Biggest Loser 8 Fall Challenge -- for losers and maintainers!

Tuesday QOTD: What is one thing you can commit to do today (or tomorrow if you're reading this late) that will help you in your weight loss journey?

I did not sabotage my workout this morning by having fast food for lunch when DH went out at noon. :thumbsup2

Okay, your Jillian fans, found this while I was looking for hints about tonight's show: http://www.nbc.com/casting/#jill for your Jillian fans. Jillian can come to your house!?! :scared1:

Yeah, she would HATE my house and the food I have in it! I'll just watch her yell at other people and pretend it's me! Did you see her Master the Metabolism? Very fascinating!

:lmao: I know what you mean! I haven't seen Master the Metabolism. I actually don't mind Jillian, she says what needs to be said sometimes. I just don't want her saying it to me.

That's exactly what I mean! She can yell at anyone but me!:scared1:

I just realized that I've lost 10 pounds since starting my journey with all of you! I would love to lose 20 more but I hope to make it to another 10 by the end of the challenge!

Great job everyone! Thanks for the laughs and encouragement! I am so excited about all the new friends I have made so far! Keep up the great work!

LisaH--that is a beautiful turtle!

Tuesday QOTD: What is one thing you can commit to do today (or tomorrow if you're reading this late) that will help you in your weight loss journey?
I will commit to getting the new computer set up. I have been stubbornly putting it off. This dang thing has 7 years of stuff on it....sigh. The less time I spend struggling and stressing over this pc- the more time I have to Move.

Hey all. It's been awhile. I have done pretty darn horrible for the past 2 weeks. I gained over 5 last week and have probably gained at least another 5 this week. I have been on track today and feel good about that. I will hopefully be able to continue it tomorrow. I need to do some really introspection and see what is going on. I don't want to undo all the good work that I have done. I would love to come on here more but the schedule has not allowed it lately. Maybe I can get on a little more now that my dear mother in laws wedding is over. I know it helps me to come here and get support and read the posts of everyone elses trials and triumphs!

Sarah

:grouphug: Sarah, sorry you're struggling. Sometimes life gets in the way, but you are a highly motivated person (just look at how much you've already done!) and I know that with some time to think, you'll find you're motivation and focus again :flower3:

Okay, its getting late, but I'm managing to squeeze the results post in on Tuesday (at least its still Tuesday on the west coast!) :goodvibes

Here we celebrate our progress and recognize our superstars.

-after 3 weeks of no reporting, you are dropped from the challenged – can re-start at any time, though :goodvibes

Before the weekly superstar list comes the disclaimer. I am human and I make mistakes. If you have any questions please contact me. For your reference this is the magic percentage of weight lost formula - weight loss for the week divided by weight for last week times 100, that gives us the percentage. Now let me test that with my numbers for week 1, click, click, click goes the calculator. Yes, that agrees with the percentage on the magic spreadsheet.

Now let's get to the good stuff. Who were our superstars of week X? This week I’ve went with a simple TOP 10 LIST! That criteria may change from week to week. Hey I'm in charge here and I get paid nothin' to do this so you better take what you can get!;);):rotfl: (and if there’s something you want to know, just ask me!)

Thanks to ohMom-Molli for these clippies. They were used for a previous BL but we can recycle. Don't they look great!

I just finished the 3 mile WATP! I did the 2 mile this morning! Think I'll actually sit and relax during BL! Maybe some water and lite popcorn!

Everyone enjoy tonight!

Nice job on the workouts!! I hope you enjoyed your popcorn and tv time!!

Sorry to hear about your difficulties!! It is a good idea to spend some time thinking about why things ae going the way they are right now. Try thinking back to how you felt when you started this healthy living journey. What motivated you to start? What was keeping you motivated? Could you get that feeling back?

One day at a time.... one meal at a time... even one BITE at a time... is all you need to think about right now. Make a commitment to yourself to have a healthy breakfast today. If that is all you can do, so be it! Tomorrow committ to a healthy breakfast AND lunch. Friday make it a healthy breakfast, lunch, and a 15 minute walk. Stick with that plan for the weekend. Just a healthy breakfast and lunch and a short exercise time. If you feel motivated to do more, GREAT. Otherwise, don't sweat it. Come Monday morning see how you feel.... if you are ready to add more, then do it. Otherwise, stick with the breakfast, lunch, and mini-exercise for next week.

Try going to the grocery store and buying some new healthy foods. Try a new fruit or vegetable. Look for some new healthy recipes. Try to find a FUN food that you can eat on plan. I LOVE Subway sandwiches. I find them very filling and they feel like fast food, but I can easily fit them into my daily calories.

Go back and read some of your old food journals. What were you eating when you had a great week on the scales? Were you planning your meals ahead more? Plan all of your meals for the next 5 days RIGHT now, if that would help. Take inventory of your fridge, freezer, and pantry and see what kind of fun, filling, healthy meals you could plan!

I hope you can find your "diet-mojo" again. You were doing so well.

ANYHOW.... WOOHOO for me! I am a Big Loser! (See, those kids in middle school called me a loser and I didn't appreciate it back then!! :rotfl:)

I don't expect to reach this status again, since I am closing in on my goal weight, but it feels GREAT to see my name there this week!! I have been doing challenges on the WISH board for over a year now and this is only the second or third time that I have achieved BL status! Thanks again to our coaches and LuvBaloo! I LOVE having this group here to keep me moving in the right direction!! You all are my "free" WW meeting every day!! .............P

Congrats pjlla!

I did enjoy BL last night. DH ate most of the popcorn!

Sinuses are still annoying me but I did the 2 mile workout anyways. Going to do the Wii Fit after taking DD2 to preschool. Then gotta pick up DD1 from her half day and get supplies for DD2s b'day party on Sunday!

Also, DH and I are doing a chili and dessert cookoff at his office so I'm getting supplies for that so we can experiment. We love cooking together. I'm making a chocolate chip coffee cake that is just awesome for the dessert!

Congratulations to all the BL this week, especially to Pjlla - such a high % when you are so close to your goal. Great job!!

I was one of the gainers this week. It wasn't much and I sort of expected it since I was cutting back on exercise to rest for my marathon. I am happy to report that the race went really well for me despite the cold, wind and rain. I ran it in 3 hours 59 minutes and 12 seconds which is 2 min and 45 seconds faster that I've ever run and it also qualifies me to run in the Boston Marathon. I am thrilled beyond words, I've been working for that for so long.
At one point during the race I was going through a really tough spot. I was tired, my legs hurt, I knew I was slowing down and thought I was not going to meet my goal of finishing in under 4 hrs. Somehow I managed to stick with it and not give in to all the negative chatter going on in my head and sure enough I was rewarded with meeting my goal. I had a bit of an "aha" moment afterwards in that meeting my weight loss goal is very much like meeting my marathon goal. I quite often feel like I am never going to get to my weight goal (still 8 to 10 lbs away). But I realized that if I don't give up and just keep doing all the things I know will help (journaling, drinking water, strength training) I will move closer to my goal and I will eventually will get there.

I'm not sure I will have a loss this week either since I'm doing a lot of celebrating and taking the entire week off from anything other than short walks. Most of the celebrating has come in the form of yummy treats that I have put off having while I was training. I should probably have a better strategy for rewarding myself.

Have a great day everyone.
Cindy

Just a quick hello, and I'll be back after work to post more. Went to my ww meeting, this quote was on the board there.
Success is measured by perserverance, not by pounds.
It really strikes home with me this week. We all have our ups and downs, but we are all here still, and we are all succeeding in our goals, though they may take us longer than we like, as long as we don't give up, we will get there.

Keep smiling and keep trying.:)

Congrats pjlla! I've been #2 in the past, but haven't ever made #1 on the list yet! It won't be this week either, but maybe next week!

Congratulations to all the other losers and maintainers, and a big hug to all the gainers. Just keep swimming!

50sjayne Good luck on the computer! I'm sure that's an all day project, and not a fun one.

lisah0711 Great job on passing up the fast food! One of the girls at work last night went and got McDonalds for all of us, and I caved and ate a snack wrap and sm. fries.

sahbushka Welcome back! I've been horrible the last couple weeks too, so bad that I skipped weigh in last week. I have a horrible cold and I've been turning to comfort food. Just know we have friends here who understand what we're going through and we can do it!

Wednesday QOTD: What is your favorite meal to fix for your family that's healthy enough for you to eat it without making any special adjustments for your diet?

The most healthy thing we have is probably pork chops on the grill served with broccoli and cheese and applesauce. I find myself looking for ideas lately, so I thought maybe if we all shared we could come up with some new ideas!

Wednesday QOTD: What is your favorite meal to fix for your family that's healthy enough for you to eat it without making any special adjustments for your diet?

EXCELLENT question!! I have a SUPER curried chicken recipe that makes a HUGE serving for very few points that I try to make every few weeks (especially in the fall/winter). Served over brown rice and it is a full meal. DD and DH like it also (DS can't eat chicken) so it is pretty much a win-win for me! I have shared the recipe before here, but I will again if anyone is interested.

I look forward to hearing everyone's answer and PLEASE share recipes if you can!! .....................P

GREAT JOB pjlla...and i'm excited for you that you are THAT close to goal!!

QOTD -- i'm going to have to think on this one, it's been a whlie since I planned meals using WW recipes. Last night I made brown rice, stir-fry veggies with shrimp and I ate that along with my family. I just measured out my portions

Something about this really speaks to me - I mean, obviously we measure some successes in pounds, especially here, but the main thing is really not how much we lose in a week or how fast we achieve your goals. Unless you're trying to lose 5 pounds to fit into a dress on one day, it really has to be about long-term viability and

Wednesday QOTD: What is your favorite meal to fix for your family that's healthy enough for you to eat it without making any special adjustments for your diet?

The question really is which of my recipes is the rest of the family most likely to eat. Here's one that everyone likes, though, because you put the toppings on that YOU like:

Pasta Fiesta
Serves 6

1/2 pound Rigatoni or other medium pasta shape, whole grain if you like it!
1 16-ounce can black beans, rinsed and drained
1 1b Fire roasted crushed tomatoes
1/2-1c. Pace Chunky Salsa

GARNISH:
Salsa (your favorite)
Sour cream or yogurt
Shredded Cheddar Cheese
Tomatoes, diced
Green Onions, chopped
Bell Peppers, chopped
Jalapenos

Cook pasta according to package directions. Drain and set aside.

In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the beans, tomatoes and salsa until hot. Set aside.

Put pasta on plates, top with warmed black bean mixture
Top with garnishes of your choice.

SERVING SUGGESTIONS: Raw baby carrots and fresh fruit salad.

For those who MUST have meat, I made this with some pre-cooked, pre diced chicken for my FIL one time - just served the meat warmed and right along with the rest of the toppings.

Wednesday QOTD: What is your favorite meal to fix for your family that's healthy enough for you to eat it without making any special adjustments for your diet?

Hmm - I don't think there's anything that I don't have to make any adjustments to. But, I don't think we do too badly in what we cook. Probably the best thing is when we have baked chicken and I have lots of veggies as my side dish.

CONGRATULATIONS PJILLA!!! GREAT work, keep it up!!
Also a HUGE congratulations to everyone who made the top 10 list, it is truly an accomplishment that is deserving of praise!! :worship:

Surprisingly, I lost another pound! With family in town, the Bronco game, missing workouts and the like, I am TRULY surprised!:confused3

I did manage to get to the gym last night (finally) and it felt GREAT!! My nephew also just got our financial planning done last night and I am excited to be FINALLY on a budget and planning for our future & retirement!! I truly thought we were going to get horrible news. But, if we just manage our money, we are right on track for retirement :woohoo: That was not at all what I was expecting to hear, so I am very hopeful on the financial front!

Wednesday QOTD: What is your favorite meal to fix for your family that's healthy enough for you to eat it without making any special adjustments for your diet?

I LOVE this question!! I came up with the single most delicious and easy recipe EVER!! It is so universal and can be used in so many ways, is low-fat, high protein and low cost believe it or not!

Green Chile Chicken
Boneless skinless chicken breasts and thighs (about 2-3 of each-can use just breasts as well, but I find the thighs give it a much better taste)
Season with garlic salt & garlic powder (to taste, I season heavily)
1 large (or 2 small) cans of Green Enchilada Sauce
1 large can of chopped green chiles
1 small can jalapenos (can omit if you don't like spice)

Place approx. 1/2 cup of sauce in bottom of roasting pan (cast iron pan)
Liberally season chicken and place on top of sauce.
Top chicken with 1/2 of remaining sauce
Cover, cook @ 250 degrees for 3-4 hours
After 3 hours, take out of oven and "shred" chicken with 2 forks
Stir in remainder of sauce, add can of green chiles and cook for an additional hour

We use this chicken for
-tacos
-green enchiladas
-tostadas
-wraps and more... Freezes very well...

I make this at least once a week and my kids LOVE IT!!!

Oh.... I just thought of one more answer for the QOTD.

Baked potato night! I will bake up a bunch of nice russett potatoes and make a "toppings" bar with things like homemade cheese sauce, chili, homemade bacon bits, salsa, sauteed onions, light sour cream, etc. I just make sure to pick a small potato for myself (and I'm a bit obsessive so usually I weigh it to make sure it is close to 3 oz.) Then I can measure and add whatever toppings I choose! And I can make the cheese sauce as healthy or fattening as I want too! We just did this a few nights ago and the kids (as usual) loved it. I made some steamed green beans for a side and we were all set! Sometimes I use homemade chili, but I was rushed last time so it was a good quality canned chili with extra canned diced tomato and beans added.

This is also an excellent way to get rid of small bits of extras in the fridge.... like leftover steak or roast(chopped smaller and warmed), leftover pulled pork, leftover veggies, etc. So it is healthy, easy, AND a budget meal!! It wins the triple crown!......P:lmao:

Wednesday QOTD: What is your favorite meal to fix for your family that's healthy enough for you to eat it without making any special adjustments for your diet?

Great question!

I have a yummy homemade mac and cheese with ham that make. I found the recipe in Cooking Light last year. I will try and find it tonight and post it tomorrow.

So, I am doing good right now. I went to the doctor this morning for the first time in 13 years! I told my new doctor about our challenge and doing WW and she was impressed with my efforts. It's a start.

It is a very gray and rainy day in MN, I hope the rest of you have some better weather!

Have a Magical Day!!!!pixiedust:
