Big runDisney announcement coming in April

Actually, I was thinking a little incorrectly, also....I consider them both one lake since there is a conduit between the two and boat traffic to mix the water. So the sprint tris were in 7 Seas and the longer events in Bay lake. And I am not a real fan of the water there.

So if it wasn't for that pesky water issue you could swim over the water bridge and then run under it. ;)

Why laugh...All tris to date have swam in 7 seas.... including the current IM FL 70.3

The humidity would be bad... May is tough already. Anytime between June and the first of October brings in the amoeba, naegleria fowleri (microbial junk, thanks rubato) that you do not want to be in. March/April is not a bad time. May not even need a wetsuit depending on how warm Feb is in the given year. Though I am not much for destination tris in the early spring.

I think Disney wants to do another tri in house. I think they are mifffed that they gave away one of the better periods (May) and then had to pull their self-produced event. Saying that, I would also think that they would love to have a well positioned production company add Disney as a venue. Elite is looking for new home for their new series and Disney would foot the bill nicely.

So the issue would be what event would you hold. The Olympic distance failed and was bitten with all sorts of issues - some Disney driven... Point to point bike course and a bike course that was not an Oly distance. Sprint events are not a 'big' draw. in the big venue IM distances, the 70.3 is there in May and a full would be a tough for WDW to manage since is takes roads out of service for the entire day.

I would do a tri if held in the spring or fall and the disney cost did not make a sprint price out like an IM.

But all this aside, I think we are looking at an expanded ESPN weekend - that is until clue 2 changes my mind.

I really need to be working and training. I wish this would end and the mouse would just announce.

Interesting thought about Elite putting on an event. Since Disney lets the WTC do an event onsite maybe they would let Elite put one of the TriRock events in the resort somewhere. If you look at the current TriRock events two are multiple distance so since they already have a 70.3 they could have the TriRock Disney consist of both a Sprint and an Olympic.

Perhaps they will do a biathlon or duathlon along with a half. This would eliminate the swimming issues and would still allow for a multisport event. It would also allow for a multi-day event as opposed to a single day event like the W&D (5K and half same day). 5K run-10K bike-5K run on Sat and Half marathon and half marathon relay on Sunday.

All that being said I don't think any of it will have anything to do with this announcement. I still think it will be a running only race with a 5K, half, and half relay. If the people at Run Disney are reading this thread they are probably laughing at how off we all are.

You know they laughing the tails off!

It's time for a new clue, or did the tri question serve as the clue - creating an every other day clue?

All the possible triathalon talk today just now made me think about something no one has brought up yet I don't think...triathalon participants transporting their bikes to the event??? Wouldn't that be a huge hassle (and expensive!) unless you were driving to WDW? Seems like something that would be considered, but maybe I don't have a realistic view of the actual amount of people that drive vs. fly to WDW to participate in these events. :confused3

That's a really good point.

The tri question shouldn't be a clue. They said all of the clues will be in their little widget on the site. I think they put that out there to throw everyone off.

The first clue was posted around this time yesterday. We'll see if we'll get clue #2 today or if they are reaaaaaally going to drag this out.

I thought the same thing too. I've been thinking about trying a tri, but doing one in Florida would be a pain. I don't think a bike will fit into my carry on as easily as my running shoes do:rotfl:

We all get to Kona! 99% of participants come over in a plane. That will limit the field depending on the size of the event. No way will I drive more than 2 -3 hours for a sprint and do not think I would ever fly... One could possibly get me on a plane for an olympic if it were really special or unique. However, for a longer venue, flying is the way to go. You just budget for it in your trip plans.

Though in answer to your question about driving, a ti will push out the driving radius by a considerable amount just to avoid the hassle factor.

Note that one of the real advantages of teaming with WTC or Elite is that they team with a company who circles the country's major metro areas and picks up bikes. The really cool thing about this service is that they arrive in the same condition as they were when they left the LBS. No disassembly of bars, saddle, etc. and in a good tuned up condition. The hassle with this service is that you may lose you race bike 3 weeks pre-race, depending on how far you are from the race. You do get an extra bag that travels with the bike, so pedals and CO2 cartridges get to ride also...

I stand by my statement that people are reading FAR too much into every little thing posted on their FB page.

Sometimes a status is JUST a status.

I agree.

It looks like we aren't getting a new clue today. The "fun" of the guessing game is going to wear off if they drag it out too long.

THere's already a sprint distance tri at WDW in May:

Danskin Tri

It's a girly thing over Mother's Day weekend.

Unless Disney is planning to kick Danskin out and do their own next year :confused3

I'm all for bringing back the Minnie!

I agree, the clue would be posted in their clue section if it was an actual clue. I'm really hoping this doesn't drag out until the end of April. I was hoping for a clue everyday with the big reveal April 1st!

I'm all for bringing back the Minnie!

since we are speculating and fantasizing here, I am going to have to throw my vote behind this one! That. Would. Be. Awesome!!!!!!

A girl can dream, can't she?

Oh, and yes, after waiting patiently for the 2nd clue allday, i am over this little game. But I suspect my enthusiasm will return with the next clue.

I don't think it's going to be a tri, because you can't have as many people do it. They are ratcheting the marathon weekend races over 20,000 runners; Princess had about 15,000 registered. Even the big triathlons are usually no more than 2000 or 3000 people, with a few exceptions (I think Chicago is a really big one).

Swimming in Bay Lake is not really that bad, but the water is very dark because of the tannins. And weedy in places. And smells of boat fuel. The 1/2 Ironman has always been in Bay Lake, Danskin is now at Bay Lake, but used to be in the Seven Seas Lagoon. The amoeba thing is mainly a problem if you get water way up your nose...regular swimming shouldn't be a huge issue, but there is still some danger there. Also, most of the swim is out in the deeper waters so less an issue for that.

And like Matt said...I've swum in much skankier and warmer water.

Wonder why there wasn't a clue...oh, well...

I'm with everyone whose enthusiasm is waning for the game. It feels like they're overhyping the announcement. Not sure why they don't make it a sweepstakes of some sort, with people submitting their best guesses. They could give away a grand prize of a trip with registration and several other levels from a free race entry to runDisney merchandise. That would keep interest in the announcement high.

Wait...I do know why they're not doing that. Because it's runDisney and they dont' have to. :lmao:

Bummer! I just made it home from my after-work run (been a little warm this week...gonna be an awfully looooong summer :sad1:) and I thought FOR SURE you guys would already be discussing the new clue of the day...can't believe there's not one! I was really hoping for one a day at least.

Glad to see Danskin back... were they elsewhere for a year or two?

Been here in Houston haven't you. We had an August sprint 2-3 year's ago where water temps were in the 90's and the duck stuff was - well thick and fermenting .

The local triathlon club has people that do this all the time and don't seem to have any issues but I have thought the same thing. I remember traveling a while back and a ton of people checking in at the counter with bikes in cardboard boxes. I guess it all depends on the race but at the same time, they could probably even rent out bikes. It is nice to have your own bike, but I don't know if it is 100% necessary. Especially at Disney because the Tri of course would be a lot more fun and not really your elite event. My view is that so many people travel to Disney with Golf Clubs (it was ridiculous when I worked at WDW because our storage area was full because of this) that traveling with a bike wouldn't really be much different. Most tri bikes are very light and just as expensive if not more so! :)
