We tent camped the week after Thanksgiving at Fort Wilderness and had a great time. It was our first time there and everything was perfect. I even took a 9pm swim with my 8yr old son and 5 yr old daughter. The water felt about 65 degrees but sometimes ya just gotta do what a Dad's gotta do.
Anyway...I read a tip on this board somewhere in the past month and wanted to say Thanks to the poster, but now I can't find the post. The tip was for tent camping and to buy a cheap painters plastic sheet to place under the tent. We had always taken a large 20' X 15' tarp along with us and it is always sandy and muddy on the bottom when we pull up camp. We bought the painters' sheet this time and spread them out under the tent. GREAT IDEA! The tent stayed clean and dry on the bottom, and at the end of the trip we just wadded up the wrap and threw them away. Sticky sand and all.
(please don't lecture about saving the environment. Painters throw these away when they're done using them too :sunny: )

Thanks for the tip! :wave2:

ckkelley gives great tips regarding tent camping and I am sure you read her tip in her 7/11/05 reply to mom2boys

Howdy,

I'm glad I was helpful!!

I just got back from Ft. Wilderness on Wednesday night!! I miss that place!!! It's really true, being able to throw away that plastic instead of having to clean up the bottom of your tent is priceless!!!

You're absolutely right! :worship: It was clkelly. But the post I read was the reply to AllisonG on 11-06-05. (I did a search for your posts and found the one that I had read)
I hadn't realized that your post is where I also read the idea to bring the timer for the lights around the campsite. We brought 1 red and 1 green rope light to wrap the front of the tent (Christmas colors of course) and strung 1 small set of Christmas lights inside the tent for interior lights. At dusk the timer turned them on for us, and was set to automatically turn them off after we'd gotten settled in for the night.

The one thing we forgot that I can't believe we forgot...OFF mosquito spray. Spent $8 for a can at the Settlement, but it was needed. We always keep 1-2 cans of this stuff in our trunk during the summer months but had already removed them for Illinois winter. Forgot to throw it back in the trunk.

Thanks again for the great tips!
Merry Christmas!!! :wave2:
