Big Deal To Change Reservation?

as many times as we've been to WDW, you'd think i'd know this, but i'm just not sure, so i thought i'd ask -

we're planning to take my cousin to WDW with us may 29-june 2. he'll be 21, and he's never been to WDW, so he's super excited. however, he's still in college, and is going to be taking a summer class that month - physics, so he may not be able to go. if he finds out, once class starts at the beginning of may, that it won't be possible for him to miss those days of class, would it be a hassle to drop him from our reservation? would there be a penalty, or would i get a refund?

If you book a package, you would ahve to pay a fee to drop him ($50 I think). Can't you just wait until you're sure he can come and add him? I don't thin there's a fee if you increase the cost of your package.

You can make changes to a package without any penalty as long as you are more than 45 days prior to arrival. Of course, that won't help if your cousin doesn't find out when his classes will begin until May.

If you are inside the 45-day mark, then you will pay a $50 package change fee. Disney usually waives the change fee if you are going to a more expensive package. So, you could do this one of two ways.

1. Do what Straitlover suggested and add him to your package after he knows he will be okay for those dates. Or...
2. Leave your package alone. Inform them at check in that you are adding another adult to the reservation and pay any additional costs. This would only work if you do not need DME for him , you are not exceeding room occupancy limits and you're not on any dining plans.

Don't forget that you will pay an extra nightly fee for anything more than 2 adults in a room. The fee varies, depending on the level of the resort.

thank you! i haven't made the reservation yet, because i wasn't sure of the best way to do it, but it looks like i should go ahead and book without him, then add him after he talks to his professor. or gets his syllabus. whichever comes first.
