BIG hair

How come I'm the only one that shared a picture? :confused3

Temporary Insanity! I would share but also have kids that would never let me live it down. Besides your big hair looks way better than mine ever did! :thumbsup2

Oh, there's nothing "temporary" about my insanity. ;)

I understand completely. However, my daughter would die of embarassment if she ever knew I posted my pic online. She would NEVER do it herself, because she's much more embarassed by it than I am.

I see nothing wrong with your hair. I think it's beautiful. :)

Thank you :goodvibes Sometimes I wish I still had it. But it took me 2 hours every day to do that...hot rollers and a curling iron both...

I graduated in '91...I think my hair wasn't as big then as it was my sophomore year in '89. I have a pic (somewhere) of a friend holding a ruler next to my 5" tall bangs :scared1:. Not only was it big, it was about 3 differnet colors of blond/brown (thank you, Sun-In...remember that awful stuff?).

This is my DD from last year - I remembered how to do it all ( I was in Junior High) and did it for her for Halloween. She wouldn't let me go any bigger. She normally has straight hair as you can see in my sig. She was 1980's pop Star Barbie.

My hair was HUGE! I swear, it needed it's own zip code! :lmao: I have naturally wavy/curly hair, and in the 80's, I wore it long, like to the middle of my back. I used to dry it upside down, then curl it with a curling iron. Then I'd spray it with Aqua Net (or Aqua Nest, as we affectionately called it). I then flipped it upside down again, and then back up. I used to push the sides up as I dried them too, to make sort of a "hump" on the sides of my head.

I wore banana clips too, and had quite the mane going on! :lmao:

My college yearbook (1990) is hilarious! Most girls had HUGE hair, and their heads barely fit in the picture! :rotfl2:

I didn't have big hair, but I did have a very, very long curly perm that I sported for about 4 years. It was great to style, I would wash it, comb it, and spray and mix in Aussie Sprunch Spray- a liquid gel. Then I would toss it up and down and back and forth to separate the curls. Then let it dry like that. so it always looked wet, and when it dried it was crunchy. And really short bangs in front. No pictures, they have all been destroyed.

Did anyone else go through the long permed hair in the back but short, permed and feathered on the sides with the big bangs? Almost like a mullet but much classier!

I was actually socially ostracized because I didn't have big hair. In high school in the 80's, I wore my non-colored mousy brown hair straight, long, and flat. I was made fun of because I didn't have big hair. A couple of acquaintances even told me that they didn't want to be seen with me since I was so not with the current fashion trends.

I remember I didn't understand big hair, I didn't know how you made big hair, and I felt left out of the loop since everyone else knew and I didn't. :confused3 But after awhile I realized I hated most of my classmates and couldn't care less what everyone else was doing (since they weren't going to be my friends anyways) so I proudly wore my boring long flat hair.

Fast fowards 20+ years, and our senior photos are on our alumni website for the world to see. I am the only girl who looks anywhere nears normal!! :teeth: Revenge is sweet!

Oh yeah, and I am from Jersey!

I had big permed hair! My DD recently saw some old 80s pictures of me and went :scared1: The guys had big hair, too and we LOVED it! We were all "poodle heads" back then.

I got my tag from another 'big hair' thread!

I didn't have big hair, either. I wore mine in a long bob. I don't remember being made fun of - more likely I was (silently) making fun of those with the huge hair. I just thought it looked goofy.

Ooh, I also had to carry a big 'ol purse so I could carry full-size bottles of hairspray! Nothing like a touch up during the school day!

I graduated in 1996, so came in on the tail end of the big hair in Jr. High and somewhat beginning of high school. Well, I had the spiral perm with BIG bangs. They weren't nearly as bad as some of my friends though. LOL I kept mine tame by their standards. I was lucky that my mom is a hairdresser so not only did I get free perms, but free hair products. hehe You could grasp ONE strand of hair and lift up my entire bangs after I was done with the hairspray!

In fact, we went on a 7 day cruise in May 1992...I used an entire large can of Sebastian hairspray. My mom was FURIOUS! We were supposed to be sharing but I used most of it myself. She was NOT impressed, but come on! I HAD to have good hair. There were cute older boys on the ship! What? I won't ever see any of them again after this? So what??? I'm sure the people in neighboring cabins that afternoon were annoyed with our fight but this was important! Good hair was hard to maintain on a windy cruise ship. HAHAHAHA Oh, and let's not forget the mousse I had to put in my wet hair to maintain the wet cruncy curly look with the added protection of super hold hairspray on top of it. Yeah, it was essential!

I graduated in 1990, and I had big hair and the curly perm. Double whammy! My hair is short and straight now.

However, I don't like to consider myself a fashion don't. I think it was timeless. :rotfl::rotfl: After all, my Senior picture and my Mom's senior picture in 1962 isn't too different.

Of course, it could just mean that both my Mom and I had terrible hairstyles. :) :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Do any of you remember the butane curling irons that you could carry in your purse? My "bff" had one, and we would actually plan to sign out to the bathroom at a certain time to touch up our hair and re-spray it.

My husband swears that the hole in the ozone/global warming was caused by all the hairspray used in the 80's/early 90's. I think he could be right. :rotfl:

I just looked in my travel stuff and I STILL HAVE IT!

Yep, I had one of those! :rotfl:

My favorite "big hair" from a movie:
