ANAHEIM, Calif. -- A locomotive broke loose from a train on Disneyland's Big Thunder Mountain Railroad attraction Friday, killing one rider and injuring at least 10 others, police and hospital officials said.
An Anaheim city spokesman said the person who died was an adult male.
Earlier, one victim had been reported in critical condition at the University of California Irvine Medical Center. But it's still not clear if that's the person who died.
Additional information wasn't immediately available, police Sgt. Rick Martinez said.
The roller coaster accident occurred at 11:20 a.m. PDT, Disneyland spokeswoman Ruthy Flores said.
Television helicopters showed a triage unit set up near the ride and one person being wheeled to an ambulance on a stretcher.
The popular attraction is built around an Old West mine train that becomes a runaway as it rolls through mountain tunnels.
Anaheim fire and police and Disneyland officials reported to the scene to investigate.
