Does anyone love their TV enough to recommend it?

I'm currently looking to buy a 37-42" TV...Probably an LCD. Does anyone have good experiences to share?

I don't have one but if I were to buy one, I would buy the Panasonic Plasma. Consumer Reports rated it the best. When I thought my tv was going to die I researched it and I can't remember why I felt that the Plasma tv was better than the LCD but do remember that it was at least a better value. There could have been more.

DH did very well at picking out a new tv when I gave him free rein - my only requirement was that it fit in our tv cabinet. He came back with a 37" (it may be 39") LG hi-def LCD tv that fits perfectly! The resolution on it is great. No glare. In fact even my tight-wad dad decided it was time to replace their 20 year old paperwei.. tv. He got the LG hi-def LCD in the 41" model. Now that's big. The price wasn't too outrageous either which is how we ended up with one.
Happy shopping!

We have a 61" JVC HD-ILA Rear Projection TV and I absolutely LOVE it!! The picture is amazing (esp. in HD) and there is no glare at all.

According to my son LCD screens have less returns for trouple shooting then plasma. he works at best buy. We own 3 sony lcd and love them the one in the living room is 60 inch it has great picture. They all do but itis the largest. We have had no trouble with any of them.:thumbsup2

We have a 37" Panasonic Plasma in the basement and a 27" Panasonic LCD in the den. We really like them both. Definitely would recomment Panasonic. They were the top rated when we bought them and it seems to have panned out. I recently read that LG is now rated above Panasonic if that sort of thing matters.

my parents also have a panasonic plasma. iirc, they've had it for 2 years or so. the picture on it is awesome!

My DH and I went back and forth about what to buy. When we finally decided that it was not going to hang on the wall we went with LCD. We bought a 52" Sony Wega 1080p tv about 4 months ago. I love it. The only problem that our family has is that we all want to watch that tv and we tend to fight over it. My poor DH usually loses out. Poor guy. Guess he shouldn't have married a electronics nut :rotfl2: Good luck on your search.

We just bought a Panasonic Vieja 32" LCD with HDMI. DH did tons of research, and Panasonic was rated very highly. He chose this particular one because he said it would support older technology plus emerging technology (we have lots of VHS tapes that are ancient, but family faves). Unfortunately, when we buy stuff, we tend to keep it a long time, so it had to be something he felt wouldn't have obsolescence issues. He had seen a Sanyo that was $300 cheaper but the Panasonic has better viewing from different angles.

We have the LG 37" too and we like it alot.

Be aware that plasma TV's have a lot of screen glare while LCD's have almost none. Could make a big difference depending on where you put the TV.

Just something to think about. At that size I find the picture quality to be about the same other than the glare isssue.

Personally I have a 50" Samsung DLP. No glare, which is important since it's next to the huge windows in our living room.

We have a Sony 42" Grand Wega and love it. We have no complaints whatsoever about it.

OK....now what exactly does HDMI mean?? We just bought a Sony Grand Wega 50" LCD a couple weeks ago and it has this....

We are also in the process of deciding to get direct TV. Right now we are just using an inside HD antenna.

High Def. Multimedia Interface. Its how the info is processed between the source and the tv picture. Its a digital format.

HDMI is a digital connection to the TV that is supposed to be better than any of the other connection types. If you have an older DVD player it likley doesn't have an HDMI connection on the back. The newer cable/Direct TV boxes will have an HDMI connection on the back.

Ok......but there is a plug area in the back of the TV that says "HDMI"....should something be plugged into that?? Would it make it better?? And what should it go into then?? I guess what I am saying....Do I need an HDMI cable???

The picture still comes in quite clear even without an HD box...except when you put it in full screen.....people look short and fat (this is using the TV normal....not with the HD antenna)

Various components have different types of conections. HDMI is one of the various connections that have replaced "coaxial" cable. Some have it, some don't depending on age and quality of the equipment. As for the people looking short and fat- that is what happens on some models when you are watching something that is being stretched to fit the screen. Shows that are not in HD format are going to be made in a different ratio then the HD shows. Your tv is shaped for HD broadcasts. Eventually most things will be broadcast that way. For now you have a choice between the black / gray bars on the sides or stretched into odd shapes. Some tv's do a better job at it then others.
