Big runDisney announcement coming in April

All that tells me is it won't be a tri. Like I commented there as soon as they changed their name from Disney Endurance to RunDisney I figured they wouldn't do a tri any time soon.

Plus, there is a bacteria in the lake that really prevents Disney from offering a tri. They have the 70.3 in place but it is not really a Disney event. The Disney events dried up soon after the bacteria was found.

I will divulge all I know then what I guess.

Looking at all the FB posts you get St Patrick's Day. It's not a Disney thing at all so it struck me funny last week when they posted. St Patty is on Saturday in 2012

Then you have the 5, 10 and 15 mentioned in various PB posts.

Relay is posted on a few posts

Baseball is a tie for future years

Then on the tags for the 2012 January relay you find... 10k 8k and 15k, along with the Half and full marathon tags. OK this one is a stretch and I would hope they include something longer than a 15k. (Oh, 8k - 5 miles, thus the 5 in the FB posts and an error on my original).

So I add it all up and get the guess.

I thought that this status was the first clue. I guess I'm all confused. :confused3

Or it could be me. I had a few moments after a really bad meeting so I took the phrase "The answer lies within these words" to mean the entire page of status updates. I could be trying to fit clues to the tags I stumbled onto over the weekend. Definitely a long stretch on my part. I think by guessing small I will be happily surprised if I am incorrect

Several people have guessed that it will be Star Wars, since "a new" and "hope" appear in the text. I want to believe, but doubt it - since (1) I would really like a Star Wars themed race, and (2) I doubt any RD is going to create a race that seems to "men-oriented".

(Oh cruel irony - it could be a Princess Leia half-marathon - a Star Wars themed, women-only race during a Star Wars weekend.)

But would the women have to wear bagels over their ears

OR they would have to wear a bikini slave outfit...not a good look on everyone.
:scared1:

First one, New, Hope....sounds like Star Wars theme to me.

The Star Wars thing would be a nice way for me to save SOME money on Disney races. Ick! (I'm probably the only person in the world that feels that way, but honestly I've NEVER gotten the hype.)

But if what was posted today was the FIRST clue, why are people looking down in previous posts??

On the card at the princess half it mentioned the clue "First." I was just reading into everything they had posted which appeared random, but they usually don't just post random things.

Just a guess. We'll see soon! :thumbsup2

IDK, I didn't do the Princess having been in Italy the week before (better choice for me...lol...not girlie in the least here).

I re-read the post on their FB page and actually THAT wasn't even the first clue. It says the first clue will be posted soon.

Ah well.

I am with you on that one...I have never even seen the movies. popcorn:: I tried to watch one but made it through 15 minutes. It would be great if they had this theme because I wouldn't be running it! ;)

Isn't St. Pat's so close to Princess and ESPN?

That's what I was thinking.

I don't have face book so my thought are...well, my thoughts, but anything late March to mid April will always have the Easter holiday factor and parks are so busy.

Now the Flower and Garden was during the Princess last year (10) until it changed to end of Feb. And the Minnie Marathon (15K) used to hit the end of F&G so who knows.

I think that the Jan. marathon weekend and Princess are too close together.

Guess I'll have to wait for the announcement.

I must say don't read anything into my guess. The only thing that actually has any weight in my post are the mysterious 8, 10 and 15k tags on the Active.com site for the 2012 marathon relay. In all seriousness, the web folks tied to the runDisney folks are notoriously bad at cutting and pasting between websites, etc. Take the ability to find the waivers a week early, the fact that I found pricing 5 days early, etc. This leads me to believe that these race distances are under heavy consideration within the organization.

It would not surprise me to see a weekend of endurance races ranging from marathon with relays down to the 8k/5mile or 5k. A marathon may be long for April but we run them in April along the Gulf coast. With Elite coming out with a twilight/night marathon, it would not surprise me to see a night marathon. But then everything in the paragraph is a pure guess.

I still believe April is the date just to give a full 12 months of hype and build up for the race. But it could be anywhere from February through April given the history of new race announcements. For a while Disney was announcing ten months out. That would overlay existing races so maybe that is not a real option, unless they can one of the late winter races.

Now to add a little more to the conversation, one of the issues with a marathon or half is that Disney seems married to running these races through MK. What draw is there to running the same course in a different time of year? I think there has to be conversations on how to change things up. Running the same course may not create a high demand, especially in a hotter season.

There is a brand new course that has never been raced starting from the Race car track and working back to Epcot. This course was created for the inaugural Princess half. Plans were scrapped once feedback on not allow princesses to run through the castle was heard. There is also an older marathon course that is completely different from the current venue. The venue would work better for a night course than a day course as MK was later in the race..... Not a great thing from the accountants perspective... that's why the race does everything in the world to get racers launched before 6:20 - allowing enough time for all to get through MK before park opening. There are other issues with the older marathon course; like part of the early course ran past what is now Boardwalk. That is not going to happen easily.

So, like everyone, I am anxiously awaiting real news.

Are night races starting to become more popular? I think that there would be some benefit to the accountants if another Marathon was held that went through the parks after the guests were on their way to the hotel or staying to cheer people on. I can't imagine not ever running through the castle and am shocked that they were considering not including it in the Inaugural Princess Half. What does every princess need? A Castle!! If anything, the Disney spies are probably enjoying reading about all the theories and sharp detective skills!

Whatever race Disney decides to announce, I (and just my personal opinion here) hope the course is something different than the same January 1/2 and Princess 1/2. I loved the Minnie 15K course, the Race for the Taste 10K course, the Tower of Terror 13K course and even though I was sick at the end, I really enjoyed most of the Wine and Dine 1/2 course because they were different. Running through the castle is not high on my list but running through the different parks or something to look at is high up there. To me, 11 of the 13.1 miles on the roadways are not fun.

DL and W&D are less than a month apart. I'm choosing to do them both, but no one is forcing me to. Ditto doing Marathon Weekend and the Princess for those who choose that...no one's making you do them. :goodvibes
