Big Dog Owners

Solja2009.jpg

This is my son's dog Solja, who is about 110 lbs. and is very good natured. One of his favorite playmates is a miniature schnauzer. They are hilarious together!

JessicaR - LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your dog pictures. What a sweetie. I haven't had time to read the whole thread or see any other pictures that are posted here but will when I get a chance. I haven't had a dog under 100 lbs. yet so I too like big dogs. My last one passed away recently and we haven't gotten a new one yet. The pain is still too fresh. But I so enjoy seeing everyone else's pictures. And I just love it when people let me pet those fur babies.

Sort of related...partially hijacking...

I am so irritated tonight... my DH and dog were walking. Riley is a 75 pound dog, part white shepard, part yellow lab. Sweetest dog ever...at least equal to the dogs you all are talking about, except a little smaller:lmao:. He is 12, and we've had him for 4 years. My dog is well socialized, goes to daycare weekly etc.

We are walking past the house that we refer to as the "yipper" house. 4 terriers at this house, 1 electric fence. The electric fence is the dogsitter at this house. We hate walking past this house, it is on a corner. The dogs yip the whole time you are going past their house. So - tonight...the electric fence is not on, and doggie parents are not outside. So - two of the dogs come out onto the street and start growling and snarling at my dog. I saw my dog bare his teeth for the first time ever.

DH gets between the 2 dogs and our dog, I quietly walk away with my dog. About a minute later, DH realizes that the dogs have once again left their yard, and the dogs are following us. DH kind of stops, and I continue to walk around the next corner with Riley. Out of site out of mind...they dogs went home.

SORRY - I HATE ELECTRIC FENCES. And these dogs are why.

OK - I feel better now. Hopefully - the fence will get turned back on before tomorrow.

I grew up with Akitas. They always get a bad rap. I tell people with any big dog breed. Socialize socialize socialize and regardless of breed you will have an awesome dog. Several of our Akitas that I raised were big fluffy babies that were fully of love. Well just so long as you know did not attack me or other family members. Hey a dog has a right to protect his family right? 99% of the time they were big fluffy babies. Everyone thought they were fuzzy demons. I keep small dogs now. I have a Japanese Chin mix now. I used to have an Italian Greyhound before.

I have seen many bad evil small dogs do more damage than the big dogs could ever dream of doing. People don't think to socialize their tiny dogs properly.

I love big dogs. OP your's is beautiful. I am anti-drool dog though.
