Big runDisney announcement coming in April

In all seriousness a LARGE tri is about 3,000 folks... of that, at most they would need 30-60 bikes.

I noticed you tag... You a new DVC'er? - If so --- Then Welcome Home!

We will be this summer. Pat wants to take the DVC tour before we settle on a property to buy. However, if they announce the Grand Floridian Villas before we get there this summer, we will be jumping on that.

We have enjoyed our points since we purchased.

Now on with the show

I think Disney would be making a big mistake with a tri. I don't think a lot of people are willing to bring their bicycles on the plane to MCO.

Look how many bring them to Kona. There are some reasons why I don't think it is a tri but lots of people do destination triathlons so bike transport isn't one of them.

I hope to aspire to a half Ironman someday and since they already have one on property that is good enough for me as far as a Disney tri goes.

One of my original 'guesses' was an IM event at WDW. A contact I have with WTC connections says no. But then they also said no to the IMTX just a year ago.

We will see. The logic line I saw was compelling for a large format tri, but I am not sure that anything less than the current half or an official distance Oly would be anything worth going to.

Cewait....they actually first started tossing around the idea of an IM in Texas in 2001 or so. Which is why I did my first at IMMOO in 2002, because they picked Wisconsin over TX.

Cripey...I bet you would enjoy a tri...let me know if you want to try one around your area or come over to Austin. Great fun. I do think I'm going to come out and watch part of the IM at the Woodlands in May. Let me know if you're around that day. The swim start and finish are certainly sights to behold! And the finish line rocks until midnight.

As for the hot and cold related to a WDW tri....the water is actually quite warm, at least it has been for the half ironman in May. But still not as hot as the run. :)

And yes....a big tri could only safely deal with up to about 3000 people. Maybe 5000 if they spread it out with starts for a few hours. Even a 2000 person tri can take at least 90 minutes to get everyone started. It would be foolish to do a mass start there, esp since a WDW would draw people of a lot of different ability levels.

I would love to do a tri but am terrified of what possibly lurks in the water. I know it's probably not rational, but it's the only thing that keeps me from "tri-ing"!

lol, I'm with you. I also get very anxious swimming around a lot of other people because I am not a strong swimmer. The thought of being in the water with dozens and dozens of people (or more, not sure how many swim at the same time) is the stuff my nightmares are made of.

I would definitely be out if it is a tri, but at least I'd have plenty of other races to do!

I was actually just reading about the IM coming to the Woodlands yesterday, I had no idea! I told my BF I definitely wanted to be out there that day to watch some of the action so we should definitely meet up to say hello! I also recently found out that The Woodlands is holding it's own full and half marathon next year! Evidently they did a full back in 1993, but have never done a half...at least that's what I think I read. It's going to be small too...I think 7000 total for both races...registration is open but I think the race is the weekend after the Princess next year so if I do that one again, I won't be able to do the one here...but BF may do the full if he doesn't get into the Houston full again and there's still space available.

I'm seeing a Cirque show this evening so won't be around for today's clue, but can't wait to get home and check in to see everyone's thoughts! Happy saturday!!!

You can use that "fear" of what's in the water to make you swim faster, thus race faster! I have a lot of friends who don't like the swim part as well, but at least it's the first part of the tri so you get it over with fast... Personally your biggest threat in the water is the other athletes...

Clue #5

app_full_proxy.php

I could be wrong, but I think the little intro blurb to the clues might be important for deciphering the clues. For example, today for clue 5, it said "Official Race Clue 5: Looks like we’re closing the distance on our reveal date as we hit the halfway mark! See if you can solve today’s exclusive fan riddle at the link below. And if you get stuck, don’t worry, just invite your friends and work together in the comments with your fellow runDisney fans." (emphasis added)

So i think this in some way tells us the distance involved in the new race. no idea what it means, of course.... But the last marker on the bingo card seems to be between the 72 and 73. And if that means it is 72.5 miles -- I'm out. :rolleyes1

like i've said before - poo on these clues.

i keep looking at the clues ONLY because they show up in my facebook feed. then each time i think, "meh, the more clues they give the less i'm caring about this."

i mean, there's nothing i can do with these clues - i can't book anything because 1) i don't know WHERE this "race" will be and 2) i don't know WHEN it'll be. not only that but i don't even know if it's a running race or not.

it would have been better if they had just said, "we're announcing our new race on april 15th. stay tuned."

I think today's clue means that there will be at least 2 people who will spend 30 minutes trying to figure out what the 72-73 blob means.

Ok, I'm being snarky. I'll spend about 5 min. trying to figure it out and then I give up and just wait for the next clue. I have no idea. And Nancy, hormonal or not - these clues will make you crazy it let them. ;)

Have to say that Ovo was one of the weirdest ones I have seen; but one of the more entertaining at the same time.

You should volunteer rather than watch. Being closer to the action could increase the curiosity.
