Does anyone know if this boardwalk restaurant is still open? I have tried to make reservations but I keep getting a message that it doesn't exist...

Yes they do, people who say that assume ADRs at any restaurant on Disney property can only be made through Disney dining. That is wrong - Big River is not a Disney owned restaurant or a one run by a contractor under a license to Disney (like Yak and Yeti, which is owned by Disney but run by Lawreys). Big River an outside franchise that leases property, so it is not part of the Disney dining reservaton system.

But Big River -- as observed by superwendy -- is more than willing to take reservations over the phone when you call them directly. Boardwalk owners like yours truly have known that for years and enjoy using that knowledge to make ressies, which are especially fun to use when the Boardwalk is packed and the walk up wait there is 2+ hours (you walk in past scores of hot, sweaty "there are no ADRS here" standbys who all assume you must be a VIP ). I have done that numeous times; note that in my experience BR doesn't like to take reservations more than 3-4 months in advance.

This is our favorite restaurant at WDW! We go at lunch when the Boardwalk is pretty much deserted and we always sit outside to avoid the brewery smell. It's so relaxing to sit out on the boardwalk and just enjoy the peace and quiet away from the hustle and bustle of the parks! There have always been lots of open tables when we've been there. It's a handy place to eat before heading to Welcome Home Wednesdays too.

I was thinking maybe they changed their name. To "Worst Restaurant at WDW". We've had some terrible experiences there. So bad we won't return.

It's right up there with Rainforest Cafe.

Yea it's still open. I wouldn't recommend it to anybody though because our waiter was rude and the food tasted cheap and cold. And i'm not a picky eater with expensive tastes either so it was just flat out nasty to me. Try going walking down a bit further and visiting the ESPN club. It's my absolute favorite restaurant in all of Disney. You should like it too if you're a nacho, hot wings, sports food person like me.

How do you get a card? Sounds great! Is it free?

We got it while we were there. It was free but I don't know if it was because we have AP's. Go to bigrivergrille.com you can get more info there. We like it. It is not 'fine' dining but we have never had a bad meal. ENJOY!!

Do I have to sign up for the card in person or can I do it before I head down?

Sit outside, get a burger and a beer and it's great. Sit inside and/or order anything else and you're risking a bad meal.

We ate there twice in one trip. First meal, first option above - fantastic. Second meal, second option above - horrid. Server was totally unattentive, my meatloaf was horribly overcooked on one side - had a hard crispy crust and she just shrugged her shoulders. Asked if I wanted fried onions with the meatloaf, NEVER mentioned that it was extra $$, wasn't listed on the menu at all, cost me almost $5 more. I complained - shrugged her shoulders. Just paid the bill to get out of there.

Would go back with option 1, especially if staying at the Boardwalk.

I love this place. It is actually my favorite place to eat at Disney. I will say that I have never eaten inside. I just love sitting outside and people watching on the boardwalk. We eat there atleast twice during every trip.
