Biggest Disney Park Blunder

IMHO, the biggest blunder Disney ever made was choosing France???, Disneyland Paris as the host for Euro Disney. :confused3

Many people who have visited comment on the rudeness of the CM's and the atmosphere is definitely Un Disney.
Why somewhere like Spain or even UK was not chosen surprises me, Universal Studios had the right idea when they opened Universal Mediterrania in Salou on the Med near Barcelona

Chalk another one up for Tapestry of Dreams/Nations, It was awesome! The official word was that first, it was only intended to be a temporary parade but was extended. And second, there were concerns over injuries to the CM wearing the costumes especially when windy. You would think they could have adressed the injury concerns with different costumes while keeping the majority of the parade content the same.

As far as the AK boat ride, I was told by a CM that there was a casual boat ride when it was first opened but was closed because for what ever reason, no one rode it. Probably because the dock was in a place that was hard to see and notr many guests knew it was there.

I also agree with any change(reguardless of how temporary) to any major attraction, icon, or view in any park. It is would be most disappointing to anyone visiting for the first time (and maybe only visit for years) expecting to see classic Disney only to find a pink cake for the castle.

One that hasn't been mentioned yet was discontinuing putting the hometown of the CM on their name tag. I always looked to see where they were from and was a great conversation piece when you found someone close to where you live.

Discontinuing the Magic kingdom club.

While I personally dont mind them, has anyone mentioned the Epcot legacy monoliths?

But, in all seriousness, you just can't please all the guests, all the time(myself included) . I think Disney does a fantastic job overall. They should be entitlted to a misgiving every now and then. People want to see new things and then complain when things change. Has any one "blunder" ruined your entire stay at the world? It wont keep me away!

disney blunders...no specific order...

1.changeing the journey into imagination ride (it will never live up to its former glory)
2.getting rid of mr.toads wild ride
3.getting rid of the cable cars
4.not planning well enough for peter pan ride line (it says 15 minutes and you wait 30? i dont get it...)
5.not doing anything with the 20,000 leagues under the sea space and takeing it away (even though poohs play space is there theres still more than half of an area to work with. what about an ariel ride?)
6.birthday cake on castle...nuff said
7.changeing tiki room...yet again nuff said
8.inflating prices slowly...
9.getting rid of tapestry
10.takeing the igloo away from coca-cola station
11.changeing the Living seas into Nemos seas...
12. takeing luke out of the new disney planning dvd (hey im a teenage girl!)

Getting rid of the Skyway. I loved that ride!
Getting rid of Mr. Toad. How could they?
Changing the Tiki Room. My first Tiki Room expericne was Under New Management and I was NOT happy! A quick trip to DL changed that though. :teeth:

Getting rid of the Main Street Electrical Parade for Light Magic. Light Magic did not have enough "magic" to last...happy they ended it!

I did get one of the light bulbs from the Electrical Parade when they took the floats apart.

Also agree that the prices keep steadily rising making it difficult for a family to enjoy the parks as much as I did as a kid...BIG BLUNDER!! :sad2:

They were thinking about a UK location but decided against it.

I'm glad, because I don't think that Disneyland UK would be any better (ie, I think the service and attitude would be just as bad as people report from DLP).

In my mind, only the Americans can do Disney anyway - the rest of the world just isn't happy/helpful/enthusiastic enoughm as the US to be able to carry it off.

i agree totally...vsl...only the americans can do disney full justice :sunny: ..although i think we in the uk would not be quite as bad as the french..at least we know how to form a line for rides /characters ;)

in paris its just a scrum around the characters ...and they all seem to smoke.
that being said ..i still loved my trip to dlp..because its still disney

The Swan and Dolphin. Ugly as sin, zero Disney themeing and they can be seen from everywhere in the Epcot area. It hurts me everytime I look up and see them dominating the skyline.

I'm sorry that is no dolphin. It's some sort of bass.............?????? :confused3

I like Chester and Hester too. I understand the theming
I do too. :thumbsup2

I don't understand the person chastising Disney for not having an Hispanic theme/princess (of the 50 million, how many are really here. . .legally?. . .but this isn't a place for stupid PC crap)
I was "the person" who posted (& I wasn't "chastising"). The thread topic was "blunder". My take was not PC. My thought was that they're missing out on more business. For Example: The theming of the AKL & to a degree the AK (& all things Lion King) celebrates Africa. Yes it is PC. But it also allows everyone (including African Americans) to enjoy & celebrate all things Africa. And it is good for business.

Also for example: My 6 yo son is Korean & we as a family enjoy & celebrate all things Disney (from the "Mouse" to "Toy Story" to others). But we, as a family enjoy the fact that there is a Mulan character (& Misho & others) for him to celebrate & connect to. (Not for PC reasons, but for selfish reasons) & we spend money supporting this theme.

A couple of folks mentioned the 3 Cabelleros & Emperor's New Groove. (I stand corrected on "latin characters")...BUT Disney doesn't celebrate these characters much. My point is that this is a marketing blunder....If I was a decision maker at Disney (or stockholder), I would want to seriously tap into this market (more than I had) with a full feature film & a Latin princess...so those folks can celebrate/embrace their heritage more (& spend their money).

AND regarding the question of how many Hispanics in our country are Legal or Illegal. I'm not sure what you are trying to say, but I don't consider it relevant to my comment and consider it off topic. :scratchin

I loved Pooh as a child, but that ride doesn't touch Mr Toad's Wild Ride
I agree. :drive:

Finally, I find it interesting that dozens of posters have responded to this "Disney Blunder" tread. Seldom (hardly ever) do "dozens" of different people from all over the country (world?) agree on anything. But it appears that virtually EVERYONE who posted here ...agreed that they would love to see Mr. Toad resurrect & that the current version of the "Stich" ride is disgusting. Maybe someone at Disney will read this.

Making Main Street a Generic gift shop!

I miss the arcade, the magic shop, and all the things that made it unique!

Second place:
Losing the "street" performers in Epcot (i.e. Living Statues) and the Streetmosphere at MGM.

My vote exactly!!

Main Street was the most matigal place on earth. Now they might as well make it a shopping mall.....

Bring back the Penny arcade :cheer2: :cheer2:
