Big Screen TV's

Ok......but there is a plug area in the back of the TV that says "HDMI"....should something be plugged into that?? Would it make it better?? And what should it go into then?? I guess what I am saying....Do I need an HDMI cable???

Only if there is something to plug in on the other side.

Sounds like right now you are running the TV using the internal tuner so you don't need one until you get Direct TV, and then you might want to run an HDMI cable from the box to the TV. There are also DVD and HD-DVD/Blue Ray players that also can be connected via an HDMI cable.

Thanks....I am looking into some direct tv deals now. Circuit City was really no help in explaining anything. They didn't even "offer" an ext warranty...and you know how normally they push that to death!!! I looked at some online forums and found out that you can buy a ext warranty directly from Sony for about 1/2 the price of CC's....and you can purchase it within 60 days....so that is what I am leaning towards.

Does anyone love their TV enough to recommend it?

I'm currently looking to buy a 37-42" TV...Probably an LCD. Does anyone have good experiences to share?

I highly recomend you check out this http://www.cnet.com/4520-7874_1-5108443-2.html?tag=chart . It should answer many questions, be sure to follow the link that talks specificially about the sizes you are looking at. I know there is a lot of well meaning people on this thread, but not all of the info is accurate.

I'd recommend ours, it's a 56 inch theater wide Toshiba HD DLP Projection. It has both 1080p and 720p progressive resolution. It took me some getting used to in terms of on screen programming, but now that I do, it's great!

We have Dish Network.

OK....now what exactly does HDMI mean?? We just bought a Sony Grand Wega 50" LCD a couple weeks ago and it has this....

We are also in the process of deciding to get direct TV. Right now we are just using an inside HD antenna.

Lisa, sorry to be so long in getting back to you. I had to wait til I could ask DH what HDMI means. He said there was an earlier hi-def technology called DVI. He said DVI has taken a backseat to HDMI, which he thinks will be around for a while. He said since we have analog cable, and fairly inexpensive older DVD/VHS equipment, we wouldn't get much use from it at the moment. Apparently, if you have newer high-end dvd players, or digital cable, then HDMI would work with that technology. I'm not great at explaining this, but if you have more questions, I'll be glad to ask him and get back with you.

Thanks Kirsten....where are the days we could just get a TV and plug it in a "go"???? LOL!! Anyway, we have the old dig cable box so we probably aren't going to need that input unless we get direct TV....right now I am getting a major major deal through our cable for just regular digital...not HD, so I don't want to screw that up....I may even try that outside antenna thing too...

Not sure what you mean by that since opinions on picture quality are just that, opinions. Outisde the specs, very few "experts" can agree on anything.

What I mean by that is, if you are going to spend big bucks on a tv, you should research what the professionals have to say about it. Go to some sites like the one I posted or Consumer reports (I didnt link to that one because you have to pay) and find out how sets are rating. Dont rely on what people on an internet board are saying. If you are going to rely on an internet board, you should at least find one that is related to the subject. Would you take Disney advise from a TV board? Probably not!

The article I linked to covers common myths of plasmas and LCD tv's- such as life span, burn in, etc.

We have a 60" Sony Grand Wega, with all the bells and whistles a Best Buy salesman can sell. It is an awesome TV, though. Great quality on the regular channels and awesome on the HD channels Comcast hasn't blocked yet. :rolleyes1 Right now I'm sitting at angle on the side and I can see every Doodlebop still. When we do movies, it's just incredible.
