Biggest Loser 8 Fall Challenge -- for losers and maintainers!

Good Morning Everyone, DVR'd BL last night and will probably watch it over the next 2 nights. I managed to track my WW pts for the entire day yesterday which lately hasn't happened much. I hope to continue the streak today.

QOTD:
When I can I get out for a walk, especially during the day at work. I also like to play simple computer games. I get on my DS's Webkinz account and play Goober's lab.

Tigger813: Great job on all your workouts.

Corrinak: I always thought your name meant Corrin from Alaska. I love your advice for getting back into a groove.

Eeyore's Butterfly: Thanks for the job you do, I'm sure it's not easy, but so important to the kids who need you.

ShortynBug: I'm sorry you are having a hard time right now. I think many of us go through that. I don't think there are any easy answers, you just have to keep trying until something clicks. One time something will work, and the next time it won't. You have to keep trying because if you don't where will you end up? Do you want to live the rest of your life unhappy with your weight? If you don't do it now, then when? Hang in there.

sahbushka: Great advice on doing other things to make yourself feel good.

Have a great day everyone.
Cindy

Me me! Of course I am a crazy cat lady...

Wrapping Presents 101 for Cat Owners

I'm a crazy cat and dog lately too. And that was HILARIOUS!

so here's Wed QOTD:
Its a fact of life, that you will have to deal with stress. What non-food thing do you do to de-stress?

Hmm that is a good question. There are a couple of online mindless games that I play that is a good de-stresser for me.

Other than that, reading a book or watching a movie or tv usually helps too.

Eeyore's Butterfly...I was hoping to see you here!!

The show was great last night, a really good first show (I thought). I need to watch some of it when I want chips!!!

For me to destress....I walk the dogs, read a book, or if I'm a bad place mentally I read trip reports on the Dis. I love the ideas I'm getting on other things.

I have found that working out helps me when I am stressed.

I also like the new Wii Sports Resort Sword Play battle. That could destress anyone! It really makes you laugh too!

Hope to get in all my workouts. DD2 woke up with a cold so I'm having to keep her home from preschool. They are being very firm about kids staying home. She feels warm but the thermometer didn't register a fever. Unfortunately she is missing her first dance class today as well. She loves dancing!

My parents arrive tomorrow so my workout room will be partially taken over for 3 weeks. My mom walks 4-6 miles a day so I will walk with her if I don't have to go to work.

Time to get another workout in. DD1 has an 11:30 release and then has a dr appt to check for asthma so my afternoon will be taken up by that.

so here's Wed QOTD:
Its a fact of life, that you will have to deal with stress. What non-food thing do you do to de-stress?

Exercise works for me. Long walk or a bike ride.

DIS, Knit, Scrapbook, Clean, Cross Stitch, Work on the car

It has to keep me busy and using my hands. Sometimes I'll read but you can snack and read at the same time so I try not to do that to often.

so here's Wed QOTD:
Its a fact of life, that you will have to deal with stress. What non-food thing do you do to de-stress?

Read, do a puzzle, walk the dog, go for a jog, the Disboards, facebook, anything that removes me from the needy beings that surround me (if only for a few minutes!)

Its a fact of life, that you will have to deal with stress. What non-food thing do you do to de-stress?

*big breath* This is really a problem I need to work on. I tend to let it build up and stew.
Taking a long bath or soaking my feet in the foot massage really help. I tend to put in my iPOD. When I am really stressed I can't focus enough to read and this is my escape so I have actually started to download audio books. I also have a few pod casts that work too.

Well-I don't deal very well. Its been very hard on my DS, who is amazing. She has know me a very long time:rolleyes1 but sometimes I test even her patience. I would say I deal with drinking but I don't think that's what you meant and it doesn't help for very long. Certainly my past de-stresser has been eating!!
I can say that exercise works wonders with stress but when you are stressed it can be hard to make yourself exercise! I also like to lose myself in fantasy movies (ie. couch potato)
Great question, I'll be looking forward to reading helpful ideas from others on this one.

LuvBaloo:

The Three Lives of Thomasina is alive action movie staring Patrick Mcgoohan and those lovely children from Mary Poppins. It has a wonderful scene where Thomasina (who is a cat) crosses over and meets Bastet, the egyptian cat Goddess only to be sent back to help a grieving family in the Scottish Highlands.

Miracle of the White Horses stars Lilli Palmer and Curt Jurgens and is about the Royal Lipizzaner Stallions being rescued by Gen. Patton during WW2.

I read a lot, but that's not always non-food because it doesn't really keep my hands busy and I snack while I'm doing it. Sewing and scrapbooking are better for that, but I still haven't gotten my craft stuff unpacked or my space set up since the move in July.

I DIS, of course, and plan trips. :surfweb: DH swears you can tell the stress level of the previous year in our household by the number, length and scope of our vacations. :rotfl: He's right, too - our longest, most expensive, most elaborately planned Disney trip came after the worst year of our married life, and next year is going to be peppered with trips (including a big, ridiculously overplanned Disney trip) after a year full of changes that were mostly positive but nonetheless stressful.

Taking care of my youngest is a huge stress reliever for me, even though she's at that mobile-but-doesn't-know-better toddler stage. She's my miracle baby, born after numerous unexplained miscarriages, a year spent trying to come to terms with never having a 3rd child, and DH finally having a vasectomy. She was conceived in that short time between the "big V" and zero count, thanks to DH skipping his follow up appointment and guessing at when it had been long enough, and she was just meant to be I guess because the pregnancy was completely uneventful. So any time I hold her or hug her or even chase her out of the pantry for the 10th time in a day or change a stinky diaper, I'm reminded just how blessed I am.

And then there is my other online time-sucker - World of Warcraft. When you're really stressed, there's nothing like logging on to massacre evil beings for a while. :lmao:

I call up my BFF and we will go out and have dinner or go walking, but we mainly talk about what's bringing us down.

Anything Disney is great de-stresser for me. The DIS boards, looking at pictures from past trips ect...

Exercise is also a great stress relief for me. I have to get in the habit of making it an everyday thing for me!:yay:

I hope everyone has a magical day! pixiedust:

Wed. QOTD: What non-food thing do you do to destress?

Go for a nice long bike ride if it's nice out, play Tile Towers on Webkinz, spend some time on the disboards, watch a Lifetime movie.

Another long night at work. Evidentally there was lots of snuggling going on around Christmas and New Years, and now we're having a baby boom! I'm off tonight and Thurs. night, and ready for the much needed break. Now I just have to force myself to get my exercise in while I have the time because I work all weekend.

I didn't watch BL last night because I had to nap and didn't think to DVR it til it was already 1/4 over. I've never watched it actually, but thought I'd check it out this season after doing these challenges. I'll have to remember to set the timer to record the rest of them.

DH doesn't have to work til 2 today, so we're going out for breakfast now. I hope I can behave myself!

I'm hooked on exercise again! And I'm down 2.2 pounds so far for the week.
Hope everyone else is doing well!

Great job! Sounds like you are off to a good start! :thumbsup2

I hope that things went well at doctor's office for your daughter. DS was diagnosed "pre-asthmatic" when he was younger but all those problems went away after his tonsils were removed.

I have exercised every day since last tuesday, and tonight I'm going to to the wii free step for the first half hour of the show, and then have my ww fudge bar. That's my plan, and I'm sticking to it. It helps me to follow through when I say or type it.

Woo! Hoo! Way to go on the exercise! :cheer2: Thanks for inspiring me because I need some motivation in this area. :goodvibes

OK who cried on Biggest Loser?!??!
I think I cried out about 5 pounds!

I feel the same way Jillian does about going through something like that, wow. Jillian inspires so many people it's great to see someone inspire her.

And I'm so glad the show was on tonight. I had a bowl of chocolate pudding sitting in my lap and I felt guilty so I put it back. YAY ME!!!

Will anyone start a thread about the show or do we talk about it here?

I think in the past we've had a few BL messages show up in the thread. I like the idea of a separate discussion thread, though - that way it isn't a problem of spoilers for those of us who haven't yet watched (yours truly) or of more thread activity for those who don't watch the show at all. What do our fearless leaders think??

I think that you are right, corinnak, in the past we have some general discussions about the BL show but leave detailed discussions to another thread. We could always start a BL discussion thread on the WISH boards -- the community board is like the autobahn to me! :rotfl:

I like to keep the emphasis on this thread for our challenge and support for each other on our journeys to good health but I am open for anything that the participants would like to do. :goodvibes

Me me! Of course I am a crazy cat lady...Dona- I have just decided to DO the COW every day or die- as figuring out the point system is well-- difficult for me so I just--am. So go easy on us!...lol. I know it will help.

Good job on doing the COW, Susan. What I do when I report my COW results is take this part from the COW post (you can always find a link to the current COW in post #4 of our thread):

On Friday 9/18/09 send me

XX days drinking water
XX days doing something for yourself

Thanks and enjoy the COW

Substitute the XX's for the points, add them and give her a total underneath -- carefully checking my math because dona is a math teacher ;) -- and email that to dona.

Its a fact of life, that you will have to deal with stress. What non-food thing do you do to de-stress?

Oh, stress, the single most thing that will derail all my carefully laid plans and good intentions in the wink of an eye. When stressful things come along, I think of the wise words of pjlla who said "you can't control what happens to you, you can only control your reaction." So I try to remember that.

I've found that simply working on my breathing technique helps a lot. If I get stressed, I immediately pause and take several deep breaths, counting to five as I breathe in, hold for five and exhale for five. I try to be sure that I really fill my diaphram and exhale fully. When I first started doing it, my stomach muscles hurt a bit almost like sit ups. That let me know that I had been breathing shallowly which just adds to your body's reaction to stress.

The "me time" for the COW helps with stress, too. As does sitting and playing the piano -- which I just started learning to play at age 49.

Welcome, Ronda93! I will add all our new folks to the participant's list when I get a chance later today. :goodvibes

Have a great day all!

I like the idea of a seperate discussion!! I so wanted to post something about the show but didn't want to spoil it for those who haven't watched it yet.

Me me me! I so cried, and so much so (and more than once) that I had a stuffy nose all day!

Those looking for a thread to discuss the show itself can find it here

This thread was started on the Community Boards last week.

Can we have our own thread so we can tailor it to the BL8 challenge? I'd hate to jump in and bore the others with our BL8 talk.

Its a fact of life, that you will have to deal with stress. What non-food thing do you do to de-stress?

Cuddle with my cats, do something with the kids, read, watch tv and go for a walk.

lunchtime and I told ohMom I was signing up TODAY for BL so here I am!

yes- I need to recommit to eating healthy (once again) and get back into an exercise routine. Stress fracture of my foot this summer stopped the treadmilling for me and now it is hard to get back to a faithful routine and for the eating - it's mindless - I just pop in whatever is at hand - so "short" of cutting off my hand - I am here to say - I wanna play (yes- again) and get some of the regained pounds back off..............

my current good news is DH and I are joining the ranks of "retirees" - last day of work, Nov 30th - soooooooooooooooo - I really do want to be in a good healthy eating and exercise routine as we begin that new phase of our life journey!

off to find where to report my WI number :yay:

YEAH! Glad your back! I've been thinking about you.

Tues QOTD: What's your favourite Disney movie? cartoon, live-action, whatever you like:confused3

Tough one - Peter Pan and Pinnochio are probably my two favorites.

Growing up thought I loved The Witch Mtn movies, Watcher in the Woods, Mary Poppins, Jungle book, the Parent Trap, Cinderella and the list could go ON and ON!!

What motivates you on your weight loss journey?

I want to get back to what I was when I originally lost my weight.
I want to not have tight clothes anymore.
I want to feel good about myself again.
I want to be healthy.

what i have done today is get a good cardio workout in. I'm not doing very well on the journal every bite commitment. We have a wonderful and fun Spanish student here for the next two weeks. It's great that she wants to try a variet of American meals, foods, etc. but i need to get a grip! Today i'm going to bake an apple pie and probably choc chip cookies. but beyond that she's never had cupcakes and said cake/brownies are not as commonly made like here. we've got a list of restaraunts to take her too! HELP!

on another note -- i've got just under 4 wks to shed this tire around my belly....just for opinions ....what do you all think of a strategy of more deliberately structured eating (1200-1400 cals/day which is my metabolic test results) and not stressing intense workouts. on workout days i just find myself so hungry later in the day!

Oh my I feel for you with the spanish student. How difficult to have all those temptations. I'd definately stick to something like 1200-1500 and make sure to vary them. Don't do 1200 each day or even just 1400 each day. Mix it up and it will confuse your body. I'd try to lower your intensity of workouts and maybe get light walk in or something that isn't so intense. Your body may respond very well by mixing up your workouts and hopefully you won't be as hungry. Make sure to take rest days and use your exercise days to have the higher calorie days and your rest days to have the lower ones.

I like #2 - but of course a smaller version of it.

Ok I'm here to confess!

I've been having trouble staying on track. Not one day since we started have I had a good day. I think its because I've had so many days in the past month and a half of eating out and being on vacation. I was able to get back on track after Disney, but it's proving harder after the Vegas trip.

So today I'm recommiting. I got up and had oat bran with a banana and raw almond butter. I need to get a handle on this.

Did anyone see the report on how saturated fat triggers your brain not to know its full and this is how they believe binge eaters get in trouble. Interesting.

2. I will sometimes drive with no radio, no iPod, and no noise at all. This is calming to me.

I agree - often times when I feel very tense and am in the car - I turn everything off and retreat into my head - sometimes the quietest place around.

I guess other things I do to deal with stress are read, veg-out in front of the tv or get a nice neck/shoulder massage from my DH - ahh - now that works!:cloud9:
