Big Thunder closing thru 2013 (rumor)

If this rumor turns out to be true and BTMRR undergoes a refurb, I doubt the lines will be long for years. Remember the revamped Star Tours? Lines were long for months. You can now get FPs well into the evening and the standby line was very reasonable last week.

Yeah, but that's Star Tours. Have you ever been on it?

I only go to DL once every year or r two but evey time a major ride is down. Matterhorn, Screamin' Space Mountain. It's just luck of the draw..... But not a deal breaker. Adds to the experience- never the same twice!

Well, I hope they do. I'm willing to do without rides for a while if it means they will be improved when they come back. It's like getting a shot- it hurts but you have to do it. I think they need to do the same with Indy. That ride seems to be down all the time anyway. BTMRR was getting to be secondary ride for us anyway. When we didn't know what other FP to get, we could always pick one up there. The best time to ride it is at night! The bats are awake in the cave and the town music is lively. :goodvibes

Bring on the rehabs.

If I lived in California, or was able to attend the DLR annually, I would definitely feel the same way.

We're visiting from Australia in November. Indie and btmrr are two of my favourite rides so I'm disappointed. I cant just pop back when they open back up.

That's disappointing.

I'll be there in early December. Why can't they wait tell after New Years to close the ride?

Not be a broken record on this board, hehe, but man I hope they don't re-do the cars and make them tighter. Every remodel seems to bring smaller and smaller cars.

We were there June 2011 and it was down. Too bad they are closing it again. We were able to ride this year thank heavens.

Weird....we were there in June 2011 and everything was running lol.

Anyway, when stuff like this comes up, I too look at it as a time to enjoy the other things in the park. I can see where it would be more frustrating for those who can't go as often though.

Big Thunder had a brief refurb in June of last year. I believe it was from the end of May until around June 8 or 9, before the summer season officially began. PP must have just had the misfortune to visit during that window of time.

While I would be sad if either of them are down when the wife and I visit in December, both rides need some TLC. Last christmas when we were there, BTMRR was down more then it was up, though I finally got the wife to ride it at night and she loved it. And dear god poor Indy. He's in sadder shape then in kingdom of the crystal skull ;) One trip in June we were stuck at the boulder part with no boulder rolling towards us. Thankfully we had some cute teens who kept "flirting" and teasing the animatronic Indy hanging from the rope for the few minutes we were stuck, and another ride we knew which door we were getting as we turned the corner since it was already open and none of the lights were flashing.

Word on the street is BTMRR is not going down until January 2013.

When we were there last year the week after Thanksgiving, it was down more than working. And I think the year before that when we went at the same time it wasn't working either as we never rode it then. We did get to ride it 1x though last year. Love this ride!!

I just did a little more research & came up with a delay to the refurb. From what I've found, we are looking at a Jan 2013 time frame.:thumbsup2

That would be great. We planned our trip for Nov 24-Dec 1 which would have meant that both Indy and BTMRR could have been done. My son is now tall enough to ride Indy so we may postpone our trip so we can ride Indy.

I sure hope this is true. I know we take our chances going in the off-season but I have never seen the Halloween decorations and love the fall. The problem is... Big Thunder is my best friends favorite ride and I would hate for her to miss it.

Keeping my fingers crossed it is still open in October.
