Big Thunder closing thru 2013 (rumor)

Word on the street is BTMRR is not going down until January 2013.

END of January? LOL Not to be picky or anything, but it would rock if they waited until after MLK day. :thumbsup2

Hint hint Disney.... in case you happen to read the Dis. :rotfl:

I think the announcement for all the refurbs has been released and BTMRR was not on the list. The only one that is noted for this Fall that was mistakenly left off the list was IJA (which bums me out cause I'll miss this one on our trip). I love the Indiana Jones Adventure and it is truly one of the best line queue's in all of Disney.

Here is the list I saw on mouseplanet and also confirmed on mice chat.

QUOTED BELOW from MousePad.

Now Late Summer 2012: Compass Books has closed and is under construction to open an Earl of Sandwich restaurant.

Just bump it into February! :)

Totally works for me. :cool1:

I just hope Indy really is done in Dec. That was the one ride I didn't get to do (I know I know!!!) even though I had FP for it every day. It just didn't happen. So I'd be forever grateful to the Refurb Gods if it was really working perfectly when I'm there in January.

I hope that BTRR is running in oct and early November! I have a huge fear of rides that may create motion sickness, but for some reason I really want to go on BTRR! I couldn't do it two years ago at DL, and again panicked at the start of the line for it in DW, I'm hoping 3rd time lucky!! I won't say there was not a sense of relief when I heard that it may be down while we are there, but it's something that I really want to do, and think I need to to get over my fears!! Lol. Not really concerned for Indy though, there is no chance of me ever going on it, but DH and DD6 will be extremely disappointed!!

Oh ok, my mistake I assumed the big lengthy list of refurbs from mousepad posted earlier was news.

Unless I missed it MousePlanet did not discuss BTMRR. And even so MP is not official and is rumor in the end - albeit credible rumor.

I am so excited to hear this news!! BTMRR is my son's favorite ride and we are going in October for his bday!!

Correct that the refurb list first noted on MousePlanet did not discuss BTMRR, and it is still technically rumor and not news. MiceAge seems to bring this rumor back to the forefront every so often.

As for the much-discussed list, it was posted on MousePlanet as the list provided by Disney to travel agencies, etc., so I think it is more than rumor. This same listed has been posted now on this site as well under the Planning Category in Rehabs/Closings. MousePlanet, like this site, does post non-rumor news and informational items in addition to all of the other kinds of content.

Exactly, it was NOT listed and so I assumed that it would not be undergoing refurb in October. That is why I said I was so excited! And that is when you burst my bubble and I stated my mistake for assuming! I am sorry for assuming, I get it, I will wait until it is posted on Disney's website.

Well, after Al Lutz reported it and a lot hubbub happened, it looks like you will be in luck and it will stay open for the rest of the year. :)

Sadly, I wouldn't count on that. Indiana Jones was just announced like 10-14 days ago? For a rehab that starts next week. The only warning everyone had was the rumor from MiceAge. Hopefully BTMRR won't go down while IJA is down, but I don't think you can count on that until you're actually there and it's open!

Blah, I hope so! I'm still cryin' about IJA :)

Well ... "waiting until it is posted on the web site" sounds reasonable, but ... it was not too long ago that Disneyland closed an entire land (a small one, admittedly, but Critter Country still counts) with no advance notice, and it was closed for several days before being noted on the Disneyland web site.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Is it news when a new rumor about an old rumor is confirmed, or is a report of a rumor of old news being wrong new news? :confused3

As for "the list", it is indeed "official" - the original link to the Disney site has been posted elsewhere, but "official" and "accurate" are not one and the same, as admitted up front: "Please be advised that the refurbishment information provided is subject to change without notice ..."

The only update to this rumor that I can find is this article from Mouseplanet by David Koenig about the IJ refurb, http://www.mouseplanet.com/10083/Indiana_Jones_Goes_Under_the_Knife
where he states:
"Although other online sources cite Big Thunder Mountain as next in line, that coaster’s top-to-bottom safety update/rebuild is not scheduled to begin until January."
Perhaps the BTMRR refurb has been delayed? Until when, who knows? Seems like plans are always changing.
