.

I will have my laptop at WDW but won't be able to do a good job keeping up with this thread, welcoming newbies on BL9 and an in-between thread so it would be wonderful if someone wanted to do that. :santa:

Maria, I am not going anywhere. I'll be here, or if people want to do another between the challenges challenge thread, I'd be good with that too - it is going to be a short time between challenges, but as you say, the most dangerous time of the year!!! Maybe those of us who are interested could take turns posting a QOTD, even??

That's a great idea and makes coaching a lot easier this busy time of year!

Which brings me to our coach of the day rotation coming up soon. Thank you, princessbride6205, for being our coach during this busy week. You're doing a great job!

Here is a friendly reminder about the coach of the day rotation schedule:

12/11 - 12/18 COACH OF THE DAY ROTATION (a different
coach each day)

12/12 ShortynBug

12/14 lisah0711
12/15 jennz
12/16 mikamah

Congrats to our BL! I finished 2nd again. That's 3 times this season!

I will definitely be hanging around as it's a place for me to be held accountable for what I do and what I eat!

I loved the show last night! So glad the new season starts up right after New Year's!

Great job! I think snow shoveling also counts as exercise! Thank goodness the plow stayed away from your driveway.

You do! On 12/15! It's a lot of fun and I will be contacting you about BL 9 coaching. :thumbsup2

Oh, and one other thing, anyone care to join me in the single digit dance?:cool1::banana:
