Big Gripe in Parks and Elsewhere--People Walking Backwards!

Well I've never had problems with the "backward walkers" but I can't stand the people who take a step off the escalator and then stop. Hello? It's not like we're on steps and can stop while we wait for you decide where to go.

I used to work at a world famous store in downtown Boston. People would come down the escalator and stop to stare, take pics and get their bearings. On busy days an employee would stand at the escalator and have to ask people to move so the people still on the escalator wouldn't fall and could get off.

I haven't run into people walking backwards but the escalators are a pet peeve of mine :(

Though the rules are not "official", there ARE RULES for foot traffic like car traffic.

I can't stand being behind those who shuffle. I understand not all people are able to walk quicky, but PLEASE, if you can't keep up with the flow of traffic, walk along to the side, not the middle. There are invisible "lanes" when you walk, you have to PICK a lane and STAY with it! And please none of that weaving back and forth, that drives me nuts too!

When I was in France last year I got really irritated with a bus tour group at Versailles. They would go into each room, have one person stand in front of a painting or other item of interest, take a picture, and then switch to take a picture of the other. And they were posing like supermodels, I don't even think they were looking at the art. I tried to be polite and stay out of their picture, but it got to the point where I couldn't see or enjoy anything because one of them was always "vogue-ing" in front of it. So I just started looking at what I wanted to without regard to what they were taking pictures of. Then Mom and I bolted through a couple of rooms to get way ahead of them.

In one of our old neighborhoods, there was an older Asian gentleman that took himself on a backwards walk every morning.

Every day, without fail, I'd leave for work and see him, merrily walking backward down the sidewalk. I guess there must have been some fitness benefit (balance, training different muscle groups?) but I worried about him!

I guess my biggest gripe about Backwards Walkers (aside from being knocked over!) is that they always acted annoyed like it was your fault when they run into you! Honestly, I watch where I'm going, but I can't be expected to watch where everyone else is going. And even if I do watch where someone else is going, sometimes I can't get out of their way, like my OP, the "lady" who was practically dancing a jig backwards and try as I might I couldn't get out of her path. Finally she ran into a wall, then saw me and decided it was somehow all my fault and proceeded to cuss me out!
