Biggest Loser 8 Fall Challenge -- for losers and maintainers!

9/26 QOTD: What makes or would make physical activity more enjoyable for you? This can be a thought process, a particular song or songs, special clothes, choice of activity, etc.

Bonus question: What physical activity do you have planned for yourself and/or your family this weekend?

I made a set of songs on my IPOD for working out/mowing the lawn though when I am working out I prefer to watch a movie or show that I love. I really enjoyed doing my elliptical to musicals: HSM3, Mamma Mia, Grease, etc. The music got me going faster.

Our physical activity for the weekend was walking around Cambridge today before the NE DISmeet for the Christmas Carol Train Tour. Hoping to squeeze some Wii in tomorrow since it's supposed to rain here tomorrow.

We're headed out to Foxwoods casino in CT in a little while. DH is going to the Alice Cooper concert, and ds and I are tagging along to enjoy the hotel pool. It's a 2-hour drive, and I packed plenty of healthy snacks. We're planning to take in the Mystic Aquarium this afternoon, maybe I'll even try Mystic Pizza!

Maria :upsidedow

Love Mystic Pizza! We went there two years ago! YUMMY!!!!!!!!! Well worth the trip as was the Aquarium!

Mikamah and Billtm: Great meeting the two of you today! Hope you both got in your two servings of veggies for today! I hope we get to meet up again at another NE Dismeet!

We loved the train and the preview! We waited about 1 hr and 45 minutes but it was worth it and only had to wait to see the preview for about 5 minutes. The girls really enjoyed it and we got to see the carolers while we waited!

I mentioned as part of the QOTD that I was planning on getting a couple new in home walking DVD's....well, imagine my surprise when I find them both at Walmart today!! Of course I got them. 1 is a 5 mile, broken down into 5 different "types" of workouts (arms, thigh, abs etc) and the other is a 3 mile w/ a abs workout at the end. Can't wait to do them both.

That's cool-- that's a real place ;-) Yeah (LuvBaloo) Mystic Pizza was the role that threw Julia Roberts into the limelight.

Well if it involves shopping. Mind you the kind of shopping I do is generally not aerobic but sometimes when I'm just out in the area I'll stop by Costco or Target and speedshop the clearance stuff at Costco (anything ending in .97) and produce and speedshop the endbases at Target. I am a shark at Target, catching any red labels on the aisles as well. This form of shopping at Target is usually on the way to my steward meeting when I only have about a half an hour between work, dinner and the meeting.
I watch The View on the treadmill on days I work late or have off and switch to Clean house, animal precinct or the news on commercials. Walks are much more enjoyable during the spring when people have beautiful flowers and the trees are in bloom. I love seeing everyones Holiday decorations too.
Went to the farms yesterday and got lots of wonderful veggies for cow mistress....Had some amazing nachos yesterday with banana peppers and tomatoes/ff sourcream and cheese and salso. I was in a hurry, kept it simple but in awe of how much flavor the peppers and fresh tomato gave. Gonna do that tomorrow again I think and add some green onions I didn't have time to chop.

for the qotd: Being outside right now is a plus in and of itself. I don't have a treadmill or elliptical (maybe one day, when there is the money and space for one), but when I used to have a gym membership I liked watching tv or movies while on it... I am a big musical fan, so that would work.
Right now I love seeing the colours and the crispness of fall, with my musical pumping and dog running beside me. :)
Cleaning the house all weekend; that is a workout, right?

No wind here -- it was an absolutely gorgeous day!!! (Who knows what tomorrow will bring...)

It started out as a nice breezy day but became a windy, smoky day in the afternoon. With running errands in the a.m. no outside time by the p.m. because it was too nasty. :sad2: Have to enjoy those nice days while we can!

Good morning! We stayed up late watching Biggest Loser Week 2. I was astounded by the program this week. The numbers they were stating for calories in and calories out - 1,200 in and 6000 out per day! I eat more than that, I'm sure, and to burn that much, I would have to run a 6 hour marathon every day. Fortunately, we are on a gentler trajectory to our losses here. Physcial activity plays such an important role in reshaping our bodies and increasing our health, even if we're not burning thousands of calories and many hours per day on it. And since we are doing it, we might as well enjoy it, right?

ITA, corinnak, in the real world we just can't do the same things or get the same results as the biggest losers -- the 1200 calories is doable probably -- but burning 6000 calories a day? Wow! That would be a full time job!

This is a good question because this is the last frontier for me. I have the eating thing down with WW, I have my goals set into mini-goals, I have the mindset and the healthy habits, except for activity :sad2:. That is my biggest goal this challenge. Get that activity habit down as a lifestyle change!

I said I would start C25K this week but haven't -- yet. I am really good at thinking up excuses for not exercising. ;) For today, I am going to wear my pedometer. My MIL is coming in less than a week. I have major housecleaning to do. I will log at least 5000 steps and probably much more today. That will be my physical activity for today. No one is going to make me move but me so I'm on it.

Oh, except for maybe my DS, who said quite matter of factly to me yesterday "it will be easier for you to sit on the floor criss-cross applesauce when you lose some weight, Mom." :upsidedow Isn't that the truth?!?

For me, it's all about running to music, old favorites, rediscovered favorites, and a few new songs that really get me moving. I added 5 songs last night -- this morning (I have an i-pod shuffle that randomly selects my music) I heard REO Speedwagon's "Say You Love Me or Say Goodnight", Sammy Hagar "I'll Fall in Love Again", and some remix of Bryan Adams "Heaven" that's been put to a dance beat and is sung by a woman. I have to keep mixing it up, I've heard ABBA's "Take a Chance on Me" 138 times, so it's being temporarily retired! :thumbsup2

I already did my TM workout this morning -- I did 5 miles and it felt great! I feel confident I have a nsv -- I'm down to 13 min miles. This is huge for me, I could barely handle 16 when I started (and that was walking, not running)! Tomorrow I'm going to do weights.

I only lost .2 this week, so that's a big discouraging. I'm determined to have a bigger loss next week, and I'm going to conduct myself accordingly this weekend. ::yes::

Sounds like fun, Maria! I remember playing Billion Dollars Babies about a zillion times on my portable record player when I was 13!

Just a quick note to say I lost 3.1 pounds this week. I think it was mostly due to having the flu and not eating much for two days. I didn't exercise for three but really stepped it up the last three days. Hopefully this momentum will keep up and I'll have another loss next week. I really want to drop another 9.6 during this challenge to reach my initial goal.

I'm getting behind on QOTDs so I will need to think about them later tonight when things slow down here.

Have a great weekend everyone!

-steve

Sorry about the flu bug. Hope that you are feeling better soon.

Do you mind sharing the titles? Are they Leslie Sansone or someone else?

I think so. I use housecleaning to get activity points on my WW tracker. I think if you are up and moving, you are burning calories. You may not be gaining any cardio or strength benefits but moving is good!

Have a great OP day all!

QOTD 9/26:

I rearrange my bedroom a little and turn my tv so I can see it while on my treadmill. I figure if I'm going to watch a certain show either way, I might as well do it while I'm on there. When I'm outside I use my ipod when I walk. I've been jusy enjoying the quiet though if I'm on my bike.

I have a ton of Walk Away the Pound videos that just got too easy and I wasn't getting my heart rate where it needed to be but that was 20 some pounds and much better shape ago. LOL. I should get the 5 miles one out today and get it done. I started with the 1 mile walk when I had just had my 1st daughter and with that and Curves I lost 30 pounds. I think I bought 6 more after that. A couple years ago I went to Turbo Jam and love love love them. I don't know why I haven't done my videos in so long but I always find an excuse.

I was going to use today as a rest day but I may change my mind and do WATP. I'll let you know what I end up doing.

Sounds like fun, Maria! I remember playing Billion Dollars Babies about a zillion times on my portable record player when I was 13!

Billion Dollar Babies is my favorite. We've seen him a few times--he is incredible in concert.

Ok, I am back again. I slipped off for a while ut now I am back and ready to go!!

I lost 3 pounds this week. I now weigh 192 pounds. I have lost a total of 14 pounds. Now this may seem a bit of an odd number to get excited about to some of you, but over here in the UK, we work our weight out in stones and pounds. A stone is 14 pounds, so I have finally lost my first stone. I have never managed to lose this much ever before. It has really made me feel like I can do this. I want to lose about 5 stones (70 pounds) in total and I am now one fifth close to that goal!!

I have joined a walking club at work. They only walk on Tuesdays and Thursdays but it is great that I can find the time to exercise. I have just said that I will have a go at the C25K program as well. WHo knows how that will pan out but I really want to give it a shot.

Keep up the good work everyone.:cheer2:

Do you mind sharing the titles? Are they Leslie Sansone or someone else?
Sure...

Yes they are Leslie Sansone...they are about the only workouts that I can do. I have tried others and I am just not cordinated enough, even the Biggest Loser gets my feet all tangled up. ;)

The first one is called 5 Day Slim Down. It is a 5 mile but totally customizable to do 1 mile, 2, 3, 4, or all 5. Each mile has a different foucs.
1. Classic Walk
2. Scult your Arms
3. Slim your Legs
4. Trim your Tummy
5. Speed Walk

The other one is called Walk Your Belly Fat. It is a 3 mile workout w/ a 10 min "belly scult" and stretch at the end.

Do you have any of the Walk Slim or others that do intervals of "boosted walking"? Those really help with getting the heart rate up. I have also been known to "modify" the workouts...adding 2 or 3 pound weights during the entire workout, doing some "boosted walking," and of course doing arm moves even when she isn't.

from mowing and raking :thumbsup2 finally remembered I needed to come send my WI number - lost 2 lbs - first week for me so I was really hoping for a down number to just help with the mojo! Even if I am late sending - it still is a metal accountability to me - so I will do it!

Am having a good weekend went to a wedding -did indulge in a small slice of cake when I found out the bakery - it is my favorite in the area. so I had salad, veggies, and chick for dinner -my trade off of carbs!

my WO today is getting myself "back to the raking and mowing" - break is over - good going to all that ate healthy and exercised this week !

If you've forgotten to send in your weigh in, here's your friendly reminder :goodvibes

I knew I would find kindred here. I have been going through my clothes today for the season switch. Unfortunately I have had to buy new clothes because of the weight I have gained over the past year. So I was going through what I have and deciding what to do. I am sending a bunch to the consignment shop, I just don't like them anymore. I have quite a few that will fit once I get rid of some of the weight I packed on. Then there is the rest of my wardrobe that will fit when I lose a lot of the weight I am currently hauling around. Last week was bad for eating right with trying to fit 4 work days into 3 due to the G20 summit being held in Pittsburgh. I was not made to work more than 8 hours in a day. At least not at my age. So no exercise either. Back to eating right ( I refuse to call it a diet) and exercise this week. Hey I have to be able to walk around WDW in December. I have a DATW to keep up with.

Thanks for the vent time.

Kim

Happy Sunday Everyone,

I am so happy it is a new week! Dealing with my Grandpa's funeral this last week has left me physically and emotionally exhausted! :guilty:

I am very motivated to get this week off on a good foot! I am going to exercise after the Vikings game is over. I am also going to incorporate the Walk Slim dvd's that have been mentioned on this board. The 4 and 5 mile dvd's with the boosed walking are awesome!!!! :yay:

I hope evryone has a wonderful Sunday!!! :cheer2:

Molly :disrocks:

Alright, going to do another run for Cto5K... I think I might actually be okay moving on to week 2. We'll see. Haven't been eating horribly, but not incredibly well either. Let's see how it goes! Saw another little loss on the scale this morning. I heard that people who weigh themselves everyday lose more, but I've also heard the opposite, and that people should only weight themselves once a week. Wondering what you all think... "weigh" in on the topic! (I apologize for the horrible pun. hehehe)

I feel that weighing yourself everyday is too much. Once a week is better. Weight fluctualates too much for daily weighing to give you an accurate view. Even weekly weighing only give you a snap shot.

I like exercise to be fun, and now am loving the wii fit. I play it with my son a lot. Also to get out on a nice cool day is always easier than when it's too hot.

This weekend I played the wii last night with my sister in law after a few glasses of wine, and got a late night workout that was so fun, and luckily we didn't hurt ourselves. she's thinking of getting it, and wanted to try things out. Thought she was going to throw her hip out doing the hulahoop. :rotfl:

Mikamah and Billtm: Great meeting the two of you today! Hope you both got in your two servings of veggies for today! I hope we get to meet up again at another NE Dismeet!

We loved the train and the preview! We waited about 1 hr and 45 minutes but it was worth it and only had to wait to see the preview for about 5 minutes. The girls really enjoyed it and we got to see the carolers while we waited!
It was so much fun to meet you Tracy, and Bill. The food was great, and I did get my vegies in too! I would definitely go to another meet. Looks like they're planning the movie in nov, but it's around our wdw trip weekends, so we wouldn't make it. That was a long wait, but fun you saw some carolers. We didn't see them in the morning. The movie looks awesome. Michael entered the contest to be in a movie surfer video, so he was waiting for the phone to ring today, but no luck.

Oh, except for maybe my DS, who said quite matter of factly to me yesterday "it will be easier for you to sit on the floor criss-cross applesauce when you lose some weight, Mom." :upsidedow Isn't that the truth?!?
Kids are so great. Gotta love their honesty.

Congrat on losing that first stone!!!

I haven't had a good eating weekend, but am determined to get back on track. My dbro and dsil visited last night, and we were talking about our trip, and we decided to upgrade the free counter service dining to the regular plan, so we made some adrs. I really need to keep on track now so I can eat then without splitting my pants.

We're going to play monopoly now and have a quiet afternoon. Have a great evening.

That's cool to see she has other videos as I may get bored with doing the 2 miles everyday. I would love to be able to do a 5 mile in the privacy of my own home!
I'll have to check these out at the store next time I go in.

Hope its not to late to join in. I have really been wanting to start working out and watching what I eat but it only last a couple days. I am hoping that this helps and keeps me going. I am a mom of 4 and work full time. I am at 151.5 and need to get to 130. 2 years ago I was at 160 got down to 135 then have gained it all back. Love this site and can't wait to check MOn. I think having others to talk with daily if I need to will help lots!
