Bigger Canadian Space on Disboards

Would you like a whole Canadain Disboards area, similar to the UK area?

  • Yes( true north stong and free. answer)

  • No (Empire Loyalist who should never have settled, here answer)

Results are only viewable after voting.
I voted "no" because of the history of the DVC section. We used to have a DVC-community board. And a couple of years ago they took it away. The Mods asked for anything off topic to go to the DIS CB.

And they meant it! Don't let miscellaneous section fool ya....they will move any friendly chatter and discussion that is CB related. And at the time DVCers were so mad/sad to have their CB taken away and some of them mentioned the Cdn. Board and UK forums as being able to still post friendly "chatter' (for lack of a better word). I miss it. It was nice to post to a smaller group. Many used it to talk about life and such and catch up. Nothing to do with being exclusive. Just a smaller group.

So really...if that happened here. Do you know how many of our threads would be instantly moved to the CB? :rotfl: Many!!!!!!:rotfl:

So I'm rambling. But this forum and the lack of mods is the best kept secret. I wouldn't want to tip them off.

After reading some great input from the posters I to have adapted my views a bit.

Asking for our own area, like the Disboardsers from the UK, doesn't seem too popular among the posters as opposed to the voters who would like their own place. I now agree.

I would be content with a couple sub-forums section similar to what they have over at the cruise forums, as opposed to a whole Canadian section like the UK area. .

I really enjoy trolling the various forums throughout the board but would enjoy a few more of our forums here that are Canadian centric.

Folks seemed concerned about intervention by the "mods". I too don't like too much meddling but posting here is a privilege and not a right.
I've had a couple of my threads in different forums merged with similar threads. Didn't bother me too much.
Perhaps the "mods" are little more tolerant of friendly chatter is places such as the UK and Canadian areas is because we don't have as many areas to post in as the Southern North Americans

So what would help obtaining sub forums?

Advertisers willing to sponsor sub forums?

Revolt by the peasants?

Canadians swarming other boards?
Using bizarre spelling and terms such as

  • Harbour
  • Labour
  • Doughnut
  • Centre
  • Grey
  • Kilometre
  • Litre
  • Tobbagan
  • Toque
  • Eavestrough
  • We don't say aboot it is about
  • Talking about tea without saying hot
  • Hockey without mentioning ice
  • Our Thanksgiving
  • Canada Day
  • Discussing how we won the war of 1812
  • How small Texas is compared to most provinces.
  • What a drag that US money is all the same colour

Any and all constructive, humourous, ironic, witty and irreverent (hey I'll even take a little sarcasm) input is always welcome.

Remember I really love Disney and like most Americans.

Also if anyone can clearly define what is a forum, sub forum and thread as laid out in the Disboards Magna Carta. I have a pretty good idea but would like to be sure.

Keep on Votin' Citizens

I like the "subforum" idea. I don't think there's enough traffic to have multiple boards, but a subforum or 2 to separate the completely OT, but purely Cdn, threads would be nice.

And, didn't you hear? There is a new O! Canada film!! Martin Short narrates; Eva Avila sings the accompanying song. There's a whole article in today's Sunday Sun in the travel section. Now I want to go see it!

(And I did my part in the exclusively Canadian banter....how many Americans know who Eva Avila is?!?) :confused3 :lmao:

I bet a lot of Northern North Americans don't know who Eva is. As for the Southern North Americans not many know who Eva is, but I'm sure her name will be googled pretty quick.

I met Eva the day after the event that made her name noteworthy. I shot an interview with her, otherwise I wouldn't have known who she was.

Good trivia question.

Here's one.
Name Canada's first Capital? Not Lower or Upper Canada's, but Canada's first Capital

You think so? (Following is said with sarcasm) With all the huge numbers they talk about every time?

Anyway, it's a shame, because every Cdn group has been better than the US ones, our family thinks. So far the best was the Jacob Hoggard year...they were ALL awesome!

I googled your question & am surprised by the answer. However, the name of the city probably should give it away? I won't post the answer in case some others would like to try to guess.

Back to the regularly scheduled topic...I think you'll have to start a new poll.

There is another website that is exclusively for Canadians. I have perused that sight and have seen some familiar faces over there:goodvibes from this board. Moderation is hit and miss on this board. One day they will allow something and another day completely delete the thread and post in it's entirety even if it is exactly the same subject. Those looking for "The Canadian Travel agent" and much more relaxed rules may want to check out "the other Canadian board". Unfortunately rules are made because people abuse their posting privledges. No revolts, no swarming...don't even waste your time trying to change things here Ham Ham. As you are aware the "other board" is quite happy to welcome new Canadian members.

Here's some ratings info. Huge for a show, but only watched by 10% of the population. I don't watch the show (Canadian or US version) and couldn't tell you who won last time.

All the talk about swarming and any unlawful act is done in the spirit of humour and I hope folks take it that way.

Being a proud Canadian I just wanted to see a little more space of our own. I love answering and reading about transportation questions, issues.

Not a big trip report fan and enjoy the whole community thing. Being a new DVC owner and I'm sure many of Canadians own DVC, it might be good to have a forum of our own.

I just thought that other might feel the same way. But if folks are happy with the way things are than so be it.

Don't get me wrong I appreciate all that the Disboards provides for us and do not endorse any kind of revolt or popular uprising.

As for that other site I think I have found it, signed up, but have yet to have posting privileges.

I didn't start this thread to have folks defect to the other board. But you can never have too much diversity of opinions.

Oh we all know your opinions on this matter are tongue in cheek.:goodvibes I am certainly not offended at all and know it's all good!. Your efforts are greatly appreciated!

This is an interesting proposition.. As a Canadian (and not a mod) .. I'd lean as Ham most recently suggested to a couple of sub forums for community and whatever .. and the main Canadian board for trip planning.

:)

A board or forum .. is one of the MAIN things in the listing on the homepage of the DIS. Currently the Canadian section is a "BOARD"

A SubForum or Sub-Board is like a folder containing a bunch of threads. Currently the Canadian section has no Sub-boards whatsoever.

Everything listed on the Canadian board for example, is a thread.

Either I've made it worse or hopefully.. a little bit better.

If the users of this forum want, I can approach the admins (or Webmasters) about creating whatever you want once a concensus has been reached.

:)

I voted on this awhile ago. I just wanted to bump it back up.

I'd really like to have a Canadian budget or money-saving section. I get jealous reading about all the great deals the US shoppers seem to have, and many of the tips don't seem to apply to Canada.

I need to save more money so I can go to WDW more often!

I'm with Teresa. As a SAHM, budgeting is a big part of our life. I love when others share their Canadian finds, and it means less seaching on the US budget thread for what I'm seeking.

I would also love to see a Trade and/or eBay thread for Canadians :thumbsup2

I'm for it. I can't believe I didn't see this in Oct and vote then.
I think if we Canadians "bumped" things like our friends to the south we'd have more votes by now???:confused3

Bumping this up.... :)

Not sure where the last post on this was..

But I had suggested to HAM .. something like:

Three Sub-boards

- Canadian Community Board (new board in Canadian forum for non-trip related posts)
- Canadian DVC Board
- Canadian Transportation Board.

And the homebase board.
- Canadian Trip Planning (same board as exists now)

I like the setup suggested below... covers all bases!
How do we get this done

Still collecting opinions.. but hopefully after things settle down with the 'speed issues' for the DIS, I can grab the attention of a webmaster to get this done.

Stay tuned!

And love to hear all opinions... we want to create a larger Canadian section that meets the needs of the folks who come and post here!
