Big screen tv owners HELP!!

HI all~ need some help here. I am in the process of buying a new tv and I was wondering if anyone owns the 51" sony hdtv or the 46" sony tv? I can get a really good deal on the 51" but I am afraid its just too much tv. Now I know all the men out there are thinking there is no such thing as too much tv, I dont want it to over power my living room the problem is i can get the 51" almost the exact same price as the 46" so I cant pass it up right? all the reviews I have read states that the 46" has better picture quality. So please help if you have one of these tvs, any input would be helpful. Thanks

Whirlsy,

Do you know the model numbers of each? One of the big concerns with Big Screen/Projection TVs is viewing distance. You want to make sure that you can be far enough away, to get the best picture.

You can check out Sony Style Tv Page to find some of the specs. Your salesperson should also be able to tell you. If neither of those works, you can PM me with the model numbers, and I can find out at work tomorrow.

I was afraid to go too big, so we got a 53 inch from circuit city. We have a great room, and turns out we still could've gone much bigger. Circuit city gave me a cardboard cutout/mock 65 inch tv. I could tell that was the size we needed, so they swapped it out for me. We got a hitachi and we are thrilled with it. Good luck.

The recommended viewing distance for TV's (doesn't matter what kind) is 2.5 times the diagonal size.

IOW, the recommended viewing distance for a 51 inch TV is about 10 ft.

thanks guys~ we have been going over the reviews and it sounds like the 51" had some problems in the past, so tomorrow I will check out the serial number on it and make sure its not the old one. as for the model number it is kp51ws500 and kp46ws500 . thanks again

I don't own a large screen, but I have done some research as I would like to own one. I have seen comments in home theater forums from people who thought the tv they were getting was too big, but got it home and wished they had purchased something larger. I think you get spoiled pretty quickly.

Our first big screen TV was a 40" Pioneer. When it finally died, we went shopping for a new one and ended up with a 51". My wife thought that the new TV looked smaller when we were in the store. I don't think that there is any such thing as "too big" when it comes to a big screen TV. If it fits in the room, it's not too big.
