Biggest Disney Park Blunder

I have to say that Drew Carey sound show at MGM is the worst thing I have ever seen/heard! It's not the idea that I dislike so much but the execution, if the headphones were using surroud technology I might be more impressed.

I think my favorite Disney boo-boo was with the projectors at American Adventure. When AA was built they installed a projection box above the audience it took some time before they realised that front projection would not work as the Audio Animatronic 'actors' would be standing in the way. They ended up having to build an extension on the back of the attraction so that they could install rear projection!

Changing Journey and taking away Figment. At least they tried to redeem themselves by putting him back in. *sigh*

Taking away Tapestry - one of the best parades they have ever done.

Dinorama

Stitch

I think the Stitch thing was an improvement, but that's not saying much. Didn't like Alien Encounter before, and still don't really like it now.

I do really hate the appearance of Chester's and Hester's. Mostly because a lot of people don't understand that it's "themed" like a cheesy roadside carnival thing. They just think Disney went cheap and has cracks in its ugly black asphalt.

I think the thing with Dinorama isn't that anyones saying Disney did a bad job themeing it to what its supposed to be, but that the choice of what its themed after was a bad one.

Disney could theme an area after a big turd and get it perfect, but that doesn't mean it was a good choice.

You made me laugh so hard, I just spit out my coffee. :rotfl2:

1. The Hat in MGM...just blocks the Great Movie Ride...
2. Mickeys hand and wand at Spaceship Earth
3. Anything they do to Cinderella Castle!
JUST LEAVE THE MAJOR WDW ICONS ALONE!!!!!!

What they gonna do next? Put a big ol' birdnest next to the Tree of Life in the AK?????? :confused3 :confused3 :confused3

I just like the plain old WDW icons....not all jazzed up or blocked!!!

Closing 20,000 Leagues....passed out in line as a kid, by the time I got back to WDW it was gone...maybe it was cheesy but now....I"LL NEVER know!

The whole building with Stitch need to be gutted. All they do is keep redocorating the same rooms.

First they had Mission to Mars - round room that vibrates.
Next came Alien Encounter - same round room with fancier seats and special lighting effects.
Now we have Stitch - same round room, same seats, just change the lighting a bit and install a different alien creature... instead of bug and scary we get cute and cuddly.

The Mission to Mars defintely had to go since the technology used was very dated.
Alien Encounter did not impress me.
Stitch I did not do on our last trip since one of the rooms was closed and I was not about to wait over an hour for this. Maybe next trip.

The problem as I see it is that as long as Disney keeps on reusing these rooms as they are - just to round theatres - there is not going to be a real successful attraction in this location.

I think the Tiki room is a real disappointment. I loved that ride as a kid and couldn't wait to take my son! I had to take him out of there he was scared so bad!!!!!!!!!

What do you consider it to be?

Maybe the MGM Hat?

What about changing Alien Encounter to Stitchs Great Escape?

Or maybe its when Disneyland got rid of the Main Street Electrical parade, and replaced it with a street show called "Light Magic", the $20 million dollar disaster disappeared from Main Street after 3 months, and never returned.

So many things to choose from!

We all love Disney, but their not perfect everytime!

So what is your choice for Disneys BIGGEST park blunder?

LOL! If you hate the hat then you'll love this clip!!!

I vote for Stitch and the Drew Carey sound show. Alien Encounter was not any better and Drew is not even close to funny(he is from Cleveland and I would not expect much more). There will always have to be changes Disney the classics will never go but it will take trial and error for the other stuff. I think Disney is aware of Stitch's unpopularity and you will probably see a change in coming years. IMO there needs to be some changes at MGM with show like Millionaire and Drew and Disney playhouse it makes the park rather boring IMO. This place has good "base" attreations but it is just the little thing there that need fine tuning and I think it could be great. For my family this park take sabout a half day to do it all(that appeals to us), but I guess thats cool so we can sleep in one day. just my two cents! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

It's not so much the big hat at the Studios as it is the LOCATION of the big hat. It blocks ones view of the theater behind it, which, in my opinion, is a remarkable building. And, when the big hat was under construction, I was thinking that there would probably be an interesting attraction associated with it. Not so! Just another place to shop, which is hardly necessary at WDW.

Enjoy.

Great thread!
About Disney theming a turd... Don't they have one in the HISTK playground? lol.
Also, big miss for us... The Diamond Horseshoe Revue. We LOVED it! And we could get a hot cup of chili and a sandwich. Great in December. (Our honeymoon and 2nd anni trip both had visits there, but by the time of the next trip, it was gone. :guilty: )

Take away:

  • The MGM hat
Put back:

  • Hunchback Show
  • Dreamfinder (the original Imagination)
  • Food Rocks (my son's favorite)
My gripe about the Swan/Dolphin is the decor of the building exterior. The Swan is themed with ocean waves, while the dolphin has reeds/leaves. Shouldn't it be reversed? This has always bugged me.

I have to agree with the closing o Diamond Horseshoe Revue. It was a poor mans Hoop De Doo. :thumbsup2

While I like primevil whirl, I can't stand the Dinoland themeing.

It's a great thought to have a the monorail run through wilderness lodge, but you have to figure the cost would go up. I think most people chose WL because it's a deluxe at a moderate price.

If you want an interesting perspective on things done wrong at Disney read these peoples Blog, they were (or are) imagineers at Disney and they goes into details most of us never pick up about changes made to the park that have ruined the flow of the parks.
