Biggest Loser 8 Fall Challenge -- for losers and maintainers!

Today's qotd- life's curveballs can be so frustrating. We've had a few this year, and even though it can be tough, and I'll fall off the wagon, I try not to be too hard on myself, and when life starts to get back to normal, get right back on track. Lately, I'm really trying to keep a positive attitude, and am realizing, that if I am eating healthier and exercising, it is easier to do that. Pjlla's words keep coming back to me when I start to lose it- I can't control what is happening, but I can control my reaction to it. This weekend is going to be one of those situations. My 2 brothers and 2 sisters and I are going to clean out my mom's apartment. It will be so emotional, but eating out of control will not make it any easier. Thanks Crista for this question. You have helped remind me to take care of myself, and to think what do I really want. I want to stay in control with my eating, and I'm going to.

Thanks Dona for doing the cow!! ( and an extra thanks for getting rid of the flossing- that really holds me back. :rotfl:)

Hope you all have a nice day, and a happy weighin. I'm the same, and was dissappointed just for a minute after being op for the last 4 days, but then I remember my weekend, and am thrilled to have a maintain. How quickly my memory can forget the bad stuff. That's why i have to journal.

 on the weekend at your mom's place.

And :lmao: on the bolded part.

Morning all! WEll... the news on the scale wasn't good, so I am holding off on my official weigh-in until tomorrow... not sure I will see any change, but we'll see. It just doesn't seem possible that I gained 3 pounds this week... I ate on plan and exercised over 30 minutes almost every day. It has to be water weight or PMS or something like that. My clothes still fit fine... in fact, I am wearing a pair of size 4 corduroy pants today!! So a big WOOHOO for that anyhow!

I will post my gain/loss tomorrow for sure, no matter what the number.

I'm working at the middle school today, so I'm not sure how much screen time I will get, but I will be around!............P

The body can just simply hold onto certain foods - to put it nicely. For sure.

Caught your reply on the recipe. Thanks so much. And congratulations on your size four. That's wonderful.

Good morning everyone. I haven't posted lately just been in a blue funk so been reading but no posting.

So today I am determined to get in a better mood. Talked with friends about dh yesterday and I think it helped a little. So there was laughter and some sniffles but it helped. I tend to bottle things up until I can't hold it anymore so it was time.

Well I lost yet another .50 lb.

Hope everyone does well today.

A half a pound down. A half a pound down. :lovestruc

And  to you. It must be so difficult. All the best to you.

QOTD Thursday: If you were at WDW right now and were committed to staying OP for your vacation, what would you eat today?

I was very impressed with how many of you could just rattle off some good eating choices at WDW. :thumbsup2 I need to put a little thought into this with my upcoming vacation. My plan is to eat 1/2 or smaller portions of everything and use the walking to offset the damage. Because I am travelling with family, there will definately have to be alcohol to help smooth the edges, if you know what I mean. :rolleyes1

Nothing like drinking and relaxing at WDW. :thumbsup2

My answer to the question would be anything I wanted at WDW. Caramel apple for sure. Breakfast at Fresh. Love that. Mickey ice cream ears. WPE for sure. Pretzel bread at Le Cellier. Some Rice Krispie ears for sure. BB - oh the Boardwalk Bakery. Their fruit plate is spectucular. That and their brownie. I eat them together. :rotfl: WPE - great salad I love there - walnuts - spinach salad. I always get garlic mashed as well. Heaven!!!! Oh love it!

Just portion control. And concentrating on eating consciously. Oh how I would love to be there right now.

Yeah, ME! :banana:I finally have reached the 160s again! 2 pounds this week despite it being the TOM. I really tried to stay focused. It's been 6 months since I last saw it so I'm really pumped! I've done a mile on the elliptical, and the 2 and 3 mile workouts today! I'm very energetic for some reason this morning. Plus I'm off to work to give an hour long massage today!

I hope to not overdo it tonight when we go out for Chinese food. DD2 turns 5 next Tuesday but DH and DD1 have soccer practice that night so I though tonight would be a good night. We'll come home and have a drink and save on some cash as well. This helps me too as then I don't have to try to work off the Chinese food in 3 days for the next weigh in! Of course tomorrow we go to Boston to see the HP exhibit and see some friends and then Sunday is DD2s b'day party and then having some friends over for pizza!

I put out 2 pairs of size 12 pants that fit but are a bit snug. I'm hoping by next week for them to be not as snug!

Have a super weekend everyone and I wish you all lots of joy in your lives!:cool1:

Fantastic results all around!!!!

CONGRATULATIONS everyone, and thanks much for the Ziti recipe..Looks YUMMY!!

QOTD...I usually try to work out and take it easy, seems to clear my mind.

Last night, for whatever reason, I just ate like there was no tomorrow. I had...all within 90 mins :scared1:-
Scrambled eggs w/ham & cheese (little)
1 1/2 bowls of Golden Grahams cereal
about 5 handfuls of Ruffles chips
1/2 bag of Corn Nuts
1 Kit Kat
1 (mini) Snickers
3 oreos and
1/2 of a diet soda:rolleyes1

My body is SO weird, I don't know why! Good news is I worked out like a fiend before this feeding frenzy (could be why the ravenous hunger, now that I think about it) and...drumroll please..DIDN'T GAIN an OUNCE!!

I TRULY watch everything that goes into my mouth weekdays at work, but, sometimes the nights get me. Clearly, last night I threw caution to the wind..but I am back on track today! I haven't had such an episode in over a year, I think my body needed all the weird stuff I gave it for some reason

I am going to FOCUS on COW items this week and participate like I should. Thanks all..have a great weekend!!:thumbsup2

Congratulations on the maintain. Maintaining - are you ready Kathy? :rotfl: - highly underrated achievement. :lovestruc

Down 1.8 this week. Wanted to go down about 3 pounds this week due to my small loss last week but pretty much knew that wouldn't happen. I set a goal of 1.8 pounds each week so I wanted to find a way to keep that going but oh well. I at least hit that this week again.

Good for you. 1.8 is fantastic. :thumbsup2

Congrats Tracey for such a great loss this week!

pjlla -- you are at my goal :teeth: are you a maintainer?

i did lose 1 lb this week, i don't feel like any at all and i'm focusing on next weeks WI and how great it will be to finally see a lower number!

have a great weekend OP everyone!

Congratulations on your loss Molli. :thumbsup2

Well... my original goal was 135, but I decided a few months ago to lower that to 130. At last week's weigh-in I hit 137.6, so I am definitely closing in on my goal, but not there yet! Thanks for asking.................P

That is so exciting. Very happy for you.

I'm a little behind in answering the questions of the day, so here it goes.

QOTD Thursday: If you were at WDW right now and were committed to staying OP for your vacation, what would you eat today?

I'd be at DL instead of WDWI'd have a piece of fruit for breakfast, and then we'd stop for an early counterservice lunch and since we usually just get a bunch of stuff to share amongst us, I'd end up eating some salad, a few fries and a burger. For late afternoon I'd hit the Bengal BBQ and have a bit of everything, I love all the meat skewers, the asparagus skewer and the veggie skewer. Then later in the evening we'd probably go for dinner and I'd share a pasta dish and salad with one of my kids. No dessert that day, since Bengal BBQ would have been my treat of the day. Oh, and if I had wanted a snack, I might have gotten a frozen banana or a dill pickle on a stick!:goodvibes

Question of the Day - Friday 10/22
How do you handle life's little unexpected curve balls? What do you do when "life" gets in the way of your plans?

Just deal with whatever the curveball is and try to get back on track quickly. I am learning to speak up, and if we end up someplace where I can't eat healthy, I don't get too worried over one meal, and just make sure to not let one bad meal or one bad day turn into a bad week.
If you drop a plate emptying the dishwasher, you don't throw the rest of the dishes on the floor!;)

I loved your post. I can get a little too all or nothing - not with food but with results. A big one for me.

Can I still sign up for this? I have been following it for a while and doing lots of working out.

This week was my first maintain since I started ( I am trying to lose.) That bummed me out.

If I can't still join I will just keep reading along until a winter version comes along.

Hi seashell. Welcome. :surfweb:

WHoops - lost your quote Sara.... I love my leader, she is hilarious!
Hysterical is always good, eh? So true.

Me I'm down .8.

Hi everyone! Happy Friday!

Kind of a blah day... was hoping to see a decent number this morning for loss but only saw .8 :(

I know it's better then gaining but I stayed on points on exercised...offical WW weigh in tomorrow... and a cruise next weekend :scared1:

Have to really watch what I eat next week both on and off of the cruise!

Welcome seashell!

On Friday 10/30/09 send me

XX days exercising
XX days of eating 1 fruit
XX days journaling
XX days doing something for someone else

Aahhh-- the cursed flossing is gone. Honestly- my teeth are really really close together and I actually destroy floss flossing, end up with spit all over my hands- ugh. I might do it once every few weeks now though.

Question of the Day - Friday 10/22
How do you handle life's little unexpected curve balls? What do you do when "life" gets in the way of your plans?

I eat. Well I used to, now I just pretty much blab to everyone in sight my troubles and it eventually helps me feel better.:mic: Gets me in trouble sometimes but ultimately worth it. I know it's not the best quality but I'm always being honest. If it's really affecting me badly I run to my guru-- Dr. Wayne Dyer. I'll dig up tapes to listen to or put a cd in my car. He just has a way of making big problems seem smaller and workable. If I can though I just really try to think out a solution I can work with. I'm very life give you lemons make lemonade person.

It is a steady rain here today, completely grey skies and I'm LOVING it. :umbrella: True Oregonian I guess. Think I'll go use the stepper for awhile as it's on the back porch because of the halloween decorations and just enjoy the rain. I slept an hour past the View too so this is fine. I lost 3 pounds this week! Doing the research on body set points and plateus really helped me I think as did journaling and Luv Baloo's halloween costume question. I really do want to fit in my witches dress well enough to be able to have my cuddleduds on under lol. I think walking more really helped. I'm in the 130's now. Well 139. I'll take it though- haven't seen that in 20 years. I must be...much shorter than you all though because 14's still fit me well lol. My rear end was willing to give up some-- but baby still's got back...:dogdance:

Had a big bowl of oatmeal with dried fruit chopped up into it for breakfast today and just feeling the fall finally. Going out to the farms today and Costco and a new Walgreens opened out towards the farms so cool, I'll drop by and see when the grand opening will be. Gonna buy some good veggies today as I found out the doctor wants my husband to lose 5 pounds a week for 5 weeks....he mumbled something to me about 5 pounds a few weeks ago then fessed up today to what the doc really wanted last night grr..

So I'm really gonna be on it for awhile with my son flying in a couple weeks to see his sister he really wants to lose some weight, the husband with his issues and I'm really close to my goal weight 135. I've officially lost 36 pounds since last New Years- I'm really happy with that!

Aahhh-- the cursed flossing is gone. Honestly- my teeth are really really close together and I actually destroy floss flossing, end up with spit all over my hands- ugh. I might do it once every few weeks now though.

I have the same problem with tight teeth. In the last year, I found a floss for tight teeth, that is flat string instead of round string. It works quite well. Its Reach brand.

Well, was hoping for a bigger loss this week - but did get down another pound. I guess it doesn't help that I keep gaining a pound on the weekends and then have to lose that pound before I can dig into the original weight that I was working on. But, alas - no cocktails at friend's house this weekend, no dinner out at local Italian place, no parties on the agenda - so hopefully no 1lb gain this weekend? :thumbsup2 So, the goal this weekend is to continue to lose!!

QOTD Thursday: If you were at WDW right now and were committed to staying OP for your vacation, what would you eat today?
Wow - tough question. There's just too much temptation at WDW. :rolleyes1 I would start by splitting a Mickey waffle with DH. Then for lunch - we would split either a sandwich or a wrap (maybe a Turkey leg with one of the kids - because they can never finish the whole thing and why pay for another lunch when their not finishing theirs :rotfl:) Then for dinner - hit one of the buffets - love Boma. But, will eat at Tusker House, or Chef Mickey's or just about anywhere - we're not real finicky  (maybe that's my problem :scared1:). Like buffets because I can control the portion and I can load up on veggies which is what I try to do so I don't feel as guilty about stuffing myself :scared1:

Question of the Day - Friday 10/22
How do you handle life's little unexpected curve balls? What do you do when "life" gets in the way of your plans?
I scream! I do - I get red in the face and just yell. No, I don't yell at people (well, okay, maybe my kids - but that's a whole other story :rotfl:) - but I do tend to try to get away and just let it out as soon as I get a chance. I was hospitalized twice for a duodenal ulcer back in my 20s and one of the things someone told me was that I tend to internalize too many things and that caused way too much stress. Once I can get my feeling of frustration out of the way (and under control) - I'm usually good and can move on / handle that unexpected curve ball. :hippie:

That's my problem every week. I usually gain 2-3 pounds over the weekend. I'm trying to only be "BAD" on Friday nights. This weekend will be hard as we're eating out and going to a party, and then having DD2s b'day party on Sunday and then friends over for pizza. Guess I'll be doing over time working out next week! I was bad tonight as we had Chinese food and then had a drink when we got home. I ate my food in 2 meals as I filled up fast at the restaurant.

Hi all! So I went and weighed in this week even though I was expecting another gain and get this....I LOST .4. I know it is less than a half a pound, but I will take it! Plus, I am back in the grove...at least I have been for the past 4 days! I am feeling good again...even got into the gym a couple times recently! Here is to everyone struggling that they may regain their healthy MOJO!:wizard:

I am happy to report that I am down 3 pounds.

:grouphug::grouphug::grouphug:Nice job on the loss. I think any loss is great for all you're going through right now. Hang in there, take it one day at a time, and try to let those good memories bring some smiles with the tears.

I was very impressed with how many of you could just rattle off some good eating choices at WDW. :thumbsup2 I need to put a little thought into this with my upcoming vacation. I almost forgot about the alcohol. I don't really drink much when it's just me and michael, but with my db and dsil I always enjoy a few beverages. Might be trading in a mickey bar for a margarita on a few of those days. And I loooved the sangria at hoop dee doo.
 to you Kathy, for this week-end. Only 16 days to WDW -- how wonderful!

Thanks for the ziti recipe. Is the broccoli fresh or frozen?
Thanks Lisa. We are looking so forward to it. Michael has figured out the date now, so we're counting down!! He and my niece taylor will be talking disney all weekend.
I use fresh brocolli, but frozen would probably be fine.
 on the weekend at your mom's place.

Hysterical is always good, eh? So true.

Me I'm down .8.
Thanks lisa. Hysterical is always good! Laughter is definitely the best medicine.

Well, just checking in this morning. Baked some cookies to bring along today, and had a few points of the dough, but it is a new week, and I am determined to stay within my points this weekend. I'm wearing my favorite capris that are just a bit too snug right now so they will inspire me to stay in control. We're planning to get pizza for dinner, so I'll get a chicken kabob salad. I'm going to do the wii fit for a while before we go.

Congrats to all the losers and maintainers this week, and hugs to those who've gained.
Have a great weekend.

Thanks about the pants... but truly, they are a flukey size... gotta LOVE JCP clothes! Mostly I wear an 8... but I have a few size 6 and a few size 10 also. But I recently bought a pair of jeans at Fashion bug that are marked a size 3!! I am definitely not a size 3 (or 4) IRL, but I love having a tag that says that number!!............P

I say size 4 pants, are size 4 pants, regardless of flukey sizing! :thumbsup2

Down 1.8 this week. Wanted to go down about 3 pounds this week due to my small loss last week but pretty much knew that wouldn't happen. I set a goal of 1.8 pounds each week so I wanted to find a way to keep that going but oh well. I at least hit that this week again.

You met your goal! That's cause to celebrate! :cool1:

If you drop a plate emptying the dishwasher, you don't throw the rest of the dishes on the floor!;)

Thanks for posting this quote again, Shannon! :goodvibes In my mind I had shortened it to "don't throw all your dishes on the floor" and it just didn't sound too inspiring that way!

Can I still sign up for this? I have been following it for a while and doing lots of working out.

This week was my first maintain since I started ( I am trying to lose.) That bummed me out.

:welcome: seashell724! Maintain is good! :flower3: Looks like you have a cruise coming up.

to think about their dining on their vacations. I knew several of us had trips coming up soon. Getting back on track afterward is always a huge problem for me too, so I decided to not stray so far from the plan while on vacation this time and maybe it won't be such an adjustment to get back on it!

Glad that you are feeling better! :goodvibes

That is a good idea about tracking the COW in your journal. Thanks to the COW this week the journaling is spot on. :thumbsup2 It really does help you keep focused.

Kind of a blah day... was hoping to see a decent number this morning for loss but only saw .8 :(

A loss is a loss! :cheer2: Have fun on your cruise!

I've officially lost 36 pounds since last New Years- I'm really happy with that!

Congratulations, susan! You should be so proud of yourself. I think you and pjllla are going to be our first two members of the maintainers team soon! :cool2:

Yay, donac! :cheer2: Down three pounds!

Both DH and I have to work this week-end. I will work today and he will work tomorrow. We just need to get caught up. I am fooling around a bit here this morning because it is pitch black outside and I just don't think you should rush in to work when you go in on your day off! :sad2:

Have a great day, all!

Not being very good this weekend so far. Everyone in my house is sick. I barely ate Thursday. Friday I had a popsicle and a lil bowl of tomato soup with about 6 crackers. Then my hubby wanted pizza hut so he ordered it. I had one piece and a breadstick. Nothing is sitting well and nothing sounds good. We were watching movies and he shows up from the kitchen with cinnasticks. I told him those are sweets and I have a week left on my no sweets plan and he says, "they weren't on your list. It's not like we get these everyday." They actually sounded good so I gave in. Can you believe that! I ate them. I had gone 23 days with no sweets and being sick I thought I had a free ticket to eat something I shouldn't. And then this morning I had him get me a fountain coke from the gas station. I haven't had one in months and it is amazing let me tell you. But what the heck? I also had him pick me up rye bread from the store so I could make french toast with bananas and he did but he also brought me breakfast pizza. And I ate it! Only one piece but come on! I also bought Simply Orange orange juice and I never drink my calories. That's a coke and orange juice. Not to mention I haven't ran since Thursday and my chest is so heavy and full I have no intention of running today either. Darn H1N1 anyway. I don't think we've ever all been THIS sick. And I can't believe I'm letting it be an excuse to eat and drink what I want when I've been so good. I guess I let my guard down and I need to get back in control. I think confessing this will be my first step. Thanks for being there!

Morning all! Well... I weighed in this morning and it puts me up 2.4 lb. Not sure how. I'll try not to stress about it, but it certainly is a head-scratcher. All I can think of is that maybe my scale did a hiccup last week when I weighed in... but I had worked hard and really "felt" the loss last week... but I don't feel the gain this week. Oh well. I give up trying to figure it out. Maybe it is all PMS. So I have gone from Biggest Loser to Biggest Gainer (probably) in one week. Go figure.

I do have a birthday party to attend later tonight and I will TRY to not let my discouragement at the scales make me feel like EATING!

I'm off to hit the treadmill. I took yesterday off from exercise, so no skipping today! I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!.................P

Last week I had a considerable loss (for me) and this week, of course, -.2 I would so rather see a slow and steady decline. This hurchy-lurchy business drives me a little batty! Unfortunately, I don't really get to choose.

Hilariously when I put it in the WW website, I accidentaly put in a number that is 20 pounds heavier than the scale read. You know what it said?

"So, you gained a bit this week. Is this what you expected? If it is, you probably have some ideas about what to change this week."

I love that 20 pounds is "a bit"

Lynsey - It sounds like you're being really hard on yourself. When your family is sick, it's important to stay on track with your food and workouts. When YOU are sick, though, you need to do what you have to do to get through it. If your stomach isn't up for all the fruits and vegetables and other whole foods, substituting things that sound good, that your body will accept, even if you wouldn't normally eat them, is better than eating or eating something that makes you feel worse, IMO. You havent been feeling up to working out - that's OK - it happens to everyone. Your body needs the rest more. You don't lose much conditioning in even a whole week of missed workouts. I hope you feel better soon! The main thing is getting right back on track when you're well, and it sounds like you're ready to do just that.

Pam - I hear ya - the scale can be sooo unpredictable. I bet your loss will show up again next week. It seems like this is happening more to me as well as I get closer to goal. Not sure why that would be, but I can tell you, I'm not a fan either! Good luck with your birthday party tonight!

Question of the Weekend 10/24 & 10/25

What song(s) get you motivated or inspired? Is there a song that everytime you hear it, it just makes you say "that is just how I feel"

Hi everyone!
So, this is my very first day...I have about 80 lbs to lose, so I'll be apart of many challenges to come.

Do any of you use anything specific to log your daily food/calorie intake? DH is doing this too and we are both the kind of people that need something visual..."you've eaten this many calories - you have this many left" OR "make sure you have x amount of proteins, fruits, veggies, etc." that we can post on the fridge to look at every day. Any suggestions?

It's nice to meet you all...I look forward to losing with you!

Welcome!

I use fitday.com. However I'm ready to switch because their food search stinks. I have to go somewhere like myfitnesspal.com to get food values and create a "custom food". Grrrr.

So, I can't strongly advocate for any site, but look at sparkpeople.com or myfitnesspal.com. There are great tracking tools on the web.

Ronda

I hear you about being sick. I have barely left bed since Thursday afternoon, and eating quite poorly. I haven't eaten a lot, and what I have eaten hasn't been great. Yesterday DBF said he was going to make me soup - bless him - but then brought me cup of noodles... so bad for you! But he always makes it to make me feel better - he puts hot sauce and spices in it. Other than that, it's been crackers and toast. Ugh. I really hope I start feeling better soon. I am better than yesterday though. I agree though - when you are sick, you have to eat what your body will let you.
Darn that sickness!

Great QOTD... I will think about it and try to narrow it down - I have a lot.

Question of the Weekend 10/24 & 10/25

What song(s) get you motivated or inspired? Is there a song that everytime you hear it, it just makes you say "that is just how I feel"

Well--no one has ever spoken to me like Trent Reznor (NIN)--Closer, Heresy, Head Like Hole etc.-- I feel those songs with every fiber of my being. Also I'm afraid of Amercans--Bowie and Reznor.

On a much lighter note though-- and what you're going for I'm sure ;) :

Pennies from Heaven:
A long time ago
A million years BC
The best things in life
Were absolutely free.
But no one appreciated
A sky that was always blue.
And no one congratulated
A moon that was always new.
So it was planned that they would vanish now and them
And you must pay before you get them back again.
That's what storms were made for
And you shouldn't be afraid for
Every time it rains it rains
Pennies from heaven.
Don't you know each cloud contains
Pennies from heaven.
You'll find your fortune falling
All over town.
Be sure that your umbrella is upside down.
Trade them for a package of sunshine and flowers.
If you want the things you love
You must have showers.
So when you hear it thunder
Don't run under a tree.
There'll be pennies from heaven for you and me

I have the Bing Crosby, Louis Armstrong, but like the Mcguire sisters the best-- much more upbeat.

Do any of you use anything specific to log your daily food/calorie intake? "
I just use a notebook. I write down what I ate / plan to eat and the calories. I total the calories along side and use that to help me make the decision on what to eat or not eat.
