Big Kidney Stone + Small 9yo DD ***UPDATE AND A PICTURE***

I hope she feels better soon! I have had two lithotripsies (procedure to zap the stone) in the past 2 1/2 years and both times they didn't work exactly as planned due to a faulty machine! The first time resulted in the fragments blocking my kidney and a short hospital stay...not to scare you, sure that won't happen in your DD's case, but I will definitely be thinking good thoughts for your DD! Kidney stone pain is so incredibly awful!

Thank you all. She is scheduled for this procedure on Wednesday 2/1. I am mostly worried about the anesthesia part. She had surgery when she was 10 months old and she tolerated it well. I'll keep you updated!

Thank you.

:grouphug: I'm sorry your DD had to go through that. I'm glad she's feeling better :goodvibes

What a brave girl! I'm glad her procedure went well, and hope that she'll be feeling 100% very, very soon! :grouphug:

Glad she is on the mend! How she managed to get such a big smile for the camera is great. My DD was in the hospital for 10 days, and whenever I see a kid in the hospital now it just breaks my heart. I am so glad for you that you got to be in the OR with her. They wouldn't let us do it, of course by that point, she was unconsious anyway. It was the worst to kiss her and send her off with all those nurses and the doctor.

You know, I think she deserves a trip to Disney!

What a great update on Dana, Felicia. :thumbsup2 Great to hear. And what a SUPER smile on her there, that says it all. :teeth: :goodvibes Best wishes for a full, quick recovery. And little Ashley sure does look cute too, very cool. :cool1:

Boy am I glad this turned out positively. It's definately not fun for anyone, let alone a 9 year old!

To the poster who thought it was primarily a "male" problem. No, but since we can't give birth it's the most painful thing we can understand. Just like birthing a baby, anytime you've got something 'X" dimension coming out of an opening that is 'X minus 10" it's going to be memorable. :yay:

OMG, poor baby, I have never heard of such a large KS in a child. :worried:

So relieved for you and your DD Dana that everything went well.

Prayers for a speedy recovery ^i^. Dana is adorable with her Ashley dollie. :lovestruc

Awe, I'm so glad your cutie is feeling better. Hugs to Dana and Mom.

Oh, that picture is adorable! She looks so brave. I'm happy to hear that she's doing better. The best of luck to her! :sunny:

My 9yo DD was diagnosed early December with a kidney after having lots of visible blood in her urine. She was told to drink water, drink water, drink water. She felt fine except for the occasional "pain in my side". Tuesday night she said her side hurt and starting vomiting from 9pm until 4am Wednesday. Took her to the hospital for a sonogram and they said the stone had moved and is in her lower E junction? . I spoke with the urologist this morning and they want to laser zap this stone, which is a BIG 7.7mm, to break it up. We are meeting with him on Monday morning and it will be scheduled for next week. I hope she doesn't have pain before then.

ANY prayers and pixie dust for my little one, Dana, will be so appreciated. I will post updates.

***UPDATE***

Dana is home and relaxing! She is a brave girl, much braver than I was. I was able to go into the OR with her and be there for her as she fell asleep. I really don't know why they don't medicated the parent that goes in with them as they get put to sleep!!!lol Afterwards the doctor told us the stone (turned out to be 7.2mm, still big) was blocking her ureter just before the bladder. He showed us a picture of it that was taken with an internal camera and it was very jagged.. he said it probably could have perferated her as it passed. He was able to zap it into tiny pieces and he removed the larger ones. She has a stent inside of her that will be removed on Monday. Dana is a tiny bit uncomfortable at times, but doing well.

Here is a picture of Dana and her doll "Ashley". Ashley has gone everywhere with Dana since birth. The doctors let Ashley stay right next to Dana in the OR - and why not, Ashley was in her hospital get up too! lol

She is a trooper. I got my first kidney the day after a vacation 1 year and i was on the ground in tears...a grown man...lol.

My wife knew something was bad because I never go tot he dr for anything I looked at her and said take me NOW!!! I was on the floor in the emergency room and the dr (female) looked at me and said now you know how your wife felt having your son...lol

So I know what kind of pain she was in...glad everything went well, and tell her to DRINK MORE THAN ENOUGH WATER. Since that day I drink over 100 ounces a day and of course have occasional minor minor pains but nothing like that 1 day while it was passing.

Tell her I am glad all went well and I hope it never happens as serious again.
