Biggest Loser 11 Spring Team Challenge--for Losers and Maintainers

hi friends! DH is on a phone interview (yes, at 6:30am on vacation!) so i managed to steal his computer long enough to check in and say hi :)

the scale is hating me this vacation. ok, it's not the scale. it's my appetite. oh well. i'm pretty much up 3-4 pounds already. wow. it's just so easy to eat eat eat while on vacation!

we had dinner at tommy bahamas last night that was outrageously expensive but SO delicious. i had macadamia nut crusted snapper. omg. amazing! we got thomas a bowl of buttered macaroni and it was NINE bucks! holy geez i should have just brought something from home. i mean, what did that cost them? 50 cents? oh well.

we're going to a luau tonight which should be fun! i think my cousin is enjoying herself too! she and DH are going to go on a snorkeling trip next week. i'm not good on boats and i don't want to take the little guy on a 3 hour boat ride so i'll stay behind and hit up the beach or pool with him.

hope everyone is doing well! dh just came out of the bedroom where he was on the call and needs the computer back!! xoxo

As I sit here after polishing off the rest of michael's white chocolate bunny I figured I should post and say hello, and hope that will at least get me moving in the right direction again. :rolleyes1

Been a busy week with baseball monday and tonight, and last night I studied for my recert class today for advanced cardiac life support.

My 5k is in 5 weeks, and I mentioned it to some girls at work, and a few of them are going to do it too, some walking, and some run/walking. I definitely want to get my speed up to finish in under 40 min, so I need to get out more than 2 days a week. Since I caught up tongiht, I don't need to come on in the morning and I can go for a quick run instead. :thumbsup2 I need to do it.

Never give up!! Trying and getting back in the wagon is so much better than giving up. :goodvibes Have a great night everyone!!
Best of luck on the recert! My 5K is Saturday and I would love to do it in 45 minutes....I'm hoping :) Sending you running :goodvibes

Thank you all for the great replys and yes I definitely want to join the summer group. I made a promise to my dad who passed away 25 years ago with cancer at the same age I am. I promised him if he helped me get through this I would get my body and mind in physical condition...
Hang in there brave woman!!

Another good day here. Hunter (and DH's) team won their game tonight. I used my 30% off coupon at Kohls and found some great early bird specials to boot :cool1: Received a call from the VA as I was leaving Kohl's and my background check has already been completed and I have an official start date for my new job :cool1::cool1:May 23rd. That gives me a week to get some projects done around the house and to hit as many of my kids games as possible. I'm hoping to get our main bathroom redone between now and then. I found the shower curtain and accessories on clearance at Kohl's today before I knew I had the job for sure.

Today's QOTD: Something that you might not know about me. Wow, I'm pretty much an open book. You all know that I'm determined and failure is not an option at anything. I'm crafty and very mechanically inclined. There is probably nothing around the house that I can't do or haven't done. My family is always my number one priority. I strongly believe that sleep is for rookies and I can do that when I die...so I'm always busy. I love to travel and will work lots of jobs to provide the money to support our travels. I guess that you might not know that deep down I'm pretty insecure and have to push myself outside of the box.
Deb I am such a Kohl's junkie! I just bought a Keurig yesterday with my 30% off :) Thanks for pushing yourself outside the box and letting us in!

Hi! Well, just got off the phone with the Pool Pres and he agrees with my concerns and wants to address them and make the corrections needed. I guess this means that I am still on the board-- especially since I am going to be helping. He is really a wonderful guy that is trying very hard with a mostly female board with all that a group of women tend to bring with them  and an ingrained mindset of "We have never done it that way/This is the way we have always done it". :sad2:

DD15 will not be able to swim anymore. The MRI showed that there is no major damage but if she continues to "stress" it she will have constant pain and inflammation. She is not dedicated enough to swimming to warrant surgery and several months of PT didn't do anything to help. She can function fine in daily life so we will leave well enough alone. She is even on modified PE and can't do anything that would put strain on the shoulder like frisbee or arm hang.

So DD11 will swim this year and DD15 is going to be sort of a "Jr. Manager" and assist the coach and help with paperwork and kid wrangling. She loves the little ones and they get the teens to help out with the little ones for practices and meets. I think she will actually enjoy that more than swimming.

I had a good day today. Went out to lunch with a friend I only see a few times a year and had a great light salad and carrot soup (need to find a recipe for this!). Dinner was high in protein and veggies and low on carbs so completely on program. I think I am at a point where I need to be in the house less so I have less time to snack on crap.

Went to a bunch of places today looking for a makeup kit for DD15's best friend's birthday on Saturday and finally found one at the mall.

I'm tired tonight. Can't decide if I should have a cup of coffee or just go to bed. I have a bunch of paper organizing I need to do so maybe I should go for the coffee. Didn't get anything done today.
You accomplished soooo much! I would opt for sleep. I always feel better after a fuller than full nights sleep!

Good Thursday morning Teams

I can't get started this morning. I woke up at 3 coughing and got up so I wouldn't wake up dh. I did fall asleep for a little while but I still feel a little groggy. Once I get movingg I will be fine.

Question of the Day

Will you be joining us for the Summer Challenge?

I will be joining this summer. I have not been able to get into losing weight this challenge and I am hoping that I get some more motivation this summer.

Have to go and get ready for work.

Have a happy and healthy day.
I'm in for the summer! After falling off the wagon multiple times, I am back in the drivers seat. While cupcakes frequently call my name, I feel healthier than I have in years!! The time is NOW to make it all come together!

My day yesterday ended up better than expected. I did have some treats (hello Dairy Queen!) but I ran my 5K route again and timed myself and I have an "unofficial" time of 47.21. A benchmark to improve on. Scale is down .5 today.

Only have 3 houses to look at today. Basically I guess what this trip has done is narrowed down that I want one certain school zone, I want a house in one of two n'hoods and the certain features that I can expect to get in my price and what is a good deal. That really narrows down my choices. I suppose I will have to come back in July when DH is visiting. Then, he does not want me to return to Germany again. He is going back until his last day at work in late July. He says the company will only pay to fly us over and back so many times and I know that's true. Feeling pressure!!!!
We really do not want to rent and have to move twice. That just locks us into a one year rental contract and then we have another window to move again next Summer. And, what if we don't find anything again then? We really need to find something soon!

Have a great day all!

Shawnprincess:
Great job on the scale Shawn!!! Keeping fingers crossed that you are able to find something before you have to head back!

Congrats to all the Losers and Maintainers!!!!:cool1:

One more week everyone (well 1 week and 1 day)! Let's make this one count.:goodvibes

My inner child is coming out today. I don't wanna go to work. It's going to be in 90 again today and back in the 60s for the weekend. Yuck!

I did strength last night and it went ok except for the lunges on my left knee. So I took it very easy and for part of the time did some extra squats. I also did 10 min on the elliptical. Not much, but that gave me 60 min of exercise yesterday + a 15 min walk with Mike. Tonight we are pool running. And I'm going to get him to show me how to do the pullup assist at the Y.

I think that's it. My weight has finally started moving down again. I have been sitting at the very high end of my maintain for a week or so and not liking it at all. I am hoping to end up the challenge at the bottom of my maintain so that I won't come back from our trip too far out of my zone.

Have a great day!
AWESOME job Rose! Glad to hear you are seeing the scale move!

**********Happy Thursday friends!!

It has been hard to get back to "normal" this time! I guess I don't catch up on my sleep as quickly, now that I am older. Plus I've had to jump, feet first, into a couple of new projects (one for swim team and one for robotics).

Laundry is caught up, suitcases are just waiting for a trip to the attic, groceries are bought. Thank HEAVENS they didn't need me at work yesterday or today.... but I am working tomorrow. And DD has a swim meet Fri/Sat. and the middle school penny sale is tomorrow night and Rainbow Girls have a bake sale tomorrow night, so I need to bake today (I hate baking). DS will have to attend the penny sale with DH, as I will be working the timing system at the swim meet. Tonight is the high school Expo night. I'd like to go and hear about the trip to Costa Rico that DD wants to go on next year and I'd like to see the Senior projects, to get some ideas for DD (she knows what she will be doing.... just looking for some presentation ideas). But that will mean skipping my gym workout tonight. Not feeling real motivated to hit the TM at home today, but I guess I'll do it if I have to.

I will write up a mini trip report for you all today.... for those of you who want to live vicariously! It may or may not include photos, depending on my time.

Off to :laundy:! TTYL....................P
Seems like you are back to the busy life! Can't wait to read the trip report :)

Just a quick hello, my friends! I have been missing all of you, but the stress levels in my life are even greater if I take time away from the task list to "play" with my internet friends.
I have been having horrible stomach cramps since Monday and have had no interest in eating food beyond what is necessary to get me going in the morning and then a salad and some protein mid to late afternoon. I had a fever for a couple of those days, too. It's funny how I've always been a stress eater and this week I've been a stress non-eater. This new approach, as you can imagine, is much more effective for weight loss. ;) Oh, and Kathy, it's really easy to journal when I haven't been grazing at night and trying to remember what I ate so that I can account for it. :guilty:

I have read everything up to here so that I can keep you all in my thoughts and prayers. I'm sorry I can't take the time to respond to everyone but I want you to know how much the support here means to me. Hugs, my friends! :grouphug:
Cam, you are so loved and supported here!!! Sending you :goodvibes as you get through the next month full of happy (sometimes stressful) events!

*******
Where did this week go??? Training went really well last night. Turns out my knee issue was just muscle tightness...YEY! After my trainer I went for a walk with my mom...she was itching to use the Runkeeper app on her iphone. We decided to walk up and down a local street and before you know it we had walked 3.3 miles!! She was so proud of herself and I was so proud of her too! She may even consider doing a 5K in the future!

Quiet day at school...AGAIN! I'm still looking for a summer job and hate to not have anything lined up...as well as having to ask my parents for a loan :scared1:

Happy Thursday to all!

I was off the grid yesterday chaparoning the 9th grade trip to Sandy Hook (New Jersey beaches!!). They learned about the marine life, used hip waders to capture creatures in nets (and then release them), and we did some shell collecting to end the day. It was a little chilly in the shade but overall a beautiful day!

that sounds like a very fun trip.

I just thought I would share a couple pictures

You look absolutely wonderful. Great Job

I'm back! It was an amazing trip! We had SO MUCH FUN!! Buffy and her DS were so great to hang around with and the kids got along great!! That made the trip extra special!!

Glad you had a great time. I cant wait to read your report.

Never give up!! Trying and getting back in the wagon is so much better than giving up. :goodvibes Have a great night everyone!!

I agree!!!!!!

hi friends! DH is on a phone interview (yes, at 6:30am on vacation!) so i managed to steal his computer long enough to check in and say hi :)

Gald your having a great time. Sounds dreamy:cloud9:

*********************************************************

Life is busy and overwhelming or maybe its just feel more overwhelming than usual since I said hello to TOM this afternoon. I was so glad to start it since I have been feeling so irritable and bloated, now I know just a few more days and I will be back to my normal self.:lmao: Im sure dh will be happy too. I think I snapped at him alot last night. Honestly he should know better by now just to do what I ask him to do and not argue with me. Right.:rotfl2:

Our scheduled P90X dvd for last night wasnt working. It kept skipping. After fiddling around with it for a half hour we called it quits. We probably should have just used a different workout but we were both very tired. I am a bit disappointed in myself but we will just pick up where we left off tonight.

I need to leave work a little early for tball tonight. Its my night to work the snack stand. I will miss ryans game. I have no idea why they dont schedule us on an off night so we dont miss our kids game.:confused3

I have done good today with eating excluding the 4 oreo cookies. That was TOM taking over. It also explains the 2lb gain since Monday.

Thank goodness tomorrow is friday! I am really looking forward to the weekend. Lots of fun planned.

Karen, You said that you were at Sandy Hook the other day. there was an article in the paper about it.

Pamela I went to a special program set up for a class I took last summer. It was at the Museum of Natural History in NYC. I can't wait to go back and see the rest of the musuem.

DS14 was just there Tuesday with his paleontology class. He loved it soooo much. We are meeting DIS friends in NYC this summer so we are going to go back.

I just got the news that my mom has bone cancer. She will be having a biopsy on Monday. She doesn't know how bad it is yet. I will be talking to my sister later who will give me the details. I'm a mess right now. Thankfully Brian had just gotten home from work when I got the call. He, unfortunately, went through this with his dad 10 years ago. I will let you all know when I hear more! I just don't know what to say right now!

Afternoon teams! ::MickeyMo :donald:

Going to be a busy evening in this house. Alan is still at the shop but will be leaving within the next 30 - 45 minutes to head home. We've got to run to the bank, walgreens, Dillards, and hit up wal-mart on way back to the house. Somewhere in that mix we'll grab a bite for dinner.

Tomorrow, I'm going to finish straightening up the house. Then the vet will be here at 630pm to give Taylor her laser treatment for her paws. Saturday morning we're going to take Taylor to the vet and the head home and finish up packing.

Sunday we're going to kick back and relax and get to bed at a a decent hour. The car service will be here at 9am to take us to the airport. We'll be departing at 11am and landing in Florida around 2pm. Hoping to be to the resort around 3. We'll then grab a light lunch and then kick back at the pool and relax. We have dinner reservations at Ohana at 8:15pm. I'm excited, this will be our first trip to Ohanas and the Polynesian. :)

If I don't get back on between now and when we leave everyone have a great weekend and I'll post something when we get to Florida. I'm taking the laptop with so we can download pics from the camera each night.

Tracey--I am very, very sorry. Please take good care of yourself. I'll be thinking about you.

I am feeling my age I tell you. So I went walking/running again last night and now when I walk up the stairs, my knee clicks. I've had knee problems in the past so I always used the elliptical without issues when I had a gym membership, so maybe that's the reason why I never got into running. If my DH decides to buy a treadmill I will just have to convince him to get an elliptical instead. I guess I'll switch over to fast walking instead.

I definitely need to stretch, I think you're right about that. Do you think fast walking is okay without taking days off in between?
Last time I lost weight (which was a couple of years ago) I only walked for exercise. I did not have shin problems, but the outsides of my hips really bothered me at the end (before I fell off the wagon;).) This was probably the beginning of itbs for me, in retrospect. Anyhow, the key is to catch all this stuff before it becomes a problem. Walking will probably be easier on your shins--but do you want to walk?

I do not like stretching--I mean really, how many people do, but if you exercise frequently, it becomes pretty important. It helps in injury prevention and if you incorporate any kind of core stuff it helps with aging. Our strength instructor last night was talking about what happens to bones as we age. It was interesting.

You could also think about getting a "stick" which really helps with tight calf muscles. I am much better at using the stick than stretching sometimes.

Last night I talked to someone who was 58 and just ran her first 1/2 marathon and she is scheduled to run another one in the fall. She just started running several months ago and she loves it. Another lady in the conversation who was probably in her late 50s/early 60s has literally just started running. She runs 5 houses and then takes a walk break.:goodvibes I get you on the feeling your age, because sometimes things just ache! But I hope I am still doing this for a long, long time.:goodvibes

I have no idea what knee clicking means, but if it is causing pain (not just soreness) I would definitely look into what's going on. Knees are really important! There's just something about knee pain, too. Hang in there!:goodvibes

*****
I love Thursdays--mostly because I don't work on Fridays!:rotfl: My part-time job is getting a little stressful and I am not liking it too much. We are helping to test the beta version of a new database and it's getting a little difficult to get all my regular work done and do the extra stuff. My boss is really nice about it. It's mostly me putting pressure on myself. I need to think about that a little bit. I like my job, so I need to find a way to not let all this overwhelm me, cause I really don't want to work anywhere else.

I hope everyone has a good evening. I am going to try to catch up a little bit tomorrow.:goodvibes

Tracey, I'm so sorry to hear your Mom's diagnosis. Sending lots of prayers, pixiedust: and good thoughts to all of you. Don't forget to take care of yourself, too. :flower3:

Thanks, FRIENDS!!!!

Right now we're dealing with the shock and anger! We're just going to try and take it one day at a time. I've been on the phone almost all evening! I'm exhausted!

Brian and I had a drink so that relaxed me a bit! Been on the computer a lot too! Just chatted with a good friend who I haven't talked to in months. We've both been so busy but we always get in touch when we can!

Gotta get the girls to bed and call one more person!

Don't forget to send those weigh ins to me! Got one so far! I'm taking my weigh in from this morning as I've eaten horribly today and had a drink tonight but I REALLY needed it!

TTFN :tigger:

Tracey- Hugs. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

I seem to be having a problem with smilies right now. Hmm.

Today was a very OP day. I would have liked to go to the gym, but I worked an extra hour and I'm exhausted. I forgot to do at least 2 things today too.

Thanks for all the support!

I can't believe the challenge is almost over. I'll definitely be back for the summer. I've been trying to think some different ideas for HH. I'd like to mix it up more and have us focus on some more habits outside of eating and exercising. I'll be posting our last week of HH and then I'm off to bed.

Welcome to Healthy Habits!

My name is CC (short for Christina) and I will be your Healthy Habits coach for BL 11. I love the BL challenges and Healthy Habits has helped me significantly in achieving many of my goals.

Some Background Information: Thanks to donac (Dona-hostess of Team Donald) and jenanderson for their amazing help so I know how to coach! I couldn’t do this without seeing them in action previously. I will be continuing the prizes that Jen started.

Here’s How Healthy Habits Works: Each week there will be 3 Healthy Habits (HH) to complete. The first two HHs will always be drinking water and exercising. (Note: The amount and time will increase throughout the challenge!) At the end of each week, you will tally up the number of points you earned for the week and send me a private message with your total. Here’s an example. For Week 1, the 3 HHs are drink Six 8 oz. glasses of water a day, exercise a minimum of 20 minutes per day, and eat at least 3 servings of vegetables a day. If on 4 days you get in all 3 HHs, you would report your points like this:

4/6 days of drinking water
4/6 days of exercising
4/6 days of eating veggies

Your total points (ex: 12/18) AND your team name should be in the subject of your PM.

On/about Tuesday evening, I will post the week’s results. I will share the number of participants and the top scorers. New for BL 11: I will also list the people who earned 7/7 on one or more of the HHs for the week. Everyone who participates will be entered into a drawing for the week's prize. Each prize will have something to do with the 3rd Healthy Habit for the week. I will post the winner and ask that you PM me your contact information. (Please Note: If you do not wish to be entered into the drawing, please let me know in your PM. I understand people’s WISHes for privacy.)

Participation in Healthy Habits is entirely optional, but I encourage you to participate. Good luck on your journey and I hope that HHs helps you as much as it continues to help me!

Welcome to Health Habits Week 20

Week 20 is 5/13-5/19.

This week's 3 Healthy Habits are:
1) Drink Six 8 oz. glasses of water.
2) Exercise a minimum of 20 minutes a day.
3) Do something that you finding relaxing (other than the Dis or exercising).

At the end of the week, please PM me your points. I will post the results on/about Tuesday.

Remember, every participant counts, regardless of the number of points you earn!

If you have any questions, please free to ask!

Healthy Habits Week 18 Results

Congratulations to our participant and prize winner keenercam!

I owe you your last prize still (I apologize) so I'll send you two.

It absolutely amazes me during races when I see folks older than myself. I mean like in their upper 60's and 70's. I hope to be as active at that age too.

During my last race I ran past a band playing "glory days" and It motivated me and almost made me a bit emotional because I thought yep these are my glory days. Just doesnt get better than this. Dont let them pass you by!!!! Well this is what running 13 miles by yourself makes you do....get all sappy with yourself.:lmao:

Ok I have a new found appreciation for anyone who can complete an entire yoga class. Tonights P90X dvd was yoga. 90mins long. lets just say I did a half hour and the rest is still upstairs playing while I am typing this. Oh my I am not one to quit but holy moly I can barely hold my arms up to type this. I am just done. I am hoping and thinking that the more I do it the better I will get and the longer I can go. Wow this was a big wake up call.

Tonight was so nice out. I worked that snack bar at ryans baseball game and enjoyed meeting and talking to some other moms. I did miss watching ry though.

Tomorrow I hope the day goes fast. I will be going to basket bingo with my mom and nana at ryans school tomorrow evening. The boys and Mike are going with my dad to the local minor league baseball game. It should be a fun night.

Take care everyone!!!!

:hug:I'm so sorry to hear that. We were praying for better news.

I'm exhausted. We went to Nick's game and unfortunately they lost. Nick played well, but so many teammates just could catch the ball tonight :confused3 It was 1 1/2 hour drive each way and we were there for about 4 hours between the Varsity and JV games. Took the boys to McDonalds for dinner, but I didn't eat anything, not a big MickeyD's fan.

Tracey - I am so sorry your family is going through this. I will keep your Mom and your whole family in my prayers. Sending you hugs, sweetie.
