Big changes on the way @ 'Ohana

We ate @ 'Ohana's Thursday night and noticed they are no longer serving the stir-fried green beans. It's been replaced with a snap peas/carrots/onions type stir fry.

Our waitress told us that the "big wigs" recently came in and decided the green beans didn't fit with the theming of the restaurant. Stinkin' big wigs stay out of my favorite restaurants!

She also informed us that the fried rice and shrimp wonton will also be replaced soon! :scared1: . At that moment, I started shoving wontons in my pockets ;) . The fried rice will be replaced with, get this...scalloped potatoes! How does that fit with the restaurant's theming?

The meats will generally stay the same, but better quality according to our server. But....the shrimp will no longer be grilled. They are going to saute it in the back kitchen.

Alright. These big wigs are really ticking me off now.

Has anyone else heard of these changes? Is anyone else as disappointed?

I love the green beans.

Yick to onions - I hope everyone brushes their teeth before heading back to the Park :teeth:

Shrimp anyway is great.

potatoes - ok - I can live with them :)

as long as the wings stay the same...but scalloped potatoes???what's next ???boston baked beans?????philly cheesesteak sanswiches?????

What??????? Not the rice.... It's my favorite... If they take the rice away then I will have to say it will not be on my "must do" list anymore.

I knew there was a reason I visited this board every day!

That is just plain yucky! Will not be making a reservation for our next trip if this doesn't change back before we go.

Wonder who we should let know that the menu change is losing my business? Any ideas?

Hi Melanie! Yes, the rice ---> potatoes change was discussed here: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=881778 . But I have not heard about the change in the shrimp preparation. :(
We have never eaten at Ohana's and I have an ADR for our Sept/Oct trip. But we may end up eating at Boma's instead. :(

Ohana is my favorite restaurant for dinner! Been there many times with many special memories.

I've read about the rice and green beans, but losing the wontons would just be the last straw! I truly hope that waitress had incorrect information about that!

The loss of rice and sub of scallopped potatoes is foolish and does not go with the theming one little tiny bit. I think they should go back to lo mein. That upsets me at a 3 on a scale from 1-10.

The loss of green beans which I *loved* and sub of stir fry at least goes with the theme, though I would prefer the green beans to be kept. That upsets me on a 3/10 as well.

If they take away the wontons, as far as I am concerned, they have killed the entire 'Ohana experience! My 'Ohana meal consists of pina coladas, grilled shrimp, wings, green beans and wontons. Without the last 2, it's just not 'Ohana anymore. I am defintely past a 7/10 here!

I will be dining at Ohana on Sept 4th- Hope it is delicious and as fun as always- Haven't been there in a couple of years.

I wonder when the change will be implemented. I've never been to Ohana's and my ADR is Aug 28th.

I'm wondering if the changes will occur prior to the free dining or not.

Bummer, what are they thinking. Onions mixed in the veggies will not make DD happy. Rice seems more fitting than potatoes!!! NO MORE WONTONS??? What are they replacing them with?

I think we may be changing our ADR to NOT Ohana. :guilty:

I despise scalloped potatoes. YUCK! I just don't think these changes are for the better! I like green beans, I do not like onions. The more I htink about it the more I think I need to scoot over to Allears and find a new place for dinner. GRR! I love how they make these changes 66 days before our trip so the other good ADR's will all be TAKEN. Hmph!

At least you have 66 days. I have only about 14. There's going to be nothing left.

CindyB-
I would HOPE since the changes are so new that you could still request rice with your meal. The sum of all of the changes was enough to make me call and change to Kona Cafe. I hope we like it there! I was a little undecided on Ohana, and with the new ADR time we will probably make it out in time to see Wishes which we wouldn't have at Ohana. So it probably worked out better for me to switch.

Good luck to you!

oh no thanks for posting this. I hate it when Disney messses up perfection....first the Garden Grill and now 'Ohana's and to think I am planning on eating there twice during my trip. I will be so sad if the wontons are gone when I eat there. I wonder if they will get a lot of complaints?

We're eating here this Saturday to start off our trip!!!

I really hope the wontons are still there.

I'll be making ADR's next week and I was going to go to Ohana on our first night. I'm definitely rethinking that. The fried rice and green beans were big draws for me. I can't eat shrimp as I'm allergic so I won't miss the wontons or grilled shrimp. I'm thinking we need to try Kona or go somewhere else. I can make scalloped potatoes at home. And that's not very polynesian. From what I've read, it's very popular as is. Why mess with it?

Hopefully they will at least hold onto the wontons until November 7th at 9pm. I just made my ADRs this morning. We will still go and give it a try with all the changes, but the wontons were my favorite :guilty:

I love the green beans too! Lets keep an open mind folks! It might be just as good. The cheese potatoes seem like a strange fit but I'll eat them. If they keep those great frozen drinks coming I may not even notice the changes. :p

I don't get the scalloped potatoes at all. I've never heard of Polynesian style scalloped potatoes. :confused3

I'll miss the green beans IMMENSELY. I loved those. DH & DS will not like the loss of wontons either......

I wonder what they are thinking? :confused3

So, I haven't seen anyone suggest an e-mail campaign. Should we let WDW know how dear to our hearts our Ohana is? I mean, O'hana does mean family, and they need to know that these changes aren't welcome in the family.

Seriously, this is one of our alltime favorites---the stuff we dream about when we are at home in Dallas! Sad, but true!~
