Biggest Loser 8 Fall Challenge -- for losers and maintainers!

Yeah I was thinking how dumb it was to get all that stuff when I was riding my bike but it turned out allright and I just biked home kind of slow. I have a big basket on the front and the grocery outlet cloth bags are great- can fit alot of stuff in there. I really bike defensively- just like I drive. And...I did put 2 bottles of wine back lol.

Good quotd. Gets people thinking. I'm like the other posters in my only real planning is what to do with the stuff I take out of the freezer. I also try to do meals around fresh veggies I get too. That's one reason I love going to the farms- it gives me a lot of leeway as stuff really is so much fresher. We eat a lot of leftovers too. Nothing irks me more at work than those skinny women who get a quarter pound of burger for their dinners (whatever they do with it I dunno) I never want to be one of those women. Eat smaller portions sure, but make good use of your time and energy and have enough for a few nights of leftovers. I guess there are some people out there who are terrified of leftovers-- I've seen those wifeswap episodes anyway.(Lol)
You know I really have no desire to be thin--just not overweight. And sorry, but I'm always going to eat. Guess I better be thankful for my very active job and be sure its Good food I'm eatin'.

QOTD ~
I usually just plan my meals as I go, which is actually one of my problems. I don't know ahead of time what I'm going to have and end up snacking on whatever's handy vs. having healthier options. This is something I'm going to work on as well!

QOTD - Do you plan your menu daily, weekly or just make it up as you go?

Not really, because we do Nutrisystem. We do cook regular meals on the weekend though. Last night we had turkey burgers and grilled squash & zuccini, mmmmmmmmmmm.

I did run into a little hiccup last night, I have been logging my calorie intake & excersie amounts into my iTouch "Lose It" and my 11 1/2 month old thought it would be a good idea to see if it would float in the dogs water bowl . Lets just say it would NOT serve as a good floation devise in the event of an emergency . But, hey i guess i will do it the old fashioned way and actually write it down. Here is to a speedy recovery to the iTouch pixiedust:

When I go shopping I try to think of all the good things I should be eating. I make sure there is plenty of Fresca, soda with lime (like Perrier) and the fruits we like to eat. I dont really plan meals specifically. I like there to be healthy choices around for when I lose focus.
We fall back on a healthy cereal like "Guardian" to munch on for a snack (or dinner if we arrive home after 8pm)

... it will be sent to do Alaska cruises out of Vancouver in the summer of 2011!!!

OMGOSH! that is awesome news!! My DH has told me that next year's vacation will not be at Disney  but it's ok he has GREAT ideas. but now where talking 2011.....hmmm....

A little bit of everything. Dinners we tend to plan out a week at a time. Breakfast & Lunch are as you go...though sometimes I do plan out the entire day if I know that one meal is going to be "bigger."

that is exactly my answer too!

I'm proud to say this week I got 5 of 5 workouts done! that is a first in a very long time. Too long b/c i really struggled today, just kept saying to myself gotta get through this mentally tough phase to get to the motivational "this feels great" phase

We've done both here though I'm trying to plan out for the week. We are trying to stop spending so much money on food so I went through our fridge and cupboards to write down what we have in them. With dancing and sports we are going to have a crazy few nights so we'll see how that works. I've planned out for the weekend. My parents arrive later in the week which will make things even crazier! My kids are picky eaters which also makes planning more difficult.

DH and I have been eatig LC and WW meals a lot in the last several months. I try to buy them when they are under $2.50. We are going to try and have sandwich meat available as well.

How do I explain this? The simplest way is to say I have a guardian angel, and that is how she communicates with me. Whenever something is going to happen, or if there is something I am worried about, my bday numbers start showing up everywhere - license plates, prices, order totals, game scores, you name it. Sometimes it's to prepare me for something bad, sometimes it's to comfort me, I never know what it means, but I'm always prepared something is about to happen. Right before DH was laid off, it showed up everywhere, and I knew to expect something. The day DH and the boys went into the lake on the snowmobile, it showed up endlessly - again, I knew to expect something. When we were adopting the boys and had 10 months of delays, it kept showing up when I was at my darkest...she was telling me it was going to be ok (among other really weird things that kept happening, all when I told her I needed a sign). Most recently, just a few days ago I watched a neighbor's dog get hit by a car. The person who hit the dog kept woulda, shoulda, coulda, as did I - if I hadn't chosen that walking route that morning, then I wouldn't have had a dog tag along, then the other dog wouldn't have ran out in the road to see the dog that was tagging along with me. I was devastated. The first car to pass me after I got walking again had my birthday numbers on the license plate. It wasn't my fault, she was telling me. If I'm anxious about something, I literally ask her to tell me it's going to be ok - I know to be worried if I don't see those numbers popping up after that.

I know this sounds like a bunch of hooey, but I swear it's all true. I've had several people tell me I need to write a book about it, particularly the stuff that happened during the adoption process (I was literally asking for signs from above, and told her I needed something that would hit me hard so I knew it was from her, and she sent them to me in amazing ways). Someday, maybe I will.

Very cool - glad you shared.

I'm just going to post one QOTD for Sat/Sun:

Do you plan your menu daily, weekly or just make it up as you go?

We try. I feel we are in a rut right now though, I need to get back into a routine. I've been away too much for a while now and need to find a groove and get back into a routine.

After you maintain your goal weight for 6 weeks (+/- 2 pounds), you may attend WW meetings free, and you weigh-in only once month. Needless to say, life got busy, and I stopped going to the meetings. Now, I am 8 pounds over my goal weight so I would have to pay the regular meeting fee.

I need to do something that is why I joined this group. My clothes are getting tight. :scared1:

Thanks for sharing the lifetime WW info. It meshes with what we have for the maintainers portion of our challenge. Maybe you will be the first member of our maintainer team in a few weeks! :thumbsup2

Way to go on the workouts, Molli! I am right behind you. I know I've got to get this healthy habit down. You inspire us all! :worship:

Lunch usually leftovers, or sandwiches. My son just started school so he's having a treat of 2 weeks of buying lunch, because after making lunch every day all summer, I wanted a break and he loves to buy. :rotfl:

I love it when DS wants school lunch. They have fruit and veggie bar and have really made an effort to have healthier food so I am happy to have him eat at school. There is a lot of trading when I make a lunch so I don't really know what he ends up with! :sad2:

This talk about your name, Pamela, made me go back and make sure that I had spelled it correctly in my last post and on the participants list. Whew! :rotfl2: For some reason in my mind I say it "pah-gee-ah." It's obviously a very versatile name since it has so many possible variations! ;) If I ever do spell it incorrectly, please correct me! :thumbsup2

Guess I had better get back to house work and stop messing around on the Dis! :hippie:

I'm just going to post one QOTD for Sat/Sun:

Good weeks, I plan weekly before doing the shopping, and those are the weeks I actually cook and eat reasonably healthy. Crazy weeks, I make it up as I go and end up with too many heat-and-eat and take-out meals. So there's another little goal - more good weeks, less bad! :rolleyes1

Good morning all!

QOTD (Question of the Day) If you were at WDW or DL right now, where would you be and what would you be doing?

If I were at DL right now, I would be eating breakfast and getting ready to be at the gate in an hour for Magic Morning (like early entry). If I was at WDW now, I would be riding Pirates of the Caribbean. pirate:

Have a great, OP day all and don't forget to PM those starting weights to LuvBaloo tomorrow!

I would be searching for a place to see the parade in the Magic Kingdom since it is nearly 2.

Happy Saturday!!!!

Do you plan your menu daily, weekly or just make it up as you go?

I usually plan my menu weekly!! Do I always follow it no, but at least I have an idea of what meals I want to cook that are healthy options!! Last year I never planned anything and we ended up eating out way more than we should have and that contributed often to my weight gain!! I have seen improvements in both me and my husband by choosing to cook at home and plan those meals ahead of time!

I would say I plan out dinners mon - thurs at home and cook healthy. I love the recipes in the biggest loser cookbooks they are healthy and seriously delicious

my biggest problem is THE WEEKEND! that is one of my mini goals to be more conscious during the weekend to allow myself to indulge but not go into a weekend binge

QOTD: About once every 2 weeks my dh and I sit down together with the cookbooks and decide on 4 recipes to buy ingredients for besides our regular stuff. Usually it is two old favorites and 2 new selections from our new ww cookbook or something I have printed off over the years from WW online. It has been really fun and anything that turns out great gets added to our family cookbook which has all of our family favorites and the recipes we like to have in our rotation of meals. 2 nights ago my dh made a fabulous chicken salad that was only 7 points for a really large portion!

Later,
Sarah

Could you share the recipe?

Could you share the recipe?

I will try to get on tonight from home and post it. My dh made it so I don't know off the top of my head what all is in it but I think the main ingredients were chicken (poached and shredded), pine nuts, raisins, light mayo, pepper and I don't know what else, all on a bed of lettace.

Hello everyone: I hope you are all having a terrific Saturday.

Great QOTD:

I pretty rarely plan our meals...gee, ya think that might have something to do with why I tend to eat so much garbage?? Hmmmmm. :confused3
We both work really long hours, and occasionally I get my act together enough that I'll cook something at work or do the crockpot thing, but so often I just let the day run away with me and then we're starving and I don't want to take time to cook...or maybe I just don't want to cook period. I'm thinking planning will be key to actually succeeding at making better choices....

To those that asked about the Segway tour: it really was a lot of fun. I had signed us up for it originally as a present for him, but I didn't really want to do it. I'm pretty big, and I really thought I would be terrible at it, and that I would fall off and that they would all laugh at me or something (I think my inner 7th grader was running the show whenever I thought about it). I was totally dreading it and very nervous....but seriously, it ended up being one of the highlights of that trip! They spend a lot of time getting you acclimated, and while I was the slowest in the class to get comfortable, in about 15 minutes I was having fun and really getting the hang of it. It was very freeing, too. It's very interesting how it moves; after a bit it almost feels like all you have to do is think and it moves (a commentary on body language I think...we don't even realize subtle movements we make with our bodies...). At any rate, it was totally worth it, and was really fun to ride and it was very cool to be in the world showcase before anyone else.

Have a terrific weekend everyone!
I'm drinking my water and thinking I'm going to float away soon...

Brooke

I'm going with a 2-part question today. Since many of us don't know each other, I'll start with something simple: What's the meaning of your DisName? and for part 2: We have all set our own goals for this 14-week challenge, have you got a mini-goal to help measure success along the way?

About my name - I'm a huge fan of roller coasters. My favorite part of them is the weightlessnese or "airtime" so my screen name is supposed to read airtime 24/7. I created the ID for a program a long time ago and it was restricted to ten characters with no symbols so airtime247 worked and stuck with me.

My mini goal is actually to do the two things that seem to help me most with weight loss - get more sleep and let go of as much stress as I can.

Do you plan your menu daily, weekly or just make it up as you go?

My DW does all the cooking and planning. She shops for a few ideas for the week and usually cooks based on what we have time for that evening and what our moods are. My lunches at work are the pretty much the same every day. They just vary depending on what fruit is in season.

wildfan1473 - Great screen name! I'm a huge San Jose Sharks fan and was born in '73. Best of luck to you with your goals (pun intended)!

Good evening everyone. Nice to see it busy.

QOTD I do try to plan out the meals for theweek but I don't always stay on track with my plan. Breakfast and lunch are pretty easy since they really have to be the same but I occasionally do like to try out new things.

For all those who have said "Life is too short", this has been my motto for the last 6 months. I got a call from my friend that I have know since high school that her husband had a stroke and was in the hospital. He is still be rehabed at home but it is slow and I don't know how far he will come. I guess this is the reason why when dh asked me to go to DW I jumped at the chance. He asked me in the middle of July to go at the end of Aug. I had airfare and a room within 30 minutes. I was still hurting from foot surgery but we had a great time.

This is one of those weeks that will never stop. I had blood work done this morning so I had to be at the lab at 7 and it only took about 35 minutes. Dh and I went to see the new movie 9. I can't say I hated it and I can't say I loved it. I really did not like the ending. We then went down and mowed dh's sis's lawn (we do this every two weeks along with our lawn and my fil's lawn. LUckily ds's have helped out this summer. I did not have to do it on crutches like I feared last JUne:rotfl::rotfl:) It has been pretty wet here in jersey and some of her lawn was under water. It seemed to take forever. Then we stopped at fil's to get some measurements. We need to finish a job on his front porch that we started last weekend. Tomorrow I get to get on a ladder and help hang gutter:confused3:rotfl2: It should be fun.

I have meetings or appointments after school 4 out of 5 days this week. I really can't wait for next weekend though. My dneice is working on her Gold Award for girl scouts. She is doing a blanket day for Project LInus, an organization that gives blankets to sick kids. I can't wait to see how she does. Between my mother who has at least 60 blankets to give her and myself (I still have to count how many I have downstairs in bins) She will have a good day.

Have a great day everyone. DOn't forget the COW. It is really easy this week.

HI all!
I am very excited to be part of this team. I did loose 45 pounds during Allies win on season 5. I did reach my goal, but over the past year, some of the weight has crept back. I am looking to loose 17 pounds. I believe with the support of the message board I will be successful! I just need to learn how to maintain better.
