Biggest Loser 8 Fall Challenge -- for losers and maintainers!

Thanks for the kudos, guys. I do appreciate it! When I picked this goal weight, I felt like I was shooting for the moon. Now that I'm here, I feel like I can easily reach the stars. :goodvibes

Saturday QOTD: How do you make time in your day for exercise?

You know, part of the time commitment is how long it takes to get ready/get to the gym/ shower after. Even for a half hour workout, I'm looking at at least an hour! I've been looking at ways to streamline that part of it. Keeping my things together in one place so it's easy to find them is what I've got so far.

When I first started (and still now) the key to fitting in the exercise for me was having a plan for the week. At first it helped that it was very manageable. The C25K plan asks only 30 minutes 3 times a week, but it was enough to get me hooked into a routine. Training plans are my lifeline. I know which days I am doing what and for how long and can plan accordingly. If the thought is "Ugh, I should exercise today" every day, then every day is a chance for guilt. If I'm supposed to do 3 miles today and tomorrow is a rest day, well, then I know I'm running today, whether I do it now when its light out or have to run on the TM later. And if my plan is to attend a fitness class, well, then I'd better get my act together because it's only happening at 9:30!

Saturday QOTD: How do you make time in your day for exercise?

During the week I walk in the door from work and go straught to my exercise. Well, except Wednesday when I make dinner right away and exercise the minute I walk in the door from taking my daughter to church. That's how I have to do it because if I sat down when I got home I'd never get back up. I wish I could do it in the morning but I get up between 5 and 5:15 to get myself ready for work and my girls ready for daycare. If it was a running day I'd wake them all because the treadmill is in my bedroom. If I did a video I'd need to get up at 4 or earlier because I am dripping when I get done. I normally take my shower before bed so in the morning I can just get ready.

I looked back at my charts and I have exercised 50 days out of the last 73. That's pretty good but could be better.

Oh, and on the weekends if I know I have something to do I just get up and get it done by 10. If I don't I sit and sit and finally do it later than I should. I don't know why I don't just get it done and be through with it because sometimes things pop up and I don't get it done when I had all day.

I *think* I may just try a week of getting up at 4 and see how I feel. I'll do it this week because I don't think I work a full week the rest of the year. I'll let you know how it goes. It'll just be Monday-Thursday because I don't work Friday. I may run into trouble with needing to get in the shower at the same time as mu hubby because he works an hour earlier than me and gets up about about 10 minutes before me so he's out of the bathroom when I need it. Who knows, it may turn out I like all the time I have at night with out rushing all over and keep it up. I know my girls would like me that extra hour or more it takes me to workout at night.

4:30?? I think I should get up early to work out but can never drag myself out of bed at the (late) hour of 5:30 lol you are shaming me!

We're supposed to get snow tomorrow, Tues and Wed and so I'm going to get outside this afternoon to walk my dog (and me). I'd rather go first thing but it's a few degrees warmer later

My alarm goes off at 4:20. I know people who think I am totally crazy. When I am really into exercising the morning is the only time I really commmit to it. If I plan for the afternoon then I either have a meeting scheduled that I forgot about or when I get home I am not in the mood. It may be easier now to work out in the afternoon since ds2 is in college and I don't have to deal with him.

I am usually at my desk at school by 6:40 so I can get some things done before anyone shows up for extra help.

QOTD:
I get up most days at 5:30 and do 2 miles on the elliptical or the 3 mile WATP. Then after putting DD1 on the bus I go back and do the 2 mile workout. This really gets my day off to a good start. I try to get in another 2-3 miles at night watching tv. Gave my knees a break from the elliptical so I will probably get back on it tomorrow. Also have been doing the Wii Fit again. I'll be getting a few DVD/Wii workouts as Christmas gifts so that will add to my variety.

Only up a little for the weekend. Had 2 drinks yesterday, a big lunch and a lite supper. We decorated our tree and then I got cleaning for my parents arrival later in the week. Then the tree FELL! Nothing broke thank goodness. Totally forgot to drink water yesterday. I will get to it later. Heading to a MS musical at 2:30 so I don't want to have to run to the bathroom during it. Making meatloaves for lunch now before heading out to the show. Using 93% ground beef, egg beaters, ground up veggies (mushrooms, carrots, zucchini, and eggplant), ketchup, and some Mrs. Dash for spices and some Italian bread crumbs. This is DD1's fave way to eat meatloaf. Will probably just snack later.
Plan on getting some kind of workout in tonight between cleaning and redecorating the tree. May just be the Wii Fit though!

Hope everyone's weekend is going well!

4:30?? I think I should get up early to work out but can never drag myself out of bed at the (late) hour of 5:30 lol you are shaming me!

Well, I wouldn't feel bad -- you can probably stay up past 8:30 pm and I can't! :lmao: I just have an early to bed/early to rise body clock so I go with it. I only use an alarm clock when I have a plane to catch, otherwise I just wake up. :confused3

I hear that snow shoveling is a good workout. ;) I did a little of that yesterday.

I remember the getting ready for daycare days very well! Can you do some of your getting ready for daycare at night to shorten your morning routine? I do a week's worth of outfits for DS on Sunday and then he can just pick one each morning. I love those days he eats and school and now he packs his own lunch so I got out of that duty. We also had the "it's not my homework" talk at the beginning of the year so I don't do a thing with it unless I am asked to check work. We've all managed to survive and do what needs to be done. :rolleyes1

Yep, I think that you can do anything that you sent your mind to, corinnak! :thumbsup2 I know you are going to be as successful maintaining your weight as you were getting to your goal!

I like to go to work early, too. The phone isn't ringing. You can get a lot done before everyone else gets up and about. Works for grocery shopping on the week-end, too.

Then the tree FELL! Nothing broke thank goodness.

Yikes! :scared1: Glad that everything is okay!

Enjoy the rest of your day!

Is it too late to join in this challenge if only for 2 weeks? We need to lose 100 lbs a peicce and could use all the help we can get, thanks.

Thanks for all the positive feedback folks!
I'm happy to say that I had a nice family weekend. We went and watched the Santa parade on Friday, and besides the cold, it was fun to see my 4yo DD so excited, and 8yoDD was excited to be walking in the parade with her Brownie troop.:thumbsup2
The rest of the weekend, was trying to get all the Christmas decorating done. Its mostly done, and throughout the week, the rest will be done. We have quite a bit of Christmas stuff, and do a big tree in the living room, a little pink tree in the toy room, and a 4ft tree with sports ornaments in the rec room. And we go a little tacky and put garland everywhere :goodvibes.

Saturday QOTD: How do you make time in your day for exercise?
For me, it has become a routine. It's something I just do most days. My usual time is after DD goes to bed, which sometimes has me finishing my workout after 9pm. I do wish I could find time earlier, but I'm so not a morning person, so I'm making this work. I also like to walk on my lunches at work. I bring comfortable shoes and my iPod.

I'm bad at committing to exercise. I usually do the best when I'm doing it in the evening right after the girls get to bed. And weekends is best if I do it in the morning. I'm not a morning person; I've tried getting up early to exercise and start the day, and I just don't enjoy it, so always end up going back to evening. :thumbsup2

If you know you're starting weight, just PM if you want to participate in the weigh in spots. :goodvibes

Lisa0711 has got the main details on Page 1, but if you've got any questions please post them :goodvibes.

Got in 2 miles last night and drank most of my water. Down .4 for the weekend so I'm happy about that. Did 2 miles this morning and plan on doing more after putting DD1 on the bus and then planning on some Wii Fit after lunch and tonight another 2-3 miles.

Doing some errands, organizing gifts I've bought so far, cleaning for my parents arrival on Thursday and anything else that comes up today!

Just wanted to post a quick hello. Hope everyone had a good weekend. We were busy and the weekend flew by. There is no school today, but I'm working so I'll drop michael at his after school care on my way to work. I'll miss my morning coffee and computer after he gets on the bus like usually. I ate and drank too much this weekend, but today is a new day and I'm going to start out on the right foot. I'll be back later to answer the qotds that I missed and catch up on the thread. It is so nice to see so many of us hanging in there through the busy holiday season.

Thanks Shannon for the weight reminder, and thanks to princessbride for coaching this week!

Have a great day.

:welcome: mstinson14! It is never too late to join our challenge. Two weeks is a long time when you are talking about December festivities and food. The link to the info about our challenge is in post 1. Also, post 4 has a link to the COW (challenge of the week) that you might want to try.

Just pop in and start chatting away!

I think that this is the key -- figure out the time that works for you, no matter when it is! :thumbsup2

You are a workout machine, Tracey! I hope that you have a great visit with your folks! :santa:

Glad that you had a good week-end. I am sure that Michael enjoyed his celebrations. We all do deserve a pat on the back for sticking with the challenge this time of year -- even if it does mean a lot of picking ourselves up and dusting off our pants and running again . . . The important thing is that we keep getting up! :santa:

It is cold, cold, cold here this morning -- it's 8 now (feels like -7) and will be 3 tonight -- brrr! May have to do an extra workout tonight just to warm up!

Have a great day all!

Oh no Lisa just saw you are in ID - are you under the blizzard watch for tomorrow??

Kathy I agree, it's great to see everyone here, this is a great group :grouphug: very encouraging and welcoming!

Tracey you might have just motivated me to get up at 5:30...:yay:

Well I was going to go outside to walk today, it's snowy and icy out now but was supposed to get up to 36...not looking like we'll be seeing sun or that the snow will melt...guess I'll need to do it inside instead. My dogs will be made at me! :rotfl:

DD is still sick, hoping she makes it back to school tomorrow, poor girl.

I have som veggie soup in the crockpot, it's smelling soooo good already!

I'm sorry that there was not a Sunday QOTD - we got so busy with errands and cleaning and Christmas shopping that I didn't get on DIS all day.

I hope everyone had a good weekend! I strayed from plan more than I intended, but today is a new day. I find it easier to stay on plan with the structure of weekdays. Wishing everyone a wonderful on-plan week! ;)

Monday QOTD: What is your favorite workout you can do at home with minimal equipment?
My favorite is a strength training/light cardio routine that a personal trainer friend created. Sometimes I do Wii Fit, but I don't often feel like it's a strenuous enough workout. As for workout videos, I have one of the Biggest Loser ones led by Bob and the New York City Ballet workout. I haven't done the Ballet one in a long time - I think I'll get that back out this week.

Oh no Lisa just saw you are in ID - are you under the blizzard watch for tomorrow??

No, thank goodness. I think that is for the folks farther south. I'm in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho -- 80 miles south of the Canadian border and 30 miles east of Spokane, Washington. We just have bitterly cold temperatures all week.

But I am already getting myself in a tizzy fretting about getting out of here next week to head out to WDW. I hope that being in a tizzy will burn some extra calories! :thumbsup2

Monday QOTD: What is your favorite workout you can do at home with minimal equipment?

I can't say it is my "favorite" workout but it is the most effective -- the dreaded 30 Day Shred with Jillian. All you need are hand weights. It is a hard workout, for me anyways, I've never made it past level 1. After two days in a row, I have to switch off to something else, it is just too hard on my knees. I like the Biggest Loser CardioMax.

This is a great question, princessbride6205. I hope someone tells us about a workout DVD that is kind of dancy (is that a word?). I think I would like that.

jennz, hope your DD feels better soon!

Have a great day all!

QOTD MONDAY: Probably the WATP though I do use hand weights. I do sometimes do the on demand BL workouts butnot as much as before. Of course walking around town ins the cheapest way or meeting redwalker at the mall!

Got the gifts organized! Wrapped some for a friend who is coming by and got into the UP DVD so I could download the digital copy and put it on the ipod for emergencies. Will have to be a present from Mom and Dad for DD2.

Watching One Special Night in the bedroom while I get organized. It's with Julie Andrews and James Garner. One of my favorites!:santa:

I used to hate it but now it's one of my faves. I bought Jillian's Banish Fat Boost Metabolism and I love love love it. I hadn't made the move to Level 2 on the Shred yet and I've had that over year. After doing BFBM a few times I decided Level 1 of The Shred was a lot easier so I usually do Level 1 and 2 in the same day now. Great workout in only like 40 minutes. Love it.

As for the QOTD: I love my Jillian videos. I am doing a BL December challenge and making myself do my 3 videos at least 7 days each. I have The Shred, Banish Fat Boost Metabolism, and BL Boot Camp. I just love videos. I really want BL Last Chance Workout.

I also love my lights weights. I have 3 and 10 pounds ones. I use the different ones depending on what I'm doing. I really need 5 pounders too though. The 3 pounders are too little and the 10s can be too much.

I love my resistance bands too. I use them sometimes while I'm just sitting there watching tv. I use my ball a lot when watching tv too though.

LOL! Looks like I have a lot of little things I love so I should be thankful.

Monday QOTD: What is your favorite workout you can do at home with minimal equipment?

I like using my step when I'm watching TV.
I've got some videos, and my favourite was Elle McPherson's Your Personal Best because it alternated aerobics with others.

You guys rock! I feel like a slacker but I am not where you all are. I just got back from my 30 minute walk and did my 10- minutes of exercise and am feeling quite proud of myself! lol

I like LS WATP 2 mile walk, I forget what it's called but it's a Christian one, she plays christian music - very uplifting. I especially like it b/c I can't DRAG myself into church since my mom passed away and dd really wants to go (she was active in Sunday school) so I feel like at least I'm listening to christian music - a little warped but it's working for me right now. lol

Lisa - glad the blizzard will be missing you! Where are you staying at WDW?

Hi all, just checking in. I want to report that even with allllllll the events and parties I went to this weekend, I am still op! Heading to the gym tonight! Hoping for anything except a gain this week (I have lost weight the past 3 weeks but always seem to have issues on week 4 so I really, really, really want to not gain this time!)

TTYL,
SARAH
