Hi, having a kind of bad afternoon. Was up too late last night reading.
Took Snowy in about a year ago for uti which he was treated for an no problems since , but tried to ask for a sedative for him because he is badly matted right now and they said they couldn't give me one because he has a heart murmur. OK I remember the vet (very very young had to be fresh out of vet school, wasn't our normal vet, I took him in as an emergency) saying she thought she heard something, then after listening again said she couldn't hear anything but it's on his chart now I guess.
My husband usually brushes him- he was his favorite cat until Harvey came along in the last year....well he hasn't been brushing him and he's a mess. So I'm trying my best- I tried to locate some rescue remedy,( a calming natural herb thing for cats and dogs) the one place that carries it here was out but they had a small amount in a $25 emergency kit I didn't need so I bought it. I'm usually able to do this but it is so bad. He will bite too--the stinker. He's already bit me pretty hard. I will not take him anywhere though because he is prone to urinary tract infection which is caused by stress in his case--Harvey the kitten was bothering him a lot when he got his uti. (and a diet too high in fish- I switched from chicken soup for the cat lovers soul to the Costco cat food which is awesome). It is very upsetting to me to see him this bad. Today with the rescue remedy, some classical music and a feliway plug in I was able to make a good dent without stressing him too much. I decided to brush him as I go along as he loves it so much. Whew. When he is done- he is getting brushed every day. I think I instilled enough fear in husband as I absolutely went rabid when I found out he hadn't been brushing him....

Snowy had been abandoned and picked up by our local high kill shelter. He'd been there a long time because they coudn't bring themselves to kill him. This was when the shelter was 96% kill rate for cats. He should have been first priority for euthanasia as he was covered in mats when they got him, starving and had a badly infected deep bite wound. But he was a big sweetie pie and handsome as he**. I adopted him when his time was absolutely out.

I snipped my fingers with the scissors too lol so I'm taking a break on him until later tonight. Also the stupid scale was up today a pound. And I exercise yesterday, went for a walk later with my kid, and did my back exercises last night. My body has betrayed me...(and I've been doing all my COW):headache:

Good morning. It's been a stressful week for me. My cousin lost her battle with lung cancer on saturday, and the wake is tonight, and funeral tomorrow. Her sister died 6 weeks ago, and an old friend of mine died 2 weeks ago. They were all in their 50s, and it is a very overwhelming time for me right now. When my friend died, I had just restarted ww, and I did really well staying in control and not comforting myself with food. On sunday morning, I baked brownies, and 5 batches of cookies. I guess it was stress baking. I brought some over to my aunt, and the rest to work, but did eat lots too. Not beating myself up at all. trying to take it one day at a time. My goal for the rest of the week is to get through tomorrow, and get back on track thursday. Pjlla- your words in june keep coming back to me- I can't control what has happened, but i can control how I react to it. Reading through the thread really does help to inspire me, and to motivate me to get back on track. I'll pack a good lunch for work today, and I'll try to do the wii free step as I watch the bl tonight.

Bill- thanks for posting the pics. I only took some of michael on the train. I wish I had taken more. Next time.

For the qotds- my hair is my favorite part of me. I have a nice cut, and I color it myself but I'm lucky to have thick hair.

Not very adventurous with the spices, but tend to add salsa to lots of foods to spice them up. Love newman's pineapple salsa.

Have a good day everyone.

You have certainly had your share of losses lately. Sorry to hear about another one. Good job getting the baked goods away from your sight quickly. And good job for not letting a bit of baked goods sabotage your week.

I'm glad you continue to be encouraged by what I said.

i'm doing HORRIBLE today.....i'm home alone, it's dreary out and i'm just not motivated to do anything! i did get a 2.5 mile walk in this morning, but it all went downhill from there.

You can't be doing that horrible if you actually got up and walked 2.5 mi. Many people don't/can't do that on a good day... so pat yourself on the back, pick yourself up, and keep going!

9/30 QOTD: Do you ever have those days when all you want to do is EAT? (that was a rhetorical question - you don't have to answer it) What do you suggest someone having a "munchy" day should do to get through it without eating off their plan?

TOUGH question! I suppose the easiest answer is to find something else to do.... preferably something AWAY from home and away from the kitchen. Shopping is always fun, but not exactly a "cheap" outing. I do have a strict "no food near the scrapbook table" rule, so I will head to my table sometimes. If you can figure out exactly WHY you have the munchies and what you are craving, sometimes you can give into it a bit.You should keep a list handy of low calorie/low point snacks that you can go do when you are desperate. If you are craving salt, lowfat micro popcorn is always a good solution. Or maybe some Laughing Cow cheese on some salty melba toast or crackers. If you are craving sweet, maybe a cup of sweetened herbal tea, a cup of low calorie cocoa or a light latte, or maybe a Vitamuffin top.

If the snack doesn't do the trick, it probably isn't real hunger, but boredom or stress. You need to find something to take your mind away from the food at this point, for sure. Go for a walk, knit, call a friend.

Is it too late for me to join :confused3 I sure hope not!

I am 36 and a single parent to my wonderful DD:love: I have had weight issues for the last 10 years. I'm tired of yo-yo dieting and it is time to find a way to get healthy and stay healthy. Where I am now as far as weight goes is bad...I way more than I ever have in my life. My have come to the realization that I really need to do something...I'm tired of being tired and having no energy. I hate looking at myself in the mirror and shopping for clothes is no fun at all:sad2: I know I need to do this in babysteps because I didn't put the weight on overnight and it sure as heck won't come off overnight. I have lurked on this thread and I am hoping this will be a great motivator and give me the encouragement to keep going...we are all hear for the same reason!

My goals are:
*Lose 2 pounds a week for a total of 20 by the end of this challenge.
*To start moving to walk at least 4 days a week and hopefully more than that.
*To make better food choices and know when to STOP!
*To NOT quit!

Good luck to all :goodvibes

Pleased to meet you and welcome aboard!!

BTW, if anyone is still interested, the hummus I was talking about a few days ago is the Tribe brand all natural hummus with sweet roasted red peppers. It is only 1 point for 2 tablespoons, whereas the other one I bought recently (can't remember the brand, but the flavor was spinach and artichoke) was 1 pt PER tablespoon. Not sure if the difference is due to the brand or the flavor.

9/29 QOTD: It's important to find new ways to make our foods flavorful and interesting without adding a lot of calories. One of the best ways to do this is with herbs and spices. Do you have a favorite herb, spice or other seasoning?

Well... I'm not a very good cook and I never know what spices should go with what (other than the obvious like oregano and basil with tomato sauce), but I have a curried chicken recipe that I love, so I guess I will say curry. I'm not really into "spicy" but I can adjust the recipe and make it just the right amount of hot/sweet/spicy for my taste. I also like rosemary, especially with chicken, but I am not at all fond of dill or cilantro.

I am excited to see so many BIG LOSERS on the list this week. You folks are really going to give me a run for my money! I really thought I might make the list this week, but it looks like you all blew by me... GOOD JOB!! I'll try harder for this week and next week!......................P

I try to go for things like 94% fat free microwave popcorn (I like the kettle corn) or a big bowl of grapes. Those are about the only things I like that I can mindlessly munch on all day without it costing too many points. It would depend on what kind of diet you're following of course, but works well for WW.

I've had such a long day today. We have a clinical ladder project at work that we work on for a whole year and mine was due at 5pm today. We have to keep track of committe meetings, earn at least 30 CEUs, do educational projects, etc, and then we get a check in about 6 weeks which is what I use for my Disney money each year. I got up at 4am to go to work and get some of my peer evals done by the night shift staff, came home to get the kids off to school, went back to work to get my documentation gathered and go to a meeting, left again to pick my daughter up from school, dropped her off at home, and went back to work to finish up. I ended up turning the book in at 4:40. Nothing like waiting til the last minute! :rolleyes1

I haven't exercised yet today, but I've done a 20 minute Pilates workout for the past 3 days. My tailbone is feeling much better since I got the yoga mat!

DD10 picked McDonalds for her b-day dinner last night, and I had a crispy ranch snack wrap, small fries and a diet Coke. Not great, but not bad considering the choices from there! Then there was that little piece of Mrs. Field's cookie for dessert that had way too much icing on it....I better go exercise now!:yay:

Found out I have some sort of inner ear issues and that is what is causing my dizziness. It was on and off all day today. Sometimes really bad. I still managed to get in W2D2 of Cto5K finally at 6:30. Just finished eating Subway as I've been running all over since I got home from work at 4. Going to take a rest day tomorrow since I do my once a week job in shipping tomorrow and will run my butt off instead of sitting at my desk all day. That and my legs are super tired. I've ran everyday this week so far.

I'm starting a challenge tomorrow to not eat sweets or chips and I'm also giving up my once a week coffee from the local coffee shop for 30 days. The chips won't be nearly as hard as the sweets but I think I can do it. I'll miss the coffee most of all I think. I'm really hoping that a month without it will make me not even crave it anymore. Not sure that's possible though. Wish me luck!

QOTD

I was doing great today but then indulged in twice as many peanut butter-filled pretzels that I normally eat..UGH! What I normally do is drink a huge glass of water and go on a 3-5 minute walk, that usually does it for me. As far as today goes, I will just add an extra half mile or so to my walk...no need to sweat the small stuff....(glad it wasn't chocolate or something like that right?:lmao:

Good attitude and plan to get back on track! :thumbsup2

Sorry about your kitty being sick. I would have never thought of RescueRemedy for kitties, too. :confused3 I like it for myself sometimes. If you have Fred Meyer where you live, they usually have it.

Wow! I just finished watching the BL show with my DS -- he is into now, too. ;) It was a surprising show. This is my first season so I imagine it gets more cut throat as the season progresses.

9/30 QOTD: Do you ever have those days when all you want to do is EAT? (that was a rhetorical question - you don't have to answer it) What do you suggest someone having a "munchy" day should do to get through it without eating off their plan?

Yes, I get those days where all I want to do is EAT -- especially lately with the cooler weather. I have been having some success asking myself if I am really hungry and what it is I really want. If I am really hungry, I try to eat something that is a fruit or veggie or even a glass of chocolate milk. A lot of times, I am just bored or frustrated. If that is the case, then I try and find something else to do that I would enjoy and skip the eating.

I like what Maria said about hunger not being an emergency. I also like the tire analogy -- reminds of one that Shannon found about the dishes.

Have a great night all!

I am having one of those days today. It was crazy and not a lot of fun at the inservice this morning. It really bugged me. I also was busy all day long so lunch was on the run today. So that I don't eat like crazy I am trying to stay away from the kitchen. I will probably get a cup of tea and then sit down and knit some.

Congrats to all the BL's this week

 Sorry for the tough day, donac. As a parent I am always amazed at how much time teachers have to spend in meetings. Almost always their time would be better spent preparing for class or being in class teaching. :flower3:

First of all, a BIG congratulations to TammyAlphabet, our biggest loser! And the pefect COW score from Redwalker - amazing! Great work from everyone last week, whether the scale showed a loss or maintain or gain, kudos to you for being here and working toward a slimmer future!

reading the latest posts has me energized and motivated today! that and yesterday I had a routine check with my Dr. 2 weeks ago had a cholestrol and glucose labs done and my results were very good! he said my 'good' cholestrol is 17 pts higher than the recommended for females and bad cholesterol was under 200. i think it was 183

Great to see you again, Molli! I'm glad the visit went well and am also glad that your life is going to return to more normal now for you! Great news from the doc! It's always nice when the tests come back the way we want to - 17 points high for the good cholesterol is amazingly good!

I'm really close to changing my points for WW, so I'm going to try to cut back by 1 pt/day for the rest of the week. I have a vague memory of that being a strategy so it isn't so hard when you have to move to fewer points. This is the point where I always eat a bunch of stuff I shouldn't because mentally I can't get over this hurdle. Well, it used to be. This time I am going full throttle!

Maria, I had not heard this about proactively changing your points (I am never sure when my points are going to change and it seems like whenever I randomly go and play with the calculator, it turns out that I should have changed them already. SO easily confused over here. I know you'll get through the transition - it is definitely always a few days of feeling like there's not quite as much food as you're used to, but then it turns into the new "normal."

It is so sad - they were all so young. And to lose so many people so quickly, Kathy, my heart goes out to you.

I don't use a lot of spices but I use garlic in almost everything. I'm trying to go away from that so I don't get so much sodium. Is there a lower sodium garlic salt out there like Mrs. Dash or something?

I started a weight loss blog (again) yesterday. It will more than likely be BO-RING but if you'd like, go ahead and check it out. I'll post it in my siggy. I had a blog for my family but later deleted it and made a blog about my girls only. Then I added a weight loss blog and it didn't go very far. I did lose some weight and posted some before and during photos but I just stopped it like everythign else. I decided not to restart that one but to start fresh and just delete all the others. This time I'm trying to go about things a whole new way all around.

I almost always use fresh garlic, but the freeze dried or jarred stuff is handy as well, and not as salty. You could also mix your own less salty garlic salt by blending garlic powder and a smaller amount of salt or salt substitute and keep it in a shaker.

Did the 2 mile workout and then I have to give a 75 minute massage this morning (that's a good workout) and then I will come home and do the Wii Fit and maybe take a walk around the neighborhood listening to some fast paced tunes!

I am always amazed by massage therapists - it takes a lot of endurance and strength to do a long massage like that!

I love coriander but sis does not so I have taken to adding a little seasoned Japanese rice wine vinegar to soups, stews. It actually makes things taste "saltier" for some reason, which is nice since I no longer use salt.
We also use dried kale in everything possible.

I have never tried dried Kale! Is that a nutritional or flavor based seasoning? Is it just with the other spices in the grocery store? I have some Japanese rice wine vinegar, but not a seasoned variety. What a great idea!

Still doing mega housecleaning for MIL visit on Friday. It's not that the house was super dirty, it just is one thing leads to another. Must be getting a little tired of it because I was thinking "why do I have to clean for longer than they are visiting?!?" Oh well, I've had some good activity points out of it.

That is such a good point about cleaning longer than they are visiting! Are you still working on that or is everything all squared away now? I also love the red pepper flakes but so rarely think to use them!

I am also very excited to get back on track after all the funeral stuff last week. I exercised yesterday and I am going to today also. It feels good to move.

Molly,
I'm impressed that you are back on track after the funeral. Times of loss are one of those things we can't control and that have the potential to throw us way off track. Way to get those workouts done!

Well all...I am back.
My wedding reception was last weekend, so the stress and time commitment from that is over and I can focus. For those who don't know, my husband and I got married September 25, 2008, Disneymooned April 2009 and had our reception last weekend. We are actually thinking about sneaking back to Disney again this year with our wedding present money and the buy 4 get 3 promotion. I am still in the decompress mode this week and will do my first weigh in on Friday. I don't want to know what it will look like!

My company went out of business in May and between stress, depression and boredom, a year's worth of weigh loss went out the window in a matter of a few weeks! :sad2: I am still unemployed, so the stress is still high there, but I started grad school a few weeks ago, so I don't have time to be depressed or bored! I am in an accelerated full time program and still looking for a job, so I am more than busy!
/QUOTE]

It sounds like it was quite a time! Congratulations on the final segment of your marriage celebration! It's good you have a few days between your reception weekend and your first weigh in - whatever it is, it's bound to go down from here, right?

I also got my entire family on the "healthy bandwagon" this weekend. We go on family walks (1-2 miles) every night and I have committed to working out (including swimming now..yippee) at least 4X per week. DH told me he would get my $20 in Disney Dollars for every week I work out at least 4X per week. This would be total "free mommy money" for my trip and, yes, that too motivates me

That's a really great thing your DH is offering you! I love how it is action based reward and not result-based reward. Good luck with your work challenge and new gym! It sounds like a lot of fun!

I've missed a couple of days on the two servings of veggies COW. I think mikamah should get an honorable mention for the COW this week because she inspired the WISHers at the Dismeet to each their vegetables! :thumbsup2

Here here! Bonus points for getting other WISHers to eat vegetables!

Things continue to be crazy around here. I worked a over 30 hours this weekend- that was in 2 and a half days, and that was just at Worlds of Fun. My restraint training is finally over, so I actually have time to get things done. My principal also talked to my para and I'm hoping that things will go better.

It's good to hear you are getting more into the regular routine of school. I often think of you in your challenging classroom and wonder where you find the strength. I sure hope things go better for you from here on out!

Great QOTD! I LOVE spicy food, so I LOVE spices... We use a lot of cilantro, but the one we are continuously restocking is cumin. The spicier the spice, the better.

Mmm. Cumin! That is a tasty one in soup and really anything with a southwestern flair!

I've been having a pretty good week. I've started keeping track of WW points and have been writing everything down.

Yesterday I went to the gym and did Body Pump, and today I went and walked/ran 2 miles. I walk 1/10th mile, run 2, walk 1, run 2.

I'm feeling blllllahhhhhhh this week as my monthly visitor is here (sorry for you men). I always feel so fat at this time of the month!

I've had the same visitor this week - it is not the most fun, that is for sure. However' we should be done before long, at least, right? Great job getting the workouts in in spite of the loagy monthly feeling. Also great job starting to count the points and writing things down - that makes such a difference for me, I know. Keep up the great work!

I walked 5 miles at the track tonight while DH and DD1 were at soccer practice. 1/2 mile of that was jogging. I was good all day food and water wise! I feel great about it. Don't know if I'll get that much in tomorrow but I enjoyed my day and workout time today. I was up 2 pounds as of this morning from last week which really motivated me to stay focused today!
!

Wow! 1/2 mile of jogging and 5 miles altogether! Great job! You're heading in the right direction now, for sure. It's great you're able to use the scale as motivation to stay focused instead of getting depressed and giving up. Good going!

A big,big
I am also impressed by how many people lost last week -- about 2/3! As a maintainer last week, I find that inspiring. Don't know if I will join that group this week becuse I have a little mental block thing going on and gained 2 lbs. -- hmmm, think there is a connnection?!? (YES!) Going to work really hard to ditch those 2 lbs before weigh in on Friday and keep on going.

It was definitely a big losing week last week! But they can't all be - maintaining is worth celebrating as well. You know, my weight has been up a little the past few days as well - I wonder if there is something in the air....or maybe it's the change of season and the shorter days. Darn these transitions! Hopefully those extra couple of pounds go back to wherever they came from before Friday!

QOTD...ha I don't really have an answer!! :) I will walk, scrapbook, something to keep myself away from the kitchen...brush my teeth, the usual...I'll be watching for some extra help, I need it!

I hope you've gotten some more good ideas - the ones you've got already are good ones, though!

Walk the dogs, go to the library, anything just tire yourself out (those of you with kids will already be tired) busy your mind etc.

DO NOT sit in front ot the telly (or refridgerator)
Of course, if I knew how to get away from food, I would have lost more than 2lbs in 3 weeks:rolleyes1

2 pounds in 3 weeks is great- don't underestimate your accomplishment! I like your idea of busying your mind. How much of overeating comes from feeling lonely or bored, right? Best to get away from the food that is just sitting around waiting to be eating, I think you're right!

::yes:: we are going to stomp all over that 500 group goal and then set a new one!:thumbsup2

Well, usually I end up eating.:goodvibes
But I'm trying to eat something with 0 points like a some raw cauliflower, or a red bell pepper, and to drink since sometimes I'm hungry because I'm thirsty. I do find that dis'ing and exercising help. Last night I was in the mood for some chips and salsa, and actually bought some salsa to go with the open bag of chips at home. But by the time I got the kids to bed, and then I had promised myself that I'd do some stepping watching BL, so I got that done, and then I had promised I'd get our BL results post done, so I did that, and then I had to get caught up in my Farmville harvesting, and then it was time for bed, so no chips and salsa! That was just a long way of agreeing with previous posters, and saying do some exercising or something that you can't eat while doing:thumbsup2

I can't believe you never got around to eating the chips and salsa! That's so awesome!

Here is what I wonder: is it actually possible for us to lose 1,000 pounds over the course of this challenge? It's almost too cool to think about. Has it ever been done before?

Next time I am going to try writing in my journal, going for a walk, doing a Leslie Sansone DVD. There has to be a better way then sabotaging myself.

Sooooo true, and great ideas! I know what you mean about getting your head in gear. So much of it is mental on days like that!

Yeah - yesterday was one of those days! I had all intentions of getting back op after our vacation - but everything was calling my name yesterday. But, I did have a big salad with dinner and ate a LC for lunch. Drank all of my water and then some - so I guess I had some successes. When I'm usually having one of those days - I find staying busy helps - shopping, running errands, walking or going to the gym. And, if that doesn't work and I come home and still want to eat - a piece of sugar free gum does wonders for me. It's "sweet" and satisfies my need to chew.

Sometimes a transition back on track after vacation is the better way to go. It can be hard to go from the fun and adventure of travel and more relaxed eating back to everyday in just one night.

Don't forget drinking about 60oz of water will speed your metabolism up by 3% according to Jillian Michaels!

Oh, good tip! I hadn't heard those numbers before but it makes you realize that it really can be the little things that make a difference!

Tea and knitting - that sounds like the perfect distraction from the kitchen! There is something so satisfying about tea, isn't there? I need to get back into the tea habit.

Those days are the hardest! I definitely have them! I like all the great suggestions so far to get through a "munchy" day. I like to distract myself -- going on the DIS is great. I'll find one of those threads -- "My MIL is ruining my trip, she's paying but I want to plan it", or a mostly finished, long TR, and enjoy reading.

My other tip is from The Beck Diet Solution. I had to read this sentence several times for it to sink in -- Hunger is not an emergency. It's ok to feel hungry for a little while. You know when your next planned meal or snack is. Why is it you really can't wait? Are you actually thirsty and need a glass of water? Are you eating because you are stressed, good or bad? I also need to employ this more -- thinking about whether eating now will help me achieve my long term goal. Am I fueling my body, or just fooling myself?

Maria, you crack me up - Those threads do sound like diverting reading! I remember reading that in the Beck book - it's true - sometimes we can tolerate some hunger and it's not so bad. Sometimes we aren't even hungry but that urge to eat seems undeniable.

Welcome to you, MinnieGal! You are in good company - I think we've all been there, hating the mirror, hating shopping. You really CAN do this and your goals are great. The most important one is the last one, in my opinion. Keep working at it with patience and commitment, and you're sure get where you want to be!

I used to have a longhaired cat and he'd sometimes get a bit matted - it's a challenge, but it sounds like you are helping him as best you can, a little at a time. They can only take so much of that snipping, it seems. I sometimes had good luck with just getting the clump cut in half, then going back to it the next day and it would have loosened a little on its own.

Don't worry about the pound today - your muscles are using some extra water for their repair and rebuild projects you gave them.

Such great ideas for the munchy days! I love that laughing cow cheese and vitamuffins! And thanks for the name of the hummus! 1 point per tablespoon adds up so FAST in a dip or spread. Better than mayo, I suppose!

I was wondering about your yoga mat! I'm so glad it's helping. Pilates is so much tougher than it looks - those moves always make me actually sweat! Sounds like you navigated that birthday dinner as well as you could - I hope your daughter had a happy birthday!

Oh no - not inner ear issues! It is amazing that you are still running even with the dizziness! It does sound like a rest day is in order - some experienced runners do run every day, but most seem to take at least a couple of days off a week to rest and rebuild or crosstrain. Congratulations on your C25K progress! You're doing great with it!

I think it is possible to reduce cravings for those danger foods - sometimes it seems like the more you eat, the more you want. One of my mottos has been "It is easier for me if I just don't start." Because then I don't have to stop, either. Good luck - I know you can do it!

Jumping on to say I'm semi-proud of myself. I had set a goal of 500 minutes of exercising for Sept, and although I didn't meet it, I came close at 450, which I'm happy with since I didn't do any exercising for 5 days when I had a head cold. Next month I'm aiming for 600!:cool1:

ShortyNBug - hope your inner ear things get figured out. It sounds really frustrating :flower3:

Here is what I wonder: is it actually possible for us to lose 1,000 pounds over the course of this challenge? It's almost too cool to think about. Has it ever been done before?

I don't know if its been done, but anything is possible! Let's get to 500 first :thumbsup2

So what do you do to treat that?

Thanks for this- it is good to have reinforcement. That's just what I'm doing with the big ones, working the edges and feeling through the mat by squeezing it in between my fingers and snipping with scissors. I've snipped the tips of my fingers a lot but haven't nicked him. (well a tiny bit but he probably did it himself the first night by sitting on the clippers during a struggle with them on :scared1:) Got myself pretty good today though, my left hand though yay. It's superficial but it's what spawned my baby cry on the board today.
And thanks for the sense about the pound. I hope you're right but I have a feeling it has something to do with how I'm getting my veggies in....on pizza, on nachos, in stew lol! I'm gonna keep doing it my way but reigning myself in on other stuff like...truffles ;)

Well it figures.... I finally have a few minutes of time to check over here and the board has slowed to a crawl!

I hope everyone has a great Thursday. Remember to get your "last chance workout" before tomorrow morning's visit to the "shrine of the scale" :rotfl:. I SO VERY MUCH wanted to hit the snooze this morning and skip the workout, but I dragged myself up and managed at least a brisk 20 minutes. Not nearly enough, but not bad considering I was going to skip altogether. I will actually have an evening at home tonight, since DD is sick and cannot attend tonight's swim meet (and she is not happy about that!), so I will hopefully have time to get in another 20-30 minutes of exercise before I hit the bed for the night.

I'm not expecting a big number on the scale, since I dropped two pounds last week, but I tried hard this week. I didn't skip my workouts during the weekend, and I didn't have a big splurge day like I usually do on Friday or Saturday, so I am hoping for at least a pound.

I didn't make my September exercise challenge number. I missed by about 100 minutes. Guess I will have to step it up for October. I was doing so good earlier this summer, but the busy school/swim practice/robotics/Rainbow Girls/play rehearsal/soccer practice schedule has REALLY cut down on my free time. Essentially if I don't do the exercise first thing in the day, I don't get it in at all! And I forgot my sneakers today, so no brisk walk at lunch time for me today.

Have a super day everyone!.........................P

good morning all....and :welcome: minnieGal

ROCK ON TammyAlphabet and redwalker!!

thanks for all the encouragement everyone....yesterday was better and today will be better still..right? i just got an email from a co-worker to myself and a group of about 5 others to 'challenge' one another to a 10 lb loss in October. I joined in naturally....all the while knowing I have a whirlwind trip to WDW mid-month. pressure!

QOTD for 9/30 was a great one...thanks for all who posted replies as it reinforces in my mind that i'm not alone on those bad days.....and there are plenty who make it through. I agree about the statement of feeling your hunger; I remember Bob Greene saying that...expect to feel hungry sometimes. that's a good thing. it's natural to get that reminder from your body that it's ready to be refueled. Another point he made was that althought it's fun and easy to put the weight on....it WILL take work/effort to shed it. accept it so that it doesn't knock you off track

I don't know if its been done, but anything is possible! Let's get to 500 first :thumbsup2

I think the 1000 pound group goal might be doable but I agree with Shannon, let's get our first goal wrapped up first. :goodvibes

I don't recall a group goal in any challenge in 2009 -- was there ever a group goal challenge before? I don't know. :confused3 That is where the maintainer portion of our challenge will help so those folks who have gone before us on their weight loss journeys can stick around and tell us how they did things in the "olden days!"

And thanks for the sense about the pound. I hope you're right but I have a feeling it has something to do with how I'm getting my veggies in....on pizza, on nachos, in stew lol! I'm gonna keep doing it my way but reigning myself in on other stuff like...truffles ;)

Do you like juice? V8 Fusion juice is pretty tasty and you can get a fruit and veggie serving in with that. I know it's not as good as the real thing but it works in a pinch.

I do think there is a transition period while our bodies adjust to the seasons. I hope my transition time passes quickly!

Have a great, OP day all!

Good morning! Happy October! It's a cold, wet one here, I'm afraid. 45 and rainy is where I draw the line for going out for a run vs. muddling through on the treadmill.

It has been years since I dressed up for Halloween at all, but I'm thinking about it this year. There's still time to get something together, after all! Which brings me to today's question:

10/1 QOTD: Do you plan to dress up for Halloween? If your fairy godmother showed up on the 31st and was prepared to transform you for the evening, what would your costume be?

I'll tell you, I'm torn between something cute and something warm! It would depend on the weather. I think it would be fun to be the White Witch from Narnia.

pjlla -- you really a HUGE inspiration for me right now! your dedication is what i'm lacking and your posts remind me of how awesome it really is to be in "that" place. haven't been there in a while i guess, a year probably.

That is powerful - that is what I am lacking too -being in the "place". Those that have been there know the feeling. I need to get "that place and that feeling" back!!

We're headed out to Foxwoods casino in CT in a little while. DH is going to the Alice Cooper concert, and ds and I are tagging along to enjoy the hotel pool. It's a 2-hour drive, and I packed plenty of healthy snacks. We're planning to take in the Mystic Aquarium this afternoon, maybe I'll even try Mystic Pizza!

Maria :upsidedow

Hope you had fun - I LOVE Mystic Pizza. It was our favorite place we ate when we went to Mystic!!

from mowing and raking :thumbsup2 finally remembered I needed to come send my WI number - lost 2 lbs - first week for me so I was really hoping for a down number to just help with the mojo! Even if I am late sending - it still is a metal accountability to me - so I will do it!

Am having a good weekend went to a wedding -did indulge in a small slice of cake when I found out the bakery - it is my favorite in the area. so I had salad, veggies, and chick for dinner -my trade off of carbs!

my WO today is getting myself "back to the raking and mowing" - break is over - good going to all that ate healthy and exercised this week !

Woo hoo - Awesome job on 2 pounds! Keep up the great work and its great to see you posting :)

Here's a question for you WW pros --

I've been counting hummus as a veggie --is that right, or should it be a protein?

Thanks!
Maria :upsidedow

Definately a protein. It also has tahini in it which has protein (and well fat too, lol - but its a good fat).

9/29 QOTD: It's important to find new ways to make our foods flavorful and interesting without adding a lot of calories. One of the best ways to do this is with herbs and spices. Do you have a favorite herb, spice or other seasoning?

Cilantro is my favorite. I just get happy smelling it :)

Cinnamon and cumin are also favorites as is peppermint in tea :)

9/30 QOTD: Do you ever have those days when all you want to do is EAT? (that was a rhetorical question - you don't have to answer it) What do you suggest someone having a "munchy" day should do to get through it without eating off their plan?

I try to stock my pantry with "low calorie" healthy snacks so if I get feeling snacky I do it with lower calorie items. Hummus and whole wheat crackers or veggies are something I reach for often.

Great question! It's been years since I dressed up for Halloween, too, I can't even think of what I was when I dressed up it's been so long! I'm not planning on dressing up this year.

If my fairy godmother showed up I would probably want a Cinderella dress -- she would need to zap me a Cinderella figure, too. I always did the princess, bride, girlie thing when I grew up in Anaheim. I feel sorry for the girls here in Idaho because it is often very, very cold and/or rainy on Halloween. Those fairies freeze their wings off!

Thanks corinnak for being our coach this week!

Please remember to PM LuvBaloo with your weigh in and donac with your COW numbers tomorrow!

Have a great day all!

Hi everyone, Happy October!!!
I'm happy (well not super happy) to report that my dog woke me up by barking at our decorated Scarecrow on the front porch :lmao:. I seriously though someone was trying to break into my house the way she was barking, then saw the wind blowing the scarecrow all around..laughed so hard.
This was at 4:45am-needless to say I couldn't get back to sleep, so I got dressed and headed out to 24 Hour Fitness (joined yesterday) :cool1:
I got in 30 mins of hard cardio (400 cal burn) and 10 mins of weights/abs and feel GREAT!! I absolutely LOVE getting my workout done in the morning!! I feel so good and don't have the gym looming over me all day!

10/1 QOTD: Do you plan to dress up for Halloween? If your fairy godmother showed up on the 31st and was prepared to transform you for the evening, what would your costume be?

I always dress-up for Halloween, as we are usually in Disney in Oct (not this year-going in Dec). If I could be anyone magically, I would be Megan Fox in Transformers..along with her body (not personality). I think I would give almost anything to be one of those who are "superhot" even for 1 night! :rotfl:

Well since I'm short and plump, I would like to be Cinderella's Fairy Godmother. Ever since I saw her at WDW I thought she would be the perfect character for me. :)

10/1 QOTD: Do you plan to dress up for Halloween? If your fairy godmother showed up on the 31st and was prepared to transform you for the evening, what would your costume be?

Well, I saw this question earlier, but I skipped it because I didn't know how to answer. I still don't know how to answer, but I can share a short Halloween-related weight story. I had to attend our church's "harvest festival" a few years ago (okay... about 8-9 years ago). I had to dress as something from the Bible. I HATED my weight (I was probably near my all-time adult non-pregnant high weight). I didn't want to wear anything "cute" or fitted. I took a large light blue sheet, decorated it with puffy cotton "clouds" and birds and butterflies and I cut a hole in the middle like a poncho and I went as the SKY. ANYTHING to cover my fat. I felt like a cow the whole time. And that is typical of how I have decided on a costume over the last 10+ years. I'm always afraid of looking fat and foolish I guess. Now that I am a decent weight, I don't have any clue what I would want to be. Maybe Cruella?? She is evil, but she would be a fun character to play. I would love to think of something pretty or cute, but I think I would look foolish at my age trying to be Cinderella or Aurora. Maybe I could pull off Alice, as I have the hair already!

Guess I will have to give this question some serious thought if I get called to work that day! All of the teachers dress up for the Halloween parade.

I'm hoping I find the willpower to hit the treadmill HARD tonight for that last chance workout. The day I finally see a "3" in the tens place on the scale I am determined that that will be my Picture of the Day (a scrapbooking project). I would love that day to be TOMORROW. I am so close, I can practically taste it, but Mother Nature has been wreaking havoc with my "female system" lately and I never know when I might end up feeling icky and bloated, so I am trying not to get my hopes up for tomorrow.

Anyone have any good, easy, light recipes to share?? I am struggling with dinner lately. I am so sick of trying to figure out what to make that everyone would like, no one is allergic to, and that I could eat a decent portion of without going over my points. Actually, does anyone own the Biggest Loser Cookbook? I was tempted to buy it, but I don't use cookbooks much and it was full price. Are there any really great family dinner type recipes in there?

I hope to hop on here later tonight, but if I don't get the chance, good night, sweet (light) dreams, and I'll see you tomorrow..........................P
